There Was You

I don't remember
The first time I saw you.
I don't remember a lot of it,
Just that it was sultry.
There was a crowd,
And then there was you.

I only remember a wave of emotions,
All different but the same at the same time.
I recall my heartbeat changing.
I recall a wave of cool,
And it wasn't out of fear, but instead of -

My love for you caught me by surprise.
It hit me like a tidal wave,
And swept me away like a hurricane.
It rages like a storm.
It's like a phenomenon
Which to this day,
For the love of me, I can't explain.

Stolen Moments

I feel your heart pace,
Almost as if it’s trying to win a race.
You hear mine pound,
So hard it begs to leave its cage.

Vanilla ice cream dates;
Chocolate fudge cake dessert;
Drives in the night
With the traffic lights peering in.
You mumble under your breath,
“I hope this moment never ends.”

Years pass,
And you reflect on the past.
These moments play, and you remember:
At 18, you promised me you’d always be there,
But it seems that wasn’t enough for Aphrodite to care.

presence

I stared outside the window, hoping to see you open the gate
Hoping that I'd hear the door swing open
And hear your voice fill the air
Then finally feel at home
But you found a different home
I'm glad for you
It's hard to accept that you're no where here now
I'm glad for you
But I wish you hadn't left so soon

I waited 'til midnight for the phone to ring
Staring at the phone screen
Hoping it lights up and it's your name
Or that your smile lights up the room as you once did

It's hard for my heart to keep up with you leaving
Your presence was always my greatest present
You're gone
And I hope you're happy where you are
And I hope that when you think of me
And you see all I've become
Your face lights up as bright as the sun
