Poet

I could write a book about the things I see in your eyes
I could craft sonnets about the way you look under night skies
You said you liked poetry that one time
I’m not good at most things but for you I would try

I could be a poet only for you
I could write forever with you as my muse
If you wanted to fly I’d make you wings
Then I’d make another pair so I could fly too

I could be an artist just so I can paint your hues
I could capture your brightest yellows and blues
The museums would be lucky to display such a masterpiece
Even if they only lived here I would never cease

I could be a singer so we have something to listen to for a while
I could be a dancer for the chance to maybe earn your smile
If my days end tomorrow then I’d still listen to you
Anything you say I’d live to make true

I could be a poet
But only for you

Ocean’s Past

Sitting at the shore
Water at my toes
Thinking of more
Drowning in woes

The rocks over there
Is where sat together
It’s where we would share
No matter the weather

That firepit was our kitchen
You would sing songs
And I would listen
But not for long

You collected shells
And then put them back
I knew your tells
You didn’t want the sea to lack

The sunset I see now
Outlined by waves
Is much like when you wondered how
We’d love till our graves

I close my eyes
I hear the birds and your voice
I tell myself lies
That we ever had a choice

Tassels

Christmas morning at seven years old
Separated from the other gifts it was
It looks different now that it’s sold
To me, worth mountains in gold

That one hill we made a racetrack
Before we counted all that we lacked
We had our own cars, our own lore
Only two wheels instead of four

Back when my bike still had tassels
Oh, Way back, way back, way back
Way back when days weren’t a hassle
I wish I could ride forever
If fate hadn’t pushed that lever
But I’ll always remember
When my bike had tassels

Parked by the tree house, turned into a greenhouse
My heart was full
Going through trails, picking up lost snails
Never ever dull

And if I didn’t appreciate
Let me now open the gate
Outside world I now hate
It’ll never be the same

Back when my bike still had tassels
Oh, Way back, way back, way back
Way back when days weren’t a hassle
I wish I could ride forever
If fate hadn’t pushed that lever
But I’ll always remember
When my bike had tassels

Tired never tired of carrying us around
No more glitter, instead just withered
Memories kept us alive
Back when we used to ride

Oh up and down, up and down
(The hills)
Way back when, way back when
(We rode)
It kind of gives, kind of gives
(Me chills)

Back when my bike still had tassels
Oh, Way back, way back, way back
Way back when days weren’t a hassle
I wish I could ride forever
If fate hadn’t pushed that lever
But I’ll always remember
When my bike had tassels

My Park Bench

I think I’ll sit here a while
The ground could vanish
Say something outlandish
And I’d stay right here
And not move a muscle
This is my bench
It’s perfectly crafted
Devoid of any stench
I made it myself
 Catered to me
It’s quiet and peaceful
Or at least it seems to be
The wood is all mine
I can trace with my finger
All the little lines of age
I’m glued to this bench
Is what I will tell you
When they ask me for something
Give me a task to do
I’ll stay right here
Until the day starts anew

Perception

Perception is the cage in which I’m stuck in daily
My being is a double sided mirror, the thoughts of others are on the other side just barely out of my grasp
I don’t mean to be so over analyzing
Wait.
Do you think I’m over analyzing?
Do you think I’m chill or too anxious or weird?
If you could describe me in five words what would it be?
What do you say about me behind closed doors?
What was your first impression of me?
I’m doing it again aren’t I?
The key to the cage is on the ground precisely five feet away from me.
The bars are vastly far apart.
I could slip out of the cage if I wanted to.
But would they think I don’t care enough to stay in the cage?
That I’m taking the easy way out by slipping between the cracks?
Nevermind.
I think I’ll just stay in here
Unless you’d rather I not.

Shoes

To live a thousand lives through the eyes of others
A gift that often goes forgotten
The soul of another
Person that is not me
Or you or she
The tallest giraffe or the smallest bee
The shoes of a neighbor can walk forever
You’d never know the distance until
Much much later
Is the moment where we sit down and ponder
If I had those shoes might i have wandered
As far as the original owner did go
Or would I have stopped, hopped to and fro
You can never truly ever know
If the person beside you
has climbed a mountain in the same shoes of the one you confide in
The soles might be gone, the shoelaces
All dirty for they have donned these shoes
For years upon years
You would know that if you only opened up your ears
To hear and to listen or maybe to feel
The contents of their person
That may be like you
Or not at all
Maybe the wall in your thinking
Is a simple diversion
Your shoes are too new, too shiny
To see through the bubble in which you exist
To live a thousand lives through the eyes of others
Is a gift that sits in the back of our mind
If only we spared a thought to remind

Parallel

There’s a scrapbook I look back on
Every once in a while
When I’m in a reminiscing mood
It always seems to make me smile

Pictures of us, of you
With disposable cameras
We bought in surplus
I’d like to think you look back on it too

Oh, how could anything ever be a waste of time
Is loving our time together such an awful crime
A dream that i had where you were the one for me
Is no longer alive, that I can clearly see

Cuz maybe we were
Just parallel lines
Wrong person wrong time
Destined to meet once but never again, so very sad

Parallel lines
Never intertwined
I say I’m okay with it, cuz what else am i supposed to do without you

Sometimes I think i see your face
In the gluten free aisle
Because Of course i know that about you
I was so happy then,
Tragically I didn’t have a clue
What’s to be will be
But why couldn’t it be me for you

I sewed the hole in your favorite pants
It made you happy,
and that was my favorite kind of romance
When it felt easy
Sonnently pleasing
Two puzzle pieces
When they fit just right
Seemed like it ended before day turned into night

Cuz maybe we were
Parallel lines
Wrong person wrong time
Destined to meet once but never again, so very sad
Parallel lines
Never intertwined
I say I’m okay with it, cuz what else am I supposed to do without you

Reading between the (lines)
Fine (lines)
Punch (lines)
Dead (lines)
Life (lines)
On (line)
Off (line)
Never the right time

In my head
We’re intersecting
In my dreams
We never parted
But reality is taking over
Life is not my four leafed clover

Cuz maybe we were
Parallel lines
Wrong person wrong time
Destined to meet once, but never again how very sad
Parallel lines
Never intertwined
I say that I’m okay with it, cuz what else am I supposed to do without you

Please

Please whoever’s out there
Let my soul be forever tainted
With the sorrows of my yesterdays
And the worries of my tomorrows
If I said I wished for certainty
I know it’d be a lie
Because certainty is the thief of the spark that makes me try
And when it’s already so weak and close to extinction
I pray to the stars alone that it only keeps on breathing
Without fire we are nothing, without purpose we are restless
We’d spend our days alone with the word that is unless
And if I’m ever content with the greys of my periphery
Please give me something else in the distance that will sing to me
My peace is my unknowingly, anxious, hungry way of viewing
And if my eyes no longer understand then please whoever’s out there
Remind me

Misty

Misty
I have a couple invitations
To the same old soirée
Would you believe me if I said
It’s not until May
But I’m already planning
On drifting far away

I’m like mist, simply moonkissed, Irish goodbyeing my way around the world
I’m like mist, I won’t be missed, saving my time for an empty guest list
I’m like mist

345, I’ve never felt so alive
Walk right through me, Idon’t mind truly

There but not really, no impact if I fall
Wouldn’t have the gall to step out of place or show my face in this awful overcrowded place

I’m like mist, simply moonkissed,Irish goodbyeing my way around the world
I’m like mist, I won’t be missed, saving my time for an empty guest list
Im like mist

My own bliss
Right here
Staying near
To no one
Is my own kind of fun

Making a list
Of everyone
Who will notice
Checking it once
Checking twice
Have to be concise
For fear of stumbling

Misty misty
They won’t miss me miss me
In their dreams their dreams
Maybe tomorrow
But we all know

I’m like mist, simply moonkissed,Irish goodbyeing my way around the world
I’m like mist, I won’t be missed, saving my time for an empty guest list
Im like mist mist
