Mama's Battle Cry

He slapped her soft brown face:
With bitter words, no embrace
The house became just a place.

Thirteen down the line,
A catholic family out of time
At night behind bedroom doors---cryin'.

"United we stand," Mama cried.
A hard smack from the back of his hand.
"United we stand," Mama cried.

We kicked him out, out.
Little sister does not pout
And the boys can go out.
Mama can sing and dance about.

"United we stand," Mama cries.
But scars stain and memory never dies.
Years and it's still in their eyes.
"United we stand," Mama cries.
And I hope we will before she dies.

Hope

They yellowed early
This year and I fear
Her white fleece will bury
Thoughts far and near.

I don't know
If I can find a cure
What can stop a north-wind blow
Or thought I cannot hear?

I do expect majestic green
Sometime in the Spring
But what will be done
Makes me want to run

Far, far away
Under a different sun
Where I can say
All isn't always gray.

Time and Again

When she wept
The rain came;

When she sang
The wind came;

When she died
The snow came

Time and time
             Again.

Circle of Life

Circle of Life

I see them running around
In their little circles
Blank pale-white faces
Hopelessly searching for places
Again and again
With no traces
Just a circle
Waiting for a miracle.
