Celtic Knots

Show me what you've woven
And show the children too
From ancient time
In weave design
Eight knots are born of you

The Book of Kells
And Lindisfame
In threads of time divine
Beginnings of
These words to you
That you might see them shine

But own you do
The deepest threads
These Celtic knots run true
And reading them
Like any book
Transparent pages grew

Your history
Through ages vast
Now proudly to display
One knot in time
Connect us too
Forever, through the day

And Soldier No More

Fold the flag
Triangular show
Country contain me
And soldier no more

Place in a box
In three corners neat
Over the mantle
In silent entreat

How many knew him
How many cared
Was madness that slew him
And madness that dared

Where will it end
And where will it go
A lifetime has ended
And soldier no more

Spirit inside it
And never unfold
Defender behind us
A story untold

Is life better now
That we have made death
Did justice prevail
Or did it digress

The story should tell
A sacrifice made
But history dictates
And debts go unpaid

What Is the Reason

What is the point
When dark is dark
And light is day

What is the reason
To sit down to write
With little to say

When you were here
Thoughts had all hope
With little to pay

All that was good
Had left me and should
A middle tone gray

But black is black
And now I can see
I'm headed that way

Lonely Shadow Cast

Flashing neon signs
Dark pavement left behind
But more to go
I know, I know
I've darkness on the mind

Absorbed in mind's cafe
I take a seat to say,
“This can't be mine
This dream I find
Is taken course dismay”

Now gather in good cheer
Partake in lifeless beer
Glasses empty
Patrons gone
Myself I've come to fear

But how this came to pass
I cannot say at last
I turn to go
But now I know
I can't reshape my past

Walk on in dream I do
But lifeless forms ensue
A mother gone
A father too
But empty streets pursue

I've taken now the task
To live this dream at last
Without my wish
Or to my hope
A lonely shadow cast

A Lucky Few

Remember me
When I was young
As I remember you
The cost of time
Is much too dear
And hard to know it true

A wind of years
Has passed us by
A fall of age is here
But I cannot forget you so
And winters cold is near

Your memory of stolid time
It does proceed you so
I've but to take one
From the mind
And spring begins to grow

I can't begin to say again
How I remember you
But seasons pass
And we at last
Among a lucky few

Road Soda

My Hooch
Wounded soldier
Couldn't be wiser
Couldn't be bolder

Road soda
Training wheels older
My sixer
This isn't over

Forget the tipple
Make it a triple
Gimmie the moonshine
Just make it all mine

This is the juice
This is forever
This one's for you
Make you feel better

Is this all booze?
Give me the rest
Too tired now
To give it my best

Giggle-water got me
Went to my head
Open my hand now
I might be dead

Forty Percent

Giving out
To drink it in
Like air to breathe
And inhale sin

All other sorts
Of spirits soar
Look through the glass
A life which bore
A hole in me
Now mend a patch
And stop the cycle
In its path

One day prevent
A further pain
And take the needle
From my vein
Or drink to death
And won't be far
In trip I take
From bar to bar

Fair As the Sun

Flying too high
To bright yellow such
Feeling as if
One nearly could touch
The bright yellow gold
Is almost in hand
But burn that it may
And fall hard to land

Like Icarus tried
He also did reach
But greed and despair
Though father beseech,
"I warn you my son
you fly much too near
take wing and escape
in seduction my fear."

But others would fall
As Icarus died
Descended in flight
Have been gold denied

What moral at hand
In sonnet to preach
Remember the day
Daedalus tried to reach
But many won't listen
Or pay due concern
Then reach for what glisten
Much too late to learn

Nirvana

Contemplation
Realization
All cessation
In frustration
Be reward
Of mortication
Be my goal
And my salvation

Could this life
Ascetically
Help me reach
Nirvana free
Or must I pay
Some lifelong fee
To get to where
I'm knowing me

Must I starve
A path to where
All I envy
Gone and bare
Cast solution
Never mattered
Let the calf
Be born and fatted

Grain of rice
To quell the fire
Douse the flame
Of my desire
To the past
With my en-vy
My earthly grasp
In place of me

Can we transcend
Imperfect places
Born again
Of endless faces
Can I stop
This circle motion
Nay return
The cycle broken

The Time We Missed

Off you go
To work today
To do the work
Of three
And pay
Is less then what
You made before
Complain and find
You're shown the door

Conform you're told
And meetings too
Remarks that tear
A troubled you
Then take a seat
Begin the day
But concentrate
It's hard to say

Will you perform
Live up to who
The ones who watch
And turn you to
A slave who chained
Cannot set free
The person you
Have yet to be

But money wars
Will make you stay
A zombie who
Collects their pay
And turn to find
The gap in you
The missing time
That must accrue

Was this a life
You never knew
Without the time
To think it through
