Die with a smile

If the world was ending,
I'd wanna be next to you;
witnessing the last sunset,
in the mirror of your pearl-shaped eyes
I'd kiss the oysters that cradle them,
one last time before it's too late.

I'd trace your bittersweet tears
with a trail of kisses,
tasting the salty ocean that
burns up your wounds and fears.
untangling your brunette mesh,
as they tighten their grasp
afraid to let go;

I'll embrace you,
until your ice-cold body
melts into my burning chest.
blinded by the myths of forever,
will the dawn rise on us again, ever?
So I'mma love you every night,
like it's the last night.

Your smile fades, the dimples too
no longer creasing your ivory skin,
i can see the sunglow and the sunset
vanishing just like me and you.
Your lips tremble,
whispering fractured syllables,
I'll kiss them for a while,
cherishing the screaming silence,
and die with a smile.

How far will you go for love?

men used to send love letters from war, but ok now they'll feed you bread-crumbs of attention each day, while you remain caught in a cage built of lies, disguised as love.
some people often ask, “how far will you go for love?” but would the distance, be it metres, kilometres or even light years, matter enough? when you find them right next to you, holding your hand, promising to never let go, even if your whole sky is set ablaze;
would he steal the ‘crimson-orangish’ hue of the flames from your burning sky and paint a beautiful sunset on that burnt canvas?
would he switch roles often, sometimes to be your partner in crime, sneaking in your favourite ice cream while the other times, being the calm to your chaos, slow-dancing with you beneath an imaginary drizzle at 3 am like no one's watching?
would he be the one you run to when you're too broken to stand your ground? i hope he holds you in his arms, not to devour, but to dissolve you in it till the two ‘love muscles’ beat in sync with each other, while your breath entangles together swaying like the blue flame of your favourite lavender scented candle or like two shy teenagers dancing at prom for the first time?
skip the talking stage, let's merge souls till we drown deep into each other's eyes that ‘returning would be as tedious as going over’ and the distance between us would become irrelevant.
so, tell me, “how far will you go for love, or would you never leave at all and stay by my side forever?”

Ivory Flakes

You were never the sunset to me, but always the crimson hue veiling the sun; The subtle shyness in the eyes of a maiden wildly in love with the moonlit boy, her prominent lobster red cheeks when she was a blushing mess under his soothing touch. The sly smile lingering around her lips on her way back home, giggling on the reminiscence of the chocolate discovered under her desk, gifted by her ‘anonymously well known lover’; You kissed the sky, a final adieu while diffusing selflessly into the aqua ocean, deep into the underwater world. I would then dive into the ocean, searching for you, till the ‘deadly piranhas’ whisper into my ear, “She is no more a part of your world”. Maybe then I would weep like a widower but my transparent tears would be washed away by the ‘sun kissed ivory waves’.

The street lights flicker like they can't decide whether to stay or leave, just like me

The quiet cityscape witnessed us walking down the lane, side by side. Our footsteps were in sync but our breath didn't care about the rhythm. I was breathing slowly inhaling the oxygen meant for me, while counting the CO2 molecules I exhaled. I found your breath unsettling, maybe your heart was racing too. You were looking down at the streets, at the space between our hands to be precise, while I didn’t know what to say anymore. Your silent expectations were burdening me down, screaming at me to intertwine our fingers, to hold your hand, once again. You won't understand, it was costing me a lot to hold back. It scares me to hope again just like a seed waiting for a kiss from the first rain. The moon was following us, subtly enough not to get caught. We acknowledge its lingering presence above us but we chose to keep walking. It had started drizzling by then, with a sudden calmness just like the one before a wild storm. You held my hand, running towards the bus stop, afraid I'd catch a cold. Something chimed in me, knowing that you still care and unknowingly I reciprocated it too. We stood there waiting for the bus or maybe the right time to speak. The tranquil silence became deafening. You broke the silence. “Yesterday, I dreamt of you.” I fixed the silence again with just a ‘hm’. Seeing it as a signal to continue, after a brief moment, you voiced “We were by the sea, you were in a blue dress holding a bouquet of forget me nots. I remember they are your favourites.” You looked at me searching for an answer but I was looking at the streetlights opposite to us. They were dancing and flickering with every word you pronounced, contemplating whether to stay or to leave - just like me. You called out my name, breaking the chain of thoughts strangling me. It sounded so different than before, as if it was just a forgotten word in the dictionary and never my name. I still answered “ I wonder where the blue dress is right now, maybe I donated it” “but–” “and I love tulips now”. You realized something and spoke with calmness, “ You've changed”. The words I dreaded to hear the most, were now rising a storm within me just as I anticipated moments ago. I wanted to explain and justify myself but it was too late now. The bus was already there, waiting for me like a grim reaper. I boarded the bus, while you started walking away without a goodbye. Although you never looked back, I kept watching you from the window. I wanted to call out your name and invite you for a bus ride with me, but the seat next to me was already taken. Somewhere it felt as if I was moving on, leaving you behind to dwell in our past. The street lights flickered for the last time, as you retraced the path we came through while I left the city for a new destination.
