My Younger Self

In an effort to become something you aren’t,
You lose track of who you were.
I often think about who I was,
And how I felt then,
Here’s what I would say to my younger self:

I would tell him the all mistakes I’ve made,
Yet he’s amazed at how much I’ve learned

I would tell him how many times I’ve lost,
Yet he would only hear about how much I’ve won

I would tell him about the bad I’ve done,
Yet he can only see the good in me,

I would tell him about the times I almost gave up,
Yet he stares in awe that I’m here

I would tell him about all the mountains I’ve had to climb,
Yet he never thought I would be up so high

I would tell him about all of the burdens I carry,
Yet he notices how strong I am

I would tell him about the people I’ve lost,
And he gets sad for a bit,
Yet asks more about the people I’ve gained

I would tell him about all the time I’ve felt like I’ve wasted,
Yet he never thought I could be so busy

I would tell him all the times I’ve felt useless,
Yet he points out when I’ve helped people

When life gets to you, you ask yourself,
“What would my younger self say?”
Because chances are,
They’re proud of you.

Life

I started in middle school,
A hobby that not very many people thought was cool,
Yet it allowed me say what I couldn’t speak
And has helped me out when times were bleak.

I submitted my first poem through a class,
And waited for the weeks to pass.
I had won the contest,
With a poem of protest.
It was put into a book,
I remember being so excited to look,
And seeing my name on the page.
The people around me saw a talent that would only grow with age.

My aunt bought a bunch of books to give out,
She supported me with all of her heart, I have no doubt.
She was a kind soul,
And for a lot of people, her absence brings a hole

I write this to honor her,
And to remind people that life is a blur
Always cherish the people who helped you get where you are,
Don’t let them grow too far,
Make that call, send that text, keep them in mind,
Before time reminds you that it is not your friend, and it will not be kind

Transport of Love

Love starts off as a train,
Speeding down a tunnel that seems to last forever,
And you would love nothing more than for it to be eternal,
Sometimes, the person next to you leaves,
And another sits down to take their place,
But there’s always someone new to keep you company, if only you wait

Love eventually becomes a car along a road,
Where arguments become bumps,
Then become nails in the road,
And it’s easy to get a flat.
But take a breath,
Too many times do people abandon a car,
That just needs a new tire

Love’s final transformation is a boat,
Where a storm is rare,
But never impossible,
You and your partner have overcome the bumps of the road,
And are now smooth sailing,
The everyday ocean you once thought of monotonous, is now what you live for
And you’re surrounded by an ocean of content
Unfortunately, like all good things,
It must come to an end,
One day life will force you to dock,
Whether you want to or not.

Appreciate the rush of the train,
The smoothness of the road,
The peacefulness of the boat,
Because you never know when
your train will derail,
Your car crashes,
Or your boat capsizes,
So love who you love, with all you have

His Sun: Part 1

As the sun rises against the black sky,
He realizes that he let yet another day pass him by
He thinks that there’s no use in trying
All he can think about now is dying
But then she appears,
And dries his tears
She becomes his sun, and he her night,
She is his warm, healing light
Now, he has a reason to not wanna die:
He could never bring himself to make her cry
Together, they watch as the darkness fades away
And he notices that his world is now no longer filled with gray

His Sun: Part 2

He thought about what he did, as he gazes upon the dark sky:
He made his sun cry.
She sometimes burned him,
And so he pushed her away on a whim.
He went on to fly high and do big things,
But now misses the warmth of his sun on his wings
Their friendship wasn’t perfect,
Yet one argument had a big effect
Now they’re both sad,
And he thinks about the good times they could have had.
She would’ve loved to see him soar,
But his words left her sore
Now she’s gone,
And all he can do is hope for dawn

To my beloved readers

To my beloved readers
I see myself as a painter,
My words serve as my paint,
My thumbs are my brush,
And my canvas,
is your mind,
my beloved readers.

With every poem I write, I hope to paint in your mind
What I see,
How I feel,
And who I am as a person.
Every time I write,
It’s a self portrait in word form
Every emotion,
Every word,
Comes from my heart,
In hopes that you,
My beloved readers,
Can see who I truly am
I want to thank you,
For taking this time to allow me to paint in your mind,
I appreciate your support,
and I hope you will all continue to be,
My beloved readers.

Branching Out

Love is a tree in Autumn,
Coloring a grey sky in magnificent shades
But like all trees,
Each one,
Each person’s tree, is unique
Some people branch out a lot, and their tree is filled with branches,
While others won’t, or can’t branch out

The vibrant colors of the leaves define their branch,
And each leaf is filled with an emotion that gives it its beautiful color.

Yellow leaves are the happiness that person brings to your life.

Red leaves represent the frustration one brings to you
These leaves should not be feared, nor ignored.
One cannot love without ever getting upset,
Yet one cannot love if always angry

Purple leaves are the sadness you feel when someone leaves.
People come and go,
So grow out their branch as much as you can,
Or one day you’ll live to regret it

Orange leaves are fear.
The fear of loss,
The fear that one day,
you may never see the person you love again
Everyone fears this,
Just don’t let that fear come to fruition,
By letting it turn your leaves orange

The trunk of the tree is the love one has for themself,
And small tree can only support so many branches,
So grow out your branches,
But never neglect the trunk,
As poison in the trunk,
Spreads to the leaves

Waiting for fuel

No motivation,
No drive,
A goal in mind,
A road ahead
Yet no fuel for the car
That will take me there
Instead I sit,
Parked in complacency
Waiting for fuel

I was told not to take my foot off the gas,
But what if there’s no more?
What if pressing the gas only damages the tank?
Now I can only look out the windshield at the long winding road
I see obstacles in the distance,
 from here they look massive,
And my fuel dries up again,
But I’ve come so far,
And I don’t plan on stopping forever
But right now I must stop
And wait for fuel

Fruit

Achievements are like freshly picked fruit
They taste good, but they have the dirt of mistakes on them
It’s never good to ignore that dirt,
Always wash your fruit before you enjoy it.

Some people drink the dirty water instead,
Choosing to focus on the bitterness of the dirt instead of indulging in the sweetness of the fruit.

Other people choose to always indulge in the fruit, but then grow surprised when the fruit no longer tastes the same after awhile

Don’t let your fruit grow sour,
But don’t let the bitterness of dirt overpower you

Light

The world is a stage,
Something that grows more bizarre yet beautiful with age
I hold a spotlight,
And I point it at everyone in my sight
It’s better that way
I made sure I did all I could
To let the world see the people it should
I don’t want to be seen,
Nor do I want my own scene
Some people try to see,
But I try to point their attention away from me
At the end of the day,
I’ll be ok
Just as long as everyone in my sight
Is bathed in light
