The Pain of Love

I've known the pain
I've felt the pain
I knew it's intimacies
I've stood right next to it
I knew the years, I've felt the tears
that I thought would ruin it
that led my trail to it
I've known the days
I've felt the ways
it creeps, it began to walk with me
it walks along right behind me
I've known it's there
I've felt it right there
just trailing in my shadow
it's tried to trap me
all my life
from the loss of my dad
from the loss of my granddad
and so many others
I never got to do
what my heart took for granted
Damn it, always trying to find myself
in another's heart
trying to find love, true love
but I got weighed down with
love that was never returned
none of them loved me
but I loved them
each and every one
snatched, grabbed and took off
with another piece of me
those that lied
those that cried
those that ran
there wasn't a real man
with a real heart
in the whole bunch
I'm done with that stupid punch
that makes you think your in love
I'm done with all of it and then some
now it's only a FWB
and that's what love has done to me

Sorrow

Sorrow for the brief few days when I held her close
Sorrow for the moments in her world when I never even knew her
or where she was, who she was or her first name
I was supposed to feel shame
in those first few days, but that's not what I felt
I held her every moment of every day since her birth
to just a few days later
then simply years of tears, wondering and wanting
over my growing child, so far away
I thought she would be wild, I thought
so many stupid stories I bought
from those around me
almost nineteen years later
a beautiful, burning star of an angel landed in my life
then I knew I had to survive, for her, her brother and sisters
now it's just sorrow for the days when I didn't measure up
sorrow for the things we forgot to share
even more sorrow for the slices of our hearts
thrown up into the air, like we weren't supposed to care
Oh but I did and I have every day since
simply because she was my long lost daughter

Stop the Lie

It was easier to face
when I didn't have the proof in my place
I found all those needles
stuck in the wrong space
all those needles, once in your skin
taking you back from me once again
ripping you right out of my heart
where did it all at first start?
Baby, baby, baby girl
don't you know your life's in a tornado
come on baby, give it one more try
every time, you've got to step back
turn around and look in the mirror
do you see what you want
is she who you want to be
Downtrodden and living on the streets
making the days by the skin of your teeth
you've got to get out and get clean
clean yourself up and stop being mean
I know and so do you and all of us do too
we all know you're meant to live a better life
come on baby, give it one more try
it's time to stop all the denying
it's time to start to live a true life
grow up and truly get well
things won't always be like this
but you know that you can do it
stop the lying, start trying
come on baby give it one more try
and stop the lie
stop the drugs
stop it all and give me a call
give someone a call
call them all
it's past time to stop the lie!

Innocent Love

The softness of pure goose down
the sweet smell of innocense
the heat of w warm, embracing campfire
the heart beat of but a tiny bird
depedant totally on your own soul
to nourish, to teach and help to explore
define the world and so much more
a child in your arms, a brand new life
means your holding your own
heart, body, soul, spirit and adoration
and that tiny little angel within your embrace
must, should and always will be protected
by you, yours, them, theirs
and the angels and the strangers
loving a newborn baby, toddler, preteen, teen, young adult
grown into adulthood
is the true definition of undying love

Walking In the Valley of the Dead

I've walked in the valley of the shadow of death
I've known the fever of the last strongest breath
I've felt the dirtiest dust rise up between my toes
I've smelled it's rancid stench deep within my nose
I've felt the rotten reaper riding on my sagging shoulder
He felt so very heavy, like an over-sized boulder
I've met the sickness that was buried deep within my head
I've heard the voices of the walking, waking and wailing dead
Yeah, I've walked in the vision of the valley of my death
But I no longer have to trudge among those living on their last breath
I took my walk through the stinking valley
At the end of my walk, I'm still alive
And every single day since
I continue to survive!

Despair

In a quiet moment of solitude
I fear my life may be slipping away
I watch as it ebbs on the wind
Leaving this empty shell behind

Does Anybody Give a Damn

Is there anybody out there
is there anyone who gives a damn
about the one sitting next to them
do you, does she, does he
give a damn
is there so much pain
and degradation in this world
that so many have simply
stopped giving a damn
about those they care about
do you, does she, does he
do any of them
realize that the world is
on the way to one fantastic ending
in a big huge bang
from the sky or from the ground
goodbye cruel world
goodbye to the cruelties of this world
that we call Mother Earth

Ghosts In the Darkness

So scared, sweet child sleeping
nightmares in the dark
dreaming of a world
far outside my own
do the images still haunt you
as I can only imagine
of your once lost soul
on the streets of the insane
seeking out the shelter
I tried so hard to give
a battle for you, just to live
to come home to our hearts
where you still see the ghosts
deep within your dreams

Veteran's Day

Today is a very special day
a day we all hold dear
for the men and women who fought
in many wars, far and near
it's due to those soldiers
that we can live free
those bravest souls
that rid us of Hussein and Quaddafi
we are free because of sacrifice
that soldiers give every way
so remember our warriors
on this special and solemn day

Imaginings

I see you in my thoughts and dreams
all my intimate imaginings
of our bodies intertwined
your very soul invading mine
I feel your hands upon my skin
the sweat between us is so thin
I try to shake these dreams away
but you enchant my mind each day
a tempting tryst comes to my dreams
all my private intimate imaginings
of our bodies wrapped around each other
imagining you as my lover
