Amanda Keith Poem
Strangers
Do you think of me from time to time?
Do I ever cross your mind?
I try so hard not to think of you,
I didn’t think I would, but I do.
I don’t know what you want from us.
It hard for me to cope with all this fuss.
How can we go from family to nothing?
When there’s so many good time s worth remembering.
Tell me what can be done
To lift this weight that feels like a ton.
I want a relationship with you.
Shouldn’t just that make you want one too?
I’ve tried my best to make things right,
Now it’s up to you to end this fight.
Strangers can become family once more
But you need to be the one to open that door.

Amanda Keith Poem
My Sister’s Lies
She said that someday we would get along.
Our childhood fights would seem petty and wrong.
Now we don’t speak and she doesn’t even care.
Is this a burden for both of us to bear?
She said that she would stick by me.
I was more important to her than any friend could be.
Now we don’t speak and she doesn’t even care.
Is this a burden for both of us to bear?
She said that she should protect me,
As the older sister, she felt it was her duty.
Now we don’t speak and she doesn’t even care.
Is this a burden for both of us to bear?
She said that growing up wouldn’t mean growing apart.
That instead we would grow closer in heart.
Now we don’t speak and she doesn’t even care.
Is this a burden for both of us to bear?
She said she would never make me cry.
She never said family could be replaced by some “guy.”
Now we don’t speak and she doesn’t even care.
Is this a burden for both of us to bear?

Amanda Keith Poem
Pain
I wish I didn’t feel so alone.
Dealing with these thoughts can be hard on my own.
People seem to think I’m happy- nothing’s wrong.
But, what would they think if they knew my sad song?
My problems seem so small.
I feel so guilty to admit them at all.
Each day I feel sad, numb, on the verge of tears.
Admitting this is one of my biggest fears.
So instead I fake feeling “fine,”
Focusing on others’ problems instead of mine.
But nothing gets better, I feel just as bad.
Depressed, lonely, empty, and most of all- sad.
