I said “you look pretty”,
The bold remarks made me choke
I said “it’s not funny”
But it wasn’t a joke

When we talk you say it softly,
I’ve never felt anything like it
Butterflies when I heard you breathe
But I love it when you’re awfully quiet

Sometimes all I think about is you,
Sleepless nights— you’ve had them too
You said I looked good in blue
Late nights in the middle of June

A lot can change in twenty seconds,
But we love being in the dark
It wasn’t recommended
It’s hard to stop it once it starts

This puppy love is out of line,
I never thought you’d be someone I miss
Didn’t control the helium this time
I guess I want you more than I thought I did

I wanna be alone,
Sun roof broken— what a mess
Arms I used to call home
Alone with you, does that make sense?

I don’t want to talk right now,
You tricked me
I just need to sit back down
I just want to watch TV

God I wish I was happy,
You gave me brown wilted leaves
I was foolish to believe
The fraying threads of recovery

I wish we never learned to fly,
Above the clouds, at least we tried
Broke the atmosphere, we flew so
high

I don't know what to do

I'm kind of all out of love

It's just
seeping through my tone
my words
my heart

have you noticed?

onto the floor
running
away
from me

I feel so heavy

Almost like it's scared,
but it's slow
it seems tired too
exhausted, drained

so empty

I don't know where it went
or why it left
I can't give more
my heart is sore

I knew this would happen

I'm sorry
i don't know what to do

I'm kind of all out of love
for you

Like I Do

I can't tell if you care.

Or if you notice
ice cream bars left at my apartment,
hazelnut chocolate,
you said you didn't want it

Do you just want to feel
heat in your palm,
a push on your shoulder

Something?
in your chest,
in your hands,
the lack of rest, clothes full of sand

Am I just fun
someone you go to
when you can't sleep,
basketball, crunching leaves

To you?
a voice filling an empty room,
crossword puzzles, guitars out of tune,
bagels, gummy bears, sleep in 'till noon

Did those two seconds mean nothing
a handshake, caffeine to stay awake
movies, burnt popcorn, the flowers I gave

to you?
"I don't know what to say,"
a cold walk home, clenching my waist,
salt water, hope, streaming down my face

I have a headache

I've had it for the past three days
warm showers, waiting for
hours,
it won't go away

I can't tell if you care

like I do
a chipped fingernail,
I don't know what I mean to you

Blue Tulips

Blue tulips, it's delightful to have something new.
Told me you found them naturally by a lake.
I had a smile on my face as my yellow tulips were replaced,
I waved those sagging petals goodbye.

They were vibrant, electric,
I displayed them in a vase.
Helped water them,
they grew at a fast pace.

Before, I found beauty in my wilted yellow flowers,
I didn't need anything else to admire.
But then I noticed how similar their blue was to the color of hot stars,
Their presence became something I craved.

So I took care of them for days,
enjoying the air they made.
They flourished, you said we couldn't tell anyone,
they would accuse us, thinking we created something fake.

But the stems never broke, and not a single petal was rough.
Every single cell was real; it did seem too good to be true.
At one point, I, too, began to question the flower's authenticity
so I gave one silky surface a touch.

it stained my fingertips; turned them blue.
It looked like frostbite.
you said:
"It's such a pretty color on you."

It was beautiful at first, the pattern on my skin,
But then it started getting on my curtains, in my hair
warm water and soap wouldn't get it off my fingers, the dye
You told me it would just linger.

I noticed the color seep into the stem, and they began lean and bend.
None was on you; it was just
the flowers, and I
drowning in your blue.

then

i found the green and purple ink
you mixed them,
greed and desire, you forgot to hide them
left them by the sink.

I had no clue
The care you expressed,
Everything you said,
I was foolish to believe that any part of this was true.

you knew.

I let you turn my yellow tulips blue.
You made them droop.
i never should've trusted you.
