Magnolia

Deer in a wooded thick.
They flicker flames; some sweet carefree melody.
Watching you dance through milky eyes.
A smile not shrouded in haze.
Two eyes look back as one heart reminds
me of you
you of me.
A fleeting moment.
A distant memory.
A beautiful dance.

I yearn for that song to return.
To hear those sounds, that melody.
The words the radio speaks now have done me no wrong, but to go back?
Back to that moment.
It's all just a memory.
I'd ask for one last dance.

It was beautiful, the life, the spark, the sound.
A beauty pure of heart, not forgotten by our nature.
You live in our memories now; while I can only dream.
You've walked the path of magnolias without me;
you would never ask me to come with you.
I wish you could see me in this moment.
To give me one last memory.
To dance with me once more.

The memories we had were beautiful.
I wish I could have captured our dance in that sunflower field.
But to capture it, would never do it justice:
a moment isn't beautiful because it lasts.

Cyanide

Our beautiful garden grows in the dark
a love kept hidden by the sun.
Petals reflect the moonlight and fire
flickers, ash lingers, lights spark.

The crow circles our field of fire
floating, crying, yelling at the sun.
"Why have you grown this garden?
Don't you know you'll tire?
Shining your light, it distracts you
taking away the light we fight for."

A single tree grows in the garden.
It grows in the summer
never wavering in the winter.
The garden wilts in a spring shade
and the crow watches above.

For the crow knows the sun,
after all, he molted with their feathers.
Setting on the horizon;
the first time this world saw light
The crow can only watch him rise and set,
the garden under their faithful sight.

The crow lands on its limb
pouring cyanide on the budding tree:
a flower that could never bloom.
The fruit rotting before the sun.
Leaves fall, bark peels, branches loom.

The tree is no more, the garden is free.
The crow returns to its nest,
looking at the horizon.
The sun is hard at work in his garden;
the plants untouched.
Metal glimmers, chimes sing in the wind.
A man filled with gold stands watch,
under faithful sight.

The crows stare, asking why
but the sun returns to the sky.

Skin

Touch the silk that lines your glove
smooth and soft.
They don't bother with the skin
you were never shown love.

Do not write me letters
They'll be burned away
Hungry are the eyes that are
eating me away, they're
eating me away, they'll
never get away, they're
eating me away
Do not make me stay.

I'll float across your hands as they play
Scars on your knuckles, they're bruised from
your touch.
I feel every bump, every cut, any scrape;
they're eating you away
they'll never go away
they're eating you away
you'll never have to say,

"I want you to stay"
I would anyway.

Opossum

Autumn drives down rocky roads
I pass by small remains.
A moment so brief, it fades and grays;
for it, the moment stayed.
Curious the spirit once was
its beauty now butchered and stained.
Reminders of life lived together
I relive those times as they decay.

When you're driving it feels like forever;
Trees and sky seem the same.
But there are seconds in the morning,
and minutes where I see
a time spent with you and me
pictures left outside their frame.
I can't bear the sight, nor the pain that it felt
as the spark faded
the moment slipped
light escapes from the eyes
sun sets.
Furs not fresh make matted pelts.

No longer does the beat echo down the hall.
I cannot hear you breathe
the lonely drives without your touch
remind me of how fast it sleeps
scraped away the bones are
exalted after our stay.
The only one I've ever known
my eyes see through it all
I have never felt so strong
about a critter on my road.

It's hard to forget, it's hard to recall
my leave is always reminded by the color of fall
I say to myself to make it home safe
slow down when it rains
it is easy to lose control.
I can't hear your voice over the radio
but I will soon enough
every word is a melody
music for the soul.

Iris

I know that look.
The look you give me when you have doubts
you look at me, but I notice a glimpse of
something
subtle
when the sun hits you right.
I miss seeing it.

I see eyes all the time
everyone has a pair
But nobody has yours.
How can I tell?

What should I wear?
You're wearing hazel which I match
mocha, but mine is dull next to you.
There's a light in yours.
Radiating from a ring only I can see.
You couldn't see it in the dark but to me?
There is no such place where you're looking.

But I know that look.
"There is no light when I look in the mirror?
Our clothes match?
Everyone has eyes, so what's the difference?"

I miss seeing you.
You wander through the night and the moon
simply isn't bright enough.
I can't see them, but they're there.
The moon can't blind me.
They can't blind me; I still see you
with my eyes I see you
and suddenly
we match.
