No Guts, No Glory - A Skeletal Lament

Nette Onclaud- DROP THE CLICHE
10 Dec. 2025

I sit uttering the common words,
NO GUTS, NO GLORY, but what of me?
What of the bone, the structure,
The planning for the plot?
Why am I denied recognition
For remaining in the background?
I was still here. It was me. Alas,
No guts. No glory

My Heaven's Playout

Have you ever felt heaven?
More specifically,
The after world in an angel’s eyes,
The angel in your third period music class
Who never sits straight up
And never talks to loud
And never is openly too mad.
Or the angel in second period drama,
The one with the long blond hair who smiles
And says “It’s not okay,
But we’ll be okay”
While her bandages are still damp,
And her wounds are not closed.
Or the angel on the phone
Who promises forever and always
While he counts down the hours to see you again.
The tall one
With the soft brown hair he can’t control,
And the most darling eyes,
Blue or green or grey.
The one who wraps you in everything he is
Even when he’s not sure what he is.
The one who says he’s a monster
Because he couldn’t save you from your own hell?
I have.
I’ve felt heaven in the nonjudgmental gaze of my love,
My platonic and romantic adoration.
I have seen why.
Why I will wait to move on.
Why I may never cross the river.
Because I have no where to go if they’re not there,
And they have no where to go
If not with their people
Who have people
Who have people.
And so,
I know I will take my heaven past the grave.
I may never get to judgement day
But I will be happy
In the kingdom we will build in between.

SNOWGLOBE MEMORIES

I press my face against the glass,
My reflection glimmers and at last
I feel the warmth, the outer glow
Something, anything, other than snow.
I look out into the beyond
I see a fireplace, hear a song.
Sometimes I wish that was me
With a gift, a home, a tree.
Alas, that wasn't in my cards,
No place for a snowman in their hearts.
The way I melt shall be artistic,
Outside the globe is simply...
Mystic

Icicles or Snowy Swords

Snow Fantasy or Christmas Nostalgia Poetry Contest, Constance La France, writing for theme 1

I am a queen
Like the ones in those movies with the sled dogs pulling them on sleighs
Except I don't want that for my dogs.
I am the sort of queen who walks elegantly
Though not in dresses because it's simply not practical.
I am the snow boot mistress
Securing my specialized soldiers as anything but listless.
I am a fair ruler
Though not pretty, I am just,
I am ferocious.
I wield my icicle sword by the hilt
And my hands don't get cold
For I am the Queen of Snow.
I am everything I want to be,
Living out my fantasy,
Until Mama calls me inside;
My cheeks are rosy
And it's heavily snowing
And the darkness is growing
And she has the fireplace roaring
And the tea is pouring
And it's almost time for dinner...
I can be a Queen again
Tomorrow
