Gazlam Motaung Poem
( For all the girls in the Western cape)
I am Oudtshoorn's odyssey of opulence, so ornate I make Aphrodite look underdressed.
My form is a sculptural miracle that bends light and reality with a mere whisper of perfection.
I am the quiet queen of the Klein Karoo, and my beauty is literally the oxygen you breath.
Scientists claim the stars rearranged themselves just to spell out my name in cosmic awe.
I am the ocular opera everyone wishes they had front-row tickets for.
To speak of my beauty requires a new language made entirely of sighs and rapturous adjectives.

Gazlam Motaung Poem
Verse 1
Epitaph for a Shy Guy
He spoke in secrets ,shadows said so sweet,
A murmur,muted,on the main street.
His silence screamed a story,softly,slow,
A secret sparkle scarcely seen to glow.
The quietest voice was quote,we carefully
quote it still,
His peaceful presence,a perfect,peaceful
perfect pill.
Verse 2.
Epitaph for the Baadjievanger (1)
He snared,the swift,sly,silver-tongued
salesman,
Who wove his webs, winning with wit, when
the world began.
His dreams were a dream, a dazzling dreadful
disaster,
He caught all the cash, moving closer, then
faster.
The final fool fell for fate's false flatter,
His promises proven dust, do they even
matter?
Baadjievanger-A hanger-on,a scammer,opportunist, trickster
Verse 3.
Epitaph for the king of Bling
Here lies a life lined with lovers and
loudness,
A silver sky sparkling several sounds of
stunning soundness.
He wore gold gleaming, his soul's silver song,
But glitter's gone,grandeur's gone,a glimmer
gone gone.
The final flash has faded,a silent, sober
state so swift,
His most mighty magnificence,a memory's
miserable myth.
Verse 4.
Epitaph For the Great Tycoon
A power prince,he piled profits past
the planet's peak,
He bought bank buildings and a billion
bank notes for a break,.
His grip on gold, greatest of governments,
gloomed so grand,
But all his stocks and shares now sleep
beneath the same sand.
He made millions and a mountain of material
money,
Yet mortal making means memory's most
melancholy morning.
Verse 5
Epitaph for a gangster
Here lies a life lived fast and loud,
A silent shadow in the subway street crowd.
His guns are silent,glory's grave,
A kingpin's kingdom nothing could save.
The darkest deeds now dust and dream,
only the diamond death did secretly seam.
Verse 6
Epitaph for a Drunkard
He drank the day,he drained the darkest
dram,
A storm of spirits, slurring slam,
He found his freedom in the fluid flow,
His journey's joke, the bottle's bitter
blow.
The final bar is closed, the tab is settled low,
He's now not near the nectar nor the glass's
glow

Gazlam Motaung Poem
I raise my glass against the creeping night,
And laugh at shadows clawing at my flame;
Let death come slow or fast-I hold my light.
For what is life if lived without a claim
To fire, music, madness, reckless cheer?
A sober world is sober than it's shame
So let the cautious tremble, clutching fear;
I'll dance where fear runs red as mortal blood,
And drown the ticking silence in jeer.
Let saints preach duty, labour, sweat, and mud-
Their sermons wilt beneath the club's loud roar;
I choose the storm, the glitter and the flood.
Though bones may crack and lungs may breathe no more,
My name will rise from every emptied cup-
A toast to nights that burned my spirits raw.
And when the final reckoning adds up,
Let death itself bow down before my spree;
I lived unchained, and never once looked up

Gazlam Motaung Poem
In the night' quiet my heart whispers alone,
Through subterfuge, the night' secrets are sown,
Stars track your name where untamed rivers flow
Each sigh is a candle that flickers and shown
The wind carries fables of a love once believed,
Through empty palaces in echoes unknown.
Hope, a brittle bird on the quivering branch,
Sings of dreams that the night has overthrown.
Surely the sea fears that the wind will reply,
Surely your begging, will fall from the sky
Unmoving,I cling in hope to the flame,
Unafraid I whisper your name
Pheko, Beloved Son Of Lizzy

Gazlam Motaung Poem
Verse 1
You came as frost on sleep
deprived vein,
Rendered flight,delivered chains,
Flattered big time in voice of lies,
Stole the dawn from my very eyes
Chorus (of the victims of drugs)
Here lies your defeat,(cold) and still,
Drugs break the body, not the will
Your drug dens end where Truth takes seat-
Cocaine-here lies your defeat
Verse 2
You breathed lust in a saint's disguise,
Fed on the girl's Tears,the boy's Demise.
And the timid you tortured to weep,
Now they awake from your deceitful sleep
Chorus (of the victims of drugs)
Here lies your defeat (cold) and still,
Drugs break the body, not the will
Your drug dens end where Truth takes seat-
Cocaine-here lies your defeat
Bridge
Rise from ash,from bone,from blight,
I drink the stars,I own the night.
Your voice dissolves beneath my feet,
Your reign of hollow ends complete.
Final Chorus (The Outro)
Here lies your defeat (grim ) and still
Drugs brake the body, not the will
Your drugs dens end where Truth takes seat-
Cocaine-here lies your defeat

Gazlam Motaung Poem
Each leaf is a lyric,a hymn; each petal is a melody,a prayer for return. The King Protea, royal and still, holds its face to the sun like a proud son of of Africa saying,'' I can survive fire, drought and wind- still I bloom''.
King Protea
burnt hills whispering-
the protea unfolds again,
queen of rebirth's crown
The Fynbos sings in many tongues. Its scent fills the valleys from the Cape to the Karoo,a low and endless choir reminding us that beauty can both be fragile and fierce.
The Fynbos (The Lowland's Breath )
soft winds brush the hills,
fynbos holds the rain's memory-
small flowers,vast memory
The Baobao, the ancient one, stands in the North like a monument to time-thick trunk wielding the secrets of millenia, arms wide like welcoming all creatures of the plain.
The Baobao (The Timekeeper)
beneath the old shade,
The ancestor speaks in wind-
silence with heartbeat
The Fever Tree grows ghostly, by the rivers, where the spirits of elephants and herds come to drink; while the Marula gives both fruit and story-for beneath its branches laughter, love and song have long gathered.
The Marula (The Joy Giver)
fruit falls,-laughter rings
children and elephants dance
summer tastes like peace

Gazlam Motaung Poem
You once shaded lovers and sparrows.
your branches combed the morning mist-
a cathedral of green where children sang,
and the sun broke bread with your leaves,
O patient giant, with roots like prayer,
you watched seasons kneel before you.
The rain leaned close to whisper secrets,
the moon hung her lamp from your crown.
But two fools came with saws and laughter-
their hands empty of reverence or song.
They did not hear the sap cry out,
nor the small bird scream from its broken home.
O murderers of shade and silence,
what did you gain from such noise?
The world grew smaller when you fell,
and even the wind forgot its music.

Gazlam Motaung Poem
(Sappho and Leuceus drunk, fighting over who invented the Stanza)
Lesbos howls with song and mgosi tonight,
Leuceus thumbs the table-claims my Stanza his,
I toss my hair, sip the sqo,my daughter lightning-
Let Ogun decide!
He stutters of meters,I of love divine,
He waves his laptop,I smash my Zamalek beer glass to silence
The gods choke at their peptic ulcers-
Mami Wata takes sides.
Tomorrow the'll call me fallen, sinner, muse of rain,
But in their shame, they'll still steal my rhythm,
He'll drown in envy's cup,Ill wake to babalazi
Makoti sing my song
Explanation of words
mgosi-gossip
sqo-as in traditional beer
Zamalek: Black Label Carling beer
Ogun: The god of war
mami wata:mother of water is a symbol of beauty and that's all men want to hear
babalazi-a massive hangover
makoti- ''Maak ons tee'' in Afrikaans meaning ''Make us tea''.This is what will happen to school dropouts;just think about the fate of this one: a young married woman supervised by a grumpy old woman who complaints about anything under the son.

Gazlam Motaung Poem
Little darling, thy fada wears a garland of frowns,
The breda must explain their jokes to him across the night,
Worry devours his heart, his wallet emptied of light,
Fallen sistrins and soaring debts weigh him down.
Parasitic friends, the firewater that hauls him down,
Your mada' open relationship haunts him without end
You poor black girl, his paternal duty no hand can mend,
So little darling, mockingbird sings sagacity' gentle crown.
'' Motivate him'',cries nightingale,'' seek angels that heel,
Set calm and clear, boundaries firm and the rule of right,
Recall the days when Rastafari made his soul bright ,
Technicalized guidance cuts through despair and anger's steel.
Sistren and fada ,simmer down a little bit, sooth the strife,
And read The Holy Piby for blessings in holy Jah life''
Glossary of Useful non pompous English terms:
Fada-father
breda-brother
sistrins -sisters
mada--mother
Rastafari--the best religion
technicalized-professional
Holy Piby-Bible of Rastafari

Gazlam Motaung Poem
Verse 1.
A Closed Mouth Catches No Flies
Silence is a strong shield we must learn
Some fights are not worth any bruise
to the soul
You learn this lesson much too late
After all the words explode
Cut like sharp glass so deep
Tongue is set on fire
Mouth shut tight
Wisdom
Bleeds
Verse 2
All That Glitters Ain't Gold
She wears her fake joy like golden wedding
rings
Smiles for the camera, poses for the whole
world
But when all the spotlights fail
Her shine is all on loan, you see
Truth pawned for social likes
Empty and sparkling
Diamond tears fall
Broken
Gone.
Blood is Thicker Than Wi-Fi
The family chat group full of ghosts now
Missed calls unread are just unseen hearts
They say they love you online, bruh
Real hugs require the air
And airtime is quite cheap
Love is data free
No network
If it's
Real
