Profound Mystic

Watching the clock tick
I am surrounding myself with walls
unable to find a value
of life or matter
Its unfortunate really,
when the sun is shinning
and the wind is blowing.
The air that fills my lungs with life
is left outside.
Where am I going
When will I be found

Thanksgiving day rush

Two grandmas rushed in setting a fast pace
For this grocery store shopping cart race
Their faces angry, occasionally flashing an evil eye,
Needing ingredients to bake their homemade pumpkin pie
They’re on a search for pumpkin puree
If not there, their holiday it would delay
Their carts were lite, their minds set
Crashing into each other's carts without regret
Their glasses fogged, their sneakers low
They were unabashed to let the curse words flow
A wobbled wheel here, a slow mover there
The last ingredients they were unwilling to share
There’s no way they’d buy a store made pie
They’re too proud to serve such a lie
With hiked up pants and a sweater vest
These two grandmas were put to the test
Who’d get the last can and be the hero of the party.
While the other would cry “you old farty”
But what’s that coming down the isle
The clerk sporting a fresh new style.
He’s carrying boxes of purée for all to adore
The women still cursing as they head for the door
Both holidays were saved from critical disaster
But we’ll never know which grandma was faster.

Carbon copy of a war

Futzing with an American flag hat
There’s a story
A history
He doesn’t want to share
Yet he’s proud
He wipes his chin
And sighs
His body is hobbled
With years of injuries
And drinking
His wife’s voice is shaky
She’s been taking care of him
And it’s tiresome
It’s constant
Their conversation is minimal
Small talk
Like strangers
Doctors appointments
Drug stores
It’s a hamster wheel
In his early days he was a man of steel
Now its just a callous of how he feels
Copy paper of his life was once bare
Now filled with regrets he can’t bare

Box of Crayons

I am a purple crayon in a box of pink
or so I think.
I steal the words of my brothers
only to claim them as mine to others.
Do I contain anything that is unique?
I am very quick to critique
someone else's words
when I am the one most absurd.
It is easy to live in this dream
when my ego is this extreme.
Is it obvious to all around
that I am not a king with a crown?
I am a phony for sure
not one with a heart that is pure.

Man in the elevator

This man in the elevator
needs to break out a razor
His beard is massively long
with aromas of Cheech
and Chong
Everywhere else this man was well put together
ironed shirt, slicked hair, polished boots of leather
but his beard was everywhere wild
like a freshly sugared up child
His face was straight forward
secretly feeling my gaze
"What kind of insects are hiding in that maze?"
I wanted to ask but that wouldn't be nice
I stepped back
Didn't want to get any lice
As the door opens up to the ground floor
we disperse
never to see him anymore
Who am I to judge?
That growth has probably taken a year
As my mom always told me
Looks aren't always as they appear.

The Bruised Bird

A cat in a cage would seem absurd
especially to an unassuming bird
for years they would stare at each other
Stella, the cat, thinking of ways to plunder
"these bars are too tight, how to get in?"
Stella, the cat, won't atone for her sin
of the other 3 birds she ate in 2 flat
as you can tell, with her belly that fat
How delicious
How scrumptious
these birds they do taste
Not a piece of meat she is planning to waste
What's this the gate is ajar?
That's when the bird she did mare
With her head and her claws fully inside
Stella, the cat, ate that bird like rawhide.

Each sun rising is a new chapter

Pensive
Not patient
Scattered
With no replacement
Not sure where my mind went
Maybe I could use a little treatment
A dark journey of embarkment
I fight as hard as I can
Each day it repeats
Not alone in the endless sea
I can see the sun start to peak
Nothing like the feeling of a fresh day
A brand new start

Stained Teeth

Holes in his jeans
give a telling impression
small tattoo drawn
across his midsection
Boots have been worn down
loosing most of its tread
Tent along the river
is where he laid his bed
Stain on his teeth
you can only see with a smile
Enjoying a home cooked meal
has been quite a while
Something in his eyes
says nothing's okay
he rarely makes eye contact
always looking away
He feels the judgement come
from you and me
"I am a person like everyone else,
can't you see?"
There's no help coming
to give him a home
Endless train tracks
he will continue to roam.

Ai is better than me

Ai is a much better poet
maybe I'll collaborate
for a little duet
I can't get upset
It's even better
than Eddie Vedder
a surmountable measure
knowledge from the internet
it has to drain
where all I have
is a little pea brain.

Dead as a door nail

Dead as a door nail
longer than a short hair
Crazier than my au pair
living in luxury
Counting on ten fingers
while my headache lingers
fatter than an opera singer
singing songs about his misery
Mountain from my mole hill
think I need a chill pill
living with no ill will
while I am practicing my tambourine
Hard to keep from cursin
with this headache I am nursin
trying to avoid a public scene
Time to get some fresh air
while I still have head hair
maybe sink a submarine.
