Marie May Poem
I've wasted so many words on people.
Sore thumbs, achy wrists, inkless pens, and a strained throat.
I always want to hold on.
Holding my breath, in hopes that I can freeze time.
Pause in a moment where I have everyone I need.
I hate to watch them walk away,
but no one stays forever,
and I watch them walk away every time.
And every step cuts deep, and every new loss re-opens the same wounds.
A wound that never truly heals.
Not because it can't, but because I won't let it.
Though it hurts, the pain is a lasting memory.
The picture of their face may disappear,
and I may forget the sound of their voice.
But the scar will never leave me.
It is a way for the love that was once there to never fade.
Because there must've been love there for something to cut this deep.

Marie May Poem
When a flower doesn't sprout, it's easy to want to dig it up and start over.
It might be dead, or maybe it's too weak to grow, but it is important to remember:
growth takes time.
Some flowers are late bloomers,
Some need to be cut and pruned to thrive.
Not all flowers grow in the same conditions, but that doesn't make one flower better than another.
Because at some point, they all bloom,
and they are beautiful if you have the patience.
Care for your flowers.
Let them grow.
Watch their beauty bloom, as yours will too.

Marie May Poem
To be loved is to be known.
I want to know every little thing about you.
Tell me what makes you tic.
What gets you out of bed on a bad day?
Or who?
And who do you think about right before you slip into sweet sleep?
What are all your favorites?
I want to know everything.
Who was your first loss?
First love?
What is your greatest wish?
Tell me every word of that "dumb" story you've told a thousand times.
Let me write it down.
Every time you smile, I want to know why.
I want to make you smile.
I want you to feel known.
I want you to feel loved.

Marie May Poem
Familiar hands you came to know so well
They’re kind and warm, a special kind of spell
Your comfort made you blind to all but this
Yet, who’s to blame when ignorance is bliss
Get tossed into a world, face something new
Fear finds its way, you feel a spell turned sour
A storm strikes fast, you see a darker view
But after rain, you’re sure to see a flower
New hands hold up the dreams you see today
While past ones stay to watch and shout, “Hooray!”
You look ahead, embrace the clouds of grey
Hold fast to those that steady when you sway
To trip and fall is just a way to learn
And you’ll find friends at each and every turn

Marie May Poem
It hits me fast,
but fades so slow
It stings and pulls and lasts,
not that you'll ever know
Did you hear my tears?
Can't you tell I'm fading?
Quick turn the gears,
soon we won't be waiting
I'll say goodbye while you hold tight
You took too long to notice
I've given up on the fight,
I've forgotten what hope is
"I miss you, come home soon"
But you speak into an empty room
"too little, too late" I whisper
I wanted your attention, just a sliver
No more tears to cry, no more slack to give
I promise myself I'll be different for as long as I live.

Marie May Poem
The birds always have a song to sing
And the wind rushing through the leaves produces a sweet melody
The sound of footsteps tap to a rhythm that many don't notice
And even my own heart has a beat that lives and breathes with me
But them who am I without a song?
Longing to join the chorus but I'm somehow always wrong
My voice dreams to be heard and my mind wishes to be free
But unlike the birds,
I have never found my song to sing
No melody to ring and no rhythm to hold steady
I pray one day I'll find my tune and hope the world is ready
