Amy Chatterjee Poem
"No, not again", you said
Your heart has been bruised
One too many times
I wait patiently
With a first aid kit and a smile
"That's fine I'll fix it
As long as you hold mine"
"I'm just a benchwarmer
You better head home"
Oh God, little did you know
I'd run a mile
So you don't have to sit alone
I've never been a runner
But for you I would
Just give me a call
Cause I even have a crush
On the shape of your name on my phone
I lose my voice cheering for you
On your bad days and your good
"I'll stay" I say "You don't have to sit alone"
And to tell you, I don't think I ever could
So I whisper under my breath
"You're my idea of home"
You move your hand away
With no idea how a little flinch
Could ever shatter a heart
"They're too cold to hold", you say
Of course I don't mind
Cause I'd let you freeze my heart
Even break it into bits
Over a thousand times
In storm, snow and drought
To sit beside you, I ask for nothing more
All I wanted was to hold your hand
Didn't know it was too much to ask for
