Imaginary Roses

If this were a novel, I’d embrace your hand in mine, but it’s not.
There’s no happily ever after,
No prose of reciprocated feelings.
If we were on a page hidden in some far-off chapter, I’d let my fingers find yours.
And yet, here we stand, apart, living our own lives.
Except my every thought is consumed by you
So rather you're living your own life, unaffected.
Whilst I'm stuck on the rose-scented page in the story of us
But this rose will never bloom.
Life is more thorns than roses.
Yet in a world of roses, we’d have more than just unspoken tension.
We could have a world full of roses,
But sadly, we’ll remain with thorns—
Our hands living apart,
While I sit and read about what we could be
My blood dripping onto the page from the thorns I grasp too tightly.
Holding on to the moment our eyes locked and the scent of roses and possibilities filled the air
The day my hand began to bleed, and my heart started to beat.

My purple nightgown

Life was better when I fit into my princess nightgown
Lights were brighter
The sky more vibrant
All the jokes funnier
Big things felt like distant problems
So distant it was easier to imagine unicorns on poppy petals than my first day of high school
He was here and now he's gone
Songs were catchier
Our laughter more pure
I miss the days of the purple long-sleeved nightgown
The one adorned by my favorite princesses
Back when I could slip on my PJs and not have to worry about washing off my makeup
And the days were full of belly laughs, full of carefree naivety
Always longing to look back rather than forward
I miss you, baby girl
The little girl in the purple princess nightgown, forever and always

symphonic lies

You take her heart off the shelf
To you she’s just a number for your egos wealth
You feel it’s rythm in your hand
Searching for its heartstrings to pluck out a perfectly curratied melody
Each song orchestrated to decisive
It fills her head with sweet lyrical lies of the person you’re pretending to be
deadly poison hidden under a sugar sweet symphony

I am not one

My identity is not one thing
I am not one
I find the very notion insulting
I am an amalgamation of every person who loves and hates
I am my parents in ways I treasure and dread
I am the grandma I never got to meet and the grandpa who left too soon
I am the little girl I was and the woman I will become
My identity is not one thing
I will not be one
I am the places I've touched
I am the lilac walls of my childhood
The stage where I bathe in creativity
I am the bench in the Colorado woods where i left my tears fall
I am the home where my most precious memories live
My identity is not one thing
I am greater than one
I am passion
I am grief
I am creativity
I am every emotion I have have and will soon encounter
My identity is not one thing and to suggest such is to erase all that I am
I am not singular
I refuse to be one

The snowman

You stupid snowman
You said you were cold so I gave you my scarf
Now I sit by you my neck exposed to harsh temperatures
My once rosy lips turn a shade of lifeless blue when they touch yours
Yet that wasn’t enough
You asked for more so I plucked of my coats buttons and placed them in your bare hands
Now I sit loosing feeling in my limbs
You said I was your sunshine
I was convinced you loved me even after you didn’t say it back
Until the sun begin to shine
And you began melt out of my life
I did everything I could to keep you
While you did everything you could to leave
Purposely wearing my coat to speed up the process
All to evaporate into someone else’s arms
Oh you stupid snowman

Wanting and wishing

Do you ever wonder if lighting wishes to be heard?
While thunder silently cries to be seen?
Or the cat to bark and the dog to meow?
The dead to live and the living to die
Why are we always longing for the things we never lost?
Wish for things we may never get?
Always searching for the unobtainable

My Portrait

What if my portrait was never painted
How different would it be if the brush never touch the canvas
Would the exhibit of the world be effected or even notice
The brush lay barren and frayed
A composition of colors never mixed
The foreground forever lost in the artist's imagination
Complex beauty lost to time
A idea wasted
Potential Pigment still sat in vibrant petals
Canvas never primed or lay to an easel
How different would it be if the brush never touched the canvas
If my portrait was never painted, would it be better?

Smoke

Poison to your lips
Marketed as a choice
Whilst they monetize free will
They claims to numb the pain
but it just delays the agony
No one want to kiss the decade lips
Or touch the smoke ridden fingers
Inhale the smoke
Exhale your future
The posion spreads to those around you
Addicted to the feeling
Stuck with the consequences
cough up the black tar of yesterday
Sacrifice your tomorrow

A coin flip

I watch as they place the coin on their thumb
It flies into the air with such force, and all I can hope is that it never lands
Because I've made it this far without unwanted hands on my thighs
50% of women will experience sexual violence in their lifetime
Society has created a coin flip on whether my body is to be treated as my own
It's left up to a ing coin whether I become a statistic in the eyes of the justice system.
A coin decides if he sees my clothing as bait.
A coin chooses whether those perverse whispers will ring in my ears on a constant loop.
A coin will spin in the air with my trust in its palms
It's in the air, and as I see it spinning, I can feel the keys between my knuckles and my vocal cords strained from cries no one came to stop.
Heads or tails? Will I be nothing more than a means to an end for a man?
Heads or tails was my skirt asking for "it"?
Heads or tails did no actually mean no?
How could I ever explain that to her?
To the daughter I hope to bore.
Should I have to warn her about the danger night brings or the weight of lingering eyes?
I'm scared to become a woman, a statistic, a victim, a survivor
A mother
I hope the coin lands in my favor
In her favor
In every woman’s favor
Yet this isn't so
So we sit and watch the coin spin above our heads with tears in our eyes
Hoping, praying, and begging for it to land in our favor rather than the thirty-second pleasure of a man who thinks of us as property.
And yet it seldom does.

Meadows in her mind

She has meadows in her mind;
Each new flower is an original thought.
The sun sets as beautifully as it rises;
A wonderful breeze, as crisp as the sea, dancing with her auburn hair.

I sit and watch the lapping waves in her sapphire eyes,
And for I moment i think see her-
The girl I long to be
The girl I wish was there when i looked in the mirror.

I rub my eyes as I awake,
Realizing that being the girl with meadows in her mind,
Will always be a distant dream .
Forever in my gaze;
Yet just out reach.
