Charles Sides Poem
“Coming of age” happens twice in life
It not always at the same time
The physical change nature will bring
But, the other is in your mind
Sometimes an adult can be a child
And a child can be an adult
The physical change is still the same
The mental, an unknown result
It seems you mentally “come of age”
As responsibilities grow
Being responsible for others
Suddenly your adultness shows
Although you reach the “coming of age”
You still want to stay young at heart
That’s a condition you should maintain
So keep thinking young from the start

Charles Sides Poem
These two guys were out on a bird hunt
Suddenly they came upon a pit
Looks deep said one; I’ll throw some rocks in
And see how long it takes them to hit
Never heard the rocks hit the bottom
OK, I have an idea, said one
I saw an old transmission back there
We’ll hear it hit; it must weigh a ton
They worked hard dragging that transmission
Then they pushed it down into the pit
They listened intently for a noise
So anxious to finally hear it hit
Suddenly from the brush behind them
A Goat emerged, running to beat sh..
One hundred mile per hour bee-line
Ran right between them into the pit
They looked at each other “dumb founded”
When a farmer drove up in his truck
“Have you guys seen my goat around here?”
One hunter said; “You’ve had some bad luck”
“A goat just ran straight into this pit
He looked like he was on a mission”
“Well, that sure couldn’t have been my goat
My goat was chained to a transmission”

Charles Sides Poem
First you learn to crawl around
Then give a step a chance
Bit by bit you learn to talk
And not to wet your pants
When it’s time to go to school
Get on the bus and go
It’s scary to be on your own
With kids that you don’t know
Then you enter puberty
And share that first time kiss
A few bouts of puppy love
Then a love you can’t resist
Wedding bells, a honeymoon
A family would be swell
Diapers, bibs, a rocking chair
Night time stories you will tell
Start planning for retirement
You’ve got grandkids all around
Wrinkles come from nowhere
You know you’re slowing down
Now you reached the golden years
It’s time to just have fun
Take a nap, do what you want
Your race on earth is done

Charles Sides Poem
Charlie Chaplin’s his name
“Slap stick” brought him fame
Chuckled when I watch his flick
But never saw him “slap a stick”

Charles Sides Poem
He was egotistical
Like Napoleon
No longer a thorn for me
On the day he said:
“It’s my way or the highway”
This new job has set me free

Charles Sides Poem
Dad never shunned something new
He felt he could learn “HOW TO”
Dad could do it all!
Amazed me, what he could do
And all the stuff that he knew
New things were a ball!
As time went on, and I grew
Like Dad, I liked new things too
They would just enthrall!
Engineering was my call
Lots of new stuff to install
Was I up to it?
I made it without a fall
Some classes I did appall
But I’d never quit!
Retired after the long haul
But never am I banal
Life’s good I admit!
Writing poetry’s a hit
I made golf clubs quite a bit
Play golf till I’m tan!
Fix guitars that are unfit
Then publish “How to do it”
Start a Bluegrass Band!
Building models from a kit
Don’t watch TV and just sit
New passions are grand!
This poem is a Virelai, not shown in the poetry form list

Charles Sides Poem
Life is so precious when you’ve got health
Good health is much more precious than wealth
Be willing to explore what you can
Discoveries help to make life grand
New opportunities come your way
Jump-in quick as they may go away
Let the world know you want to join in
Put your hand out and make a new friend
Live life boldly, learn new things firsthand
Take off your shoes and walk in the sand
Don’t be timid because something’s new
Adventure’s door is open to you
There’s new things to learn, around the clock
Open the door when you hear a knock
You only get this one chance to live
Experience what life’s got to give

Charles Sides Poem
Hear me out on this and don’t make a fuss
I like porno flicks full of sex and lust?
Please keep this a secret just between us
One’s showing today I’ve heard is top crust
Who told you that seeing it is a must?
I sure hope it is someone that you can trust
No one knows sex movies better than Gus
OK, ask Fred to go and drive his bus
And you should pay his way, that’s only just
He’s just such a fink, do you get my thrust?
Pay for Fred is something we’ll not discuss
Just forget it; the whole idea’s a bust

Charles Sides Poem
My oldest daughter, I named Colleen
She entered puberty at thirteen
The birds and bee's explained
Left me completely drained
Dad, I already know the sex scene

Charles Sides Poem
I had a boss who thought he was it
He was an Egotistical Twit
When he passed away
On funeral day
Only two people showed and that’s it
