Puddle of Sorrows

A waddle and a cluck is all I seem to amount to
The years soaring through the sky without a true destination in sight
I'm lost but also found as I am a free bird, one of my own destiny
As I find a soft place to land I notice a meager puddle to quench my beak
I lean into the puddle to take a sip, I pause and say to myself "Who am I"
My eyes fill with tears as flashes of memories of what was once my life absorb my mind
Remembering the days right out of the shell, of hope and light from birth
My mother and father greeted me as my siblings and I finally succumbed to the bright world
I shake my head and just see a reflection of myself in the puddle that lay before me
I can't go back to the life I once lived and I wouldn't want to, I am on a new journey
My pain, my sorrows as I waddle around the puddle in reflection of myself, my life
I know that there's a big open sky full of wonder waiting for me
The loss of my family will always be carried with me
My tears splash against me as they had fallen from my eyes to the puddle
I am filled with relief as I can take my leave with my feathered-covered breast held high
I think I can answer that question from early..."I am Sassy Duck"

Regret Worming In

Heading towards the tall trees in the distance
I start to have a feeling in the pit of my stomach
It’s a feeling I couldn't seem to ignore…hunger
So I headed to the ground to rectify this
I swoop in by a nice tree in what looks to be a park where tons of families are gathered
One kid attempts to throw bread at me a moment after I land
It hits me in the head, I give a warning “Quack” and fly under a nearby picnic table
It had just freshly rained as I flew through the night
The mud splashed against my front feathers leaving me flicking my beak against myself vigorously
Soon after I got the most of it off, my precious breakfast was served
Fresh earthworms for the taking, unknowingly making my beak water
I gobbled up at least 20 before making my way to another nearby tree

I plopped myself down and was soon greeted by a flock
I became uneasy, an overwhelming blanket of emotion showered me
They soon asked me my name and where my flock was
I became sweaty as I saw my brothers and sisters, mother and father staring at me in the distance
They were teaching us how to survive and I remember going off on my own led by my own curiosities
When the creature I was inquiring about scurried into the woods, I came back to where my family had been
To my surprise they had gone, a much larger orange creature lay before me, snarling
Only feathers remained as I flew away as fast as I could
I now see the other ducks staring at me as tears once again were flowing from my eyes
All I could utter under my beak was “Gone”

Flocked In

They don’t ever prepare you for when life gets tough to bare
It’s something a lot of times one must learn themselves
With the pain and loss that I carry, I must not let it weigh these wings down
The air rushing against my face reminds me of the invigoration of freedom
I am not my past but my future
You always look ahead when flying, never back
There’s a whole lot of pride I find deep in my soul looking around at myself and the others
There’s nothing like feeling I have earned my spot and we could not be whole without me
I have a purpose, I am a piece of this flock and we must all work together
The perfect V shape as we sharply cut through the sky with our beaks held high

Birds of a Feather

A longing feeling fills my heart
I lean over to my love who lay cuddled up in the grass next to me
This is very new, as I never believed I should feel this level of happiness
He has taught me the love I truly feel I deserve

Always giving me the first bite
Always flocking my feathers that stick up on my left side
Always waddling beside me at just the right pace
Soon one stary cool night we entertained the big next step

Ruffled feathers swirled around us as our bodies intertwined
Your river-scented musk fills the air
Feeling the pressure inside of me until we both beautifully pop
I had never had such a smooth flight to a destination in my life
