Battle Scars

How do you
Put in words
The poison that
Spills inside
Filling your heart
Untill it bursts.
No more tears
Left to cry
Fighting a war
you can not win
in a nightmare
That will never die.

Empty eyes have
No reflection
Not much left
Before I break.
Falling fast with
No protection.
Consuming all
That you are
Growing deeper
Within
Alone...you bare
The battle scar.

Bitter Sweet

How can one capture
Life's bitter sweet laughter
Wrap tightly in a box
No keys no locks.

From safe to sound
To no evil bound
For those chains don't exist
Misery left standing pissed.

This is my dream
Where I never scream.
If only it were real
But I awake a haunting chill.

Bitter sweet reality
Slams right through me.
With open arms misery waits
For my soul she takes.
                                               Shanna Cochran
                                                         10/10

Unspoken

Silence holds us torn and broken
To fear the secrets left unspoken.
Captured inside within my dreams
Holding hostage my violent screams.
Piercing through my heart I feel
Stone cold hands made of steel.
For you I save my last breath
A narrow escape rescued by death.

Inside the Grey

Inside my mind I stay
Stuck inside the grey
Every night I pray
God, please take me away.

Help me find my rainbow
Hiding outside the window
Where every color will glow
And I can watch you grow.

All the time I waisted
Time that I violated
Time I should've protected
A lifetime left to regret it.

Sweet and Tender

That early summer’s day
I never took the time to stop
To look at your smile, or
Listen as you play.
Never did I think to count
Every bath bubble you’d pop.
I should have memorized
Every inch of your face.
I should have collected echoes
Of your laughter in my heart.
I should have held on
To every hug and embrace.
But I struggle to keep them far apart.
My days are kept trying to remember
The way your hair would shine in the sun.
Your hugs and kisses, so sweet and tender.
Striving to recall how each day had begun.
Sounds of your laughter in my heart.
Your eyes shining a brilliant blue.
The words “I love you Mommy!”
With hugs that never part.
These days are the hardest to get through.

Footsteps To Faith

To walk the footsteps in life's betrayal
Lingers an aroma familiar and stale.
Death grips into every heartbeat
To deny sinners of their grim defeat.
In the reflection that you deny
Born is a soul not meant to die?
Open your eyes to what is true
Behold this shadow that once was you.
Cast away our stolen fears
Hidden deep within flowing tears.
A daily reminder to all who stand
Kneel down to Faith and take her hand.

My Torment

In the dark runninig endless
My fears take over me
Pushing me down
Deep inside holding me.

Trapped so tightly
I feel it rip
There's no escape
From it's grip.

It rips away my heart
With every single day
Into a million pieces
That won't go away.

Feeding on my soul
Every second every moment
With every single breath
This is my reality - my torment.

One More Day

To see your smiling face.
To feel your sweet embrace.
To hear your laughing voice.
To hold you and rejoice.

To kiss your sweet little nose.
To tickle your cute little toes.
To share your whispered secrets.
To embrace and safely keep it.

To have you in my arms again.
To have forever never end.
To have you one more day.
To have JUST one more day.

Signs That Follow

Close your eyes and clear your mind
The road you search for you will find.
Trust your heart to lead the way
Folow the signs and you will not stray.

Detours come and go, but never to a dead end.
There's no wrong turn for a new road to begin.
Trust in the ones that have made it through
And follow their signs layed out before you.

Long and weary is the path ahead
This dark pain- filled life you must shed.
Only taking with you a soul to be born again
Now you have shown others how to begin.
