Remembrance

once in a little while from cloud-darkened brows burst the sunshine of your smile, warming my bones, rain-drenched as they are. spear my heart with slivers of your smile. charge me with the electrifying frankness of your eyes, and i will go down to the ends of the earth for you. when all else is gone into numbing, hollow sadness such as wrought by distance, indifference, or forgetting, only the trace of your smile remains, bringing warmth and light like a radiant morning, greeting a still-sleeping world and a bright new day.

Communion

let me be
as sweet wine
that pours into
your cup
and fills it to the brim
with love.

Psycho-Seuss

flux is
stasis is not.
where flux is the only stasis,
then even flux is not.
something tells me
(i don't know what)
that i am speaking through my hat.

First Blood

sun gently breaks hymen
of inviolable night,
flooding silken sheets
of sky
with bleeding red.

december morning's ample bosom
spills forth crisp coolness,
bracing me
with a discovery so new.
my fingers run
like wind through leaves
as i marvel at the wonder of you.

Evolution-Revolution

sun,
the cycle is complete.
the eager, creative young man is gone.
say hello to the conformist
whose victory is the other one's defeat.

sun,
his mind is gone.
cubed by the hemming concrete walls,
boxed by air-conditioned cubby-holes
he does not know why he runs.

sun,
does this happen to everyone?

Cyclops

to a moon long hidden by treetops

it is not that i
could no longer see the forest
for the trees.
nor you
for the canopy.
you are always there
i know,
where other clouds
can touch your cheek.

soon when i am out of the woods
i will say hello
and you will wink
one eye at me.

To a Friend, Upon Discovering His Own Moon

pick flowers
drink while nectar flows.
sap is bitter
when stem hardens into wood.

the bumblebee sees not the world
with the petals that surround.

the hive hums with discordant sounds
and empty clamorings.

tomorrow's season is fall.

100 Poems

one hundred poems
later,

not one preserved.

some words
are written for
one
heart only.

a year of pain and longing.

Healing

the clouds broke today.
not even the memory
of your puppy-warm eyes
can bring on the rain.

in this mall floating
amidst the nameless faces
i am whole.
i can smell.
i can taste.
i can feel.
i can love.
again.

feet
defying gravity,
denying despair
the solace of my bed,
putting left before right
and right before left,
then repeating.
past bazaars
and pet shops with their
puppy-dog eyes,
past the passing people
with eyeless faces
i float to the door.

outside the skies are dark,
rain hinting wetness
with it ozone threat,
and the sun scampered away.

but inside me
the clouds broke today.

Ballistic

what breach of faith
has time wrought?
like cannonballs
through ramparts and walls
each day bores on,
unflinchingly through page after page
of sickening drivel.

the sun contentedly wallowing
in its yellow sty turns over
without a snort.

at day's end it seeks other fields
to root and hog.
