Claudia Hochberg Poem
I carry my heart
Upright, full of color, light
A hidden rainbow.

Claudia Hochberg Poem
Watered Down
Tiny mirrors, iridescent light
aged salt on my skin
Mother of Pearl
inlaid earrings reflect the
seashell skull MASK
I wear below the surface.
No longer able to carry
life's miseries and mistakes
the inevitable misfortunes
the chaos above
the crushing sound of the surf
I sink, no anchor
WATERED DOWN
my pulse dissolves
into the water and
rhythmic movement
Released.
No one can hear
my muffled screams
the silent anguish of age
the dark underwater shadows
We all live with
blacked thoughts
I have kept only to myself.
Diving headfirst
into the vast silence
I place each piece of hidden shame inside
the colored clam shells
I collect
between green seaweed waves.
One White, One Grey, One Pink
So....This is how Pearls are made.................................
Life takes its own eternity to create beauty
Kicking upward
I push leaving the
sandy bottom
tiny bubbles of rainbows
fill my lungs with freedom
I carry my handmade
human heart
I rise toward the filtered sunlight
there is no other choice
leaving this poem
Buried under the seawater’s door.

Claudia Hochberg Poem
NEW BOOTS
WE DROVE IN YOUR BIG BLACK
TEXAS TRUCK
ALL NIGHT FOUR DIRECTIONS
NO DESTINATION
NO LONGER LOVERS
NO LONGER FRIENDS
TONGUES TIED
INTO A CHERRY KNOTS
NO WORDS TO SHARE
NO LONGER BOUND
TO THE ROAD WE WERE ONCE ON
NO LONGER HOLDING
EACH OTHERS' THOUGHTS
OR DREAMS OR HEARTS-
DRIVING WEST INTO THE
SUNBURN LIGHT
HIGHWAY 40 IS CLEAR
I'VE HUNG A CRUCIFIX
AROUND MY NECK
YOU NO LONGER THERE-
I LEFT A
SILVER EARING
BY THE BED
I ONLY NEED ONE
ON MY EAR
JUST MIXED, NOT MATCHED
SPARKLING IN THE REARVIEW MIRROR.
FOR CAR

Claudia Hochberg Poem
This house like a mother
a womb to curl into
a place calling for
prayers for the dead
I am an open book
a bible with torn pages
This house like a mother
whose heart is worn
outside the stars
live with hope
of better days
No sleep in the round
snail room, her spiral
empty and full
there is no one
who knows
the song of sorrow
except the raven
Starbird
Death, the only outcome
of living and choosing
we who love wisely and
we who don't
Bring back the magic
my son, my daughter,
my child who cries in the night
where the wild coyotes mourn
In the distance I listen
behind the mauve adobe wall
written across my chest
I find this poem
late into the night
with blue feathered tears.

Sleekness of the Cat
I watch your back arch and rise
A private pleasure

Claudia Hochberg Poem
Egyptian eyes awaked, my cat's cries
dark lover's shadows slumber
distant thunder sound rumbles
moonbeams flashlight the sky.
As I reconcile this love, this death
Silent man no longer sleeping at my breast.
