You Should Be Afraid of Virginia Woolf...

The most imperfectly
Compatible almost-couple…
Framed in unwanted proximity
Coated in fool’s gold
In worst case, we’ll hold onto each other forever
You’re always just a drink away
Along with every Honey that ever came by
You’ll end up on the bathroom floor
Crush the ice between your teeth
And smile as it melts in your mouth
Don’t provoke me
I’ll get you back, just you wait
Let’s invent a new game
‘Cause this is as good as it gets
Baby, this is our fun
Someday you’ll sober up
But for now:
We’re Martha and George
And I just killed our son.

A Night On the Town

We drive and we sit and we think-talk
And talk-think
The wind blows words out of our mouths before we can
And through our satanic smoke rings
We see:
A small section of the Athenian catastrophe.
Unfolding with the falsely spreading lights…
Our microcosm
(Our safe-house)

You roll the windows up
And the top down
And we cloud gaze..
Out cocoon of heat is a shelter
From everything we are,
And everything we are scared to be...

Only a short while now.

Our cigarettes will run out,
And we will too
Disperse
Back home?
Eyelash wishes won’t save anything now…
You’ll never understand
Naïve little boy.

Sunburn

Deliciously deceiving smile
Emits a spectrum of light emotion.
You are worshipped and feared by all
Dictator through and of all seasons
But you can take your toll at times, you overdo it.
And prepare us for the battle
Of hopelessly empty days.
We think we can absorb you,
Be you for a moment, and perhaps
Even keep you for a while?

Below our bronze-plated armor
Our skin blisters and burns with the
Anticipation of tomorrow
Through listless dance
We indulge in your temptation, we give in.
Some things just aren’t forever...
And I can’t believe in you anymore
You’ll be gone before we know it

Nine months later is your rebirth
And another time to shine
With your arrival comes relief,
And with your passing, regrets.

Conversations With My 16-Year-Old Self

After so much suppression
I think that its time
To indulge in the lighthearted
Comfort in rhyme

Outside the sun shines
On the green grass I sleep
The birds sing so happily
And I start to weep

But my tears spell relief
Not sadness or pain
For when you’re finally gone
I’ll sleep in peace again

Close my eyes and dream
Of the day I’ll be free
I’ve been you for so long
No chance to be me

You’ve cost me a lot
More than I could give
In a few week’s you’ll abandon me
With a new chance to live

I suppose it’ll be alright
It’s better this way
I’ve done it before
I do it every day

So as our days run away
Faster and faster
I’ll sit back, and sing
In the face of disaster

Shooting Stars?

I’ll follow you
Across the sky
Your trail of light reflected in my black, black eyes
Give the moon a run for her money
She can’t compete
For a moment you’re a glimmer of hope
The cloud’s silver lining
Reappear on the other side
Another case of mistaken identity?
I’ll crash back down to reality.
To the same scenario, again:
A plane mistaken for a shooting star
A shooting star mistaken for a chance
