Christina Dunaway Poem
At the first of the year, I excitedly check the mail each day.
I know that those seed catalogs I ordered are on their way.
I grab pen and sticky notes and start making a plan.
How much of my yard is this year's garden going to span.
The hope, excitement and possibilities run wild through my mind.
I think there are over 200 types of tomatoes do I order one of each kind?
All pictures and descriptions there isn't one that I don't read.
When planning a garden how does one distinguish a want from a need?
The seeds are decided on and the anticipation is great.
Now comes the hard part as I once again have to wait.

Christina Dunaway Poem
there is a parasite amoung us that hides most of the year
once the temperature starts falling as does the leaves its there
right in our sight but out of our reach
so many stories on how it came about
some thought it brought fertility and others protection
it brought death to a Norse god
when all other plants are dying its thriving and even blooms
I am of course talking about mistletoe
every year I hope to find some low enough to gather myself
but more often than not I have to buy some from someone
how wonderful to have this little parasite hanging around demanding a kiss

Christina Dunaway Poem
A cup of tea is what I need to start off each and every day
and if that tea is going to get me through then it must be Earl Grey
I am not quite sure what it is about that exact type of tea
is there magic in bergamot because it's so pleasing to me
I close my eyes as I hold my mug and just take in that smell
the aroma tickles my nose and lets me know all is going to be well
When my cup of tea is all gone, I know there is nothing I can't do
except for patiently wait for the second cup of tea I have around two
If you've never tried Earl Grey, I hope you will give it a chance
it's the best tea to start your little tea romance

Christina Dunaway Poem
The world is a beautiful place if you know where to look.
The wonder on a child’s face or even an adults at their first trip to the zoo.
Looking through the lens of a telescope and seeing the craters on the moon.
Pulling out the most beautiful creation from the oven when you try a new recipe.
The hug from a friend you haven’t seen in a while
.
The look on your love’s face as you’re leaning in for a kiss.
Your reflection in the mirror when you realize you are one of those beautiful things too.

Christina Dunaway Poem
Nothing can brighten my day
more than a simple bouquet.
Roses with a scent so strong
are not the ones for which I long.
Tulips welcome in the Spring
but do not make my heart sing.
I need delicate petals of white
that close up each and every night.
A yellow center, pretty, round, sweet
and if you wish, could be chosen to eat.
Petals that are perfect to pull and see
does he or does he not love me.
A flower that can grow wherever it wishes
can also be found on teacups and dishes.
So simple a flower some may find me crazy
because my favorite flower is the daisy.

glistening with dew
mushrooms growing
in the dark earth
the flutter or tiny wings

Christina Dunaway Poem
This is going to be my best year yet and yes, I know I say that every year.
I know that every year prior to this one I have had bad times, hard times, suffered loss and been hurt and that's not going to change just because a new year rolls around.
Every year that I have survived, which has been all of them so far, I have experienced great joy, lots of love, excitement, went to new places, met new friends and so much more.
I know this going to be my best year yet because I am going to make it so.
