Viet Nam A Love Song

Too far across the sea
in a place I'd rather not be,
on the winds of war ...
another day slips into forever.

I keep my head low,
pray Charlie doesn't know;
once again I'm running for cover.
The napalm flames get higher,
like an effigy on fire ...
burning down my high school memories.

I wonder if love still resides
in the places we used to hide,
or have they disappeared
into a jungle another world away.

The rapid beating of my heart
means another fire-fight is about to start;
the M16's fire through the dark
like a semi-automatic snare drum.

Another battle has begun
“Screw this hell hole” rolls of my tongue;
this is no way to treat any mother's son …

Today have I learned what it means to die?
As mortar leaves the sky ...
the enemy have given their reply;
I listen to other men die
seems life all around me is failing.

If I ever make it home,
I plan never again to roam …

get lost in her forever charms ...
and on the winds of love,
I promise we'll be sailing.

That Spot in Every Ocean

I had seen her beauty a couple places
mornings rising, evenings as it rests
that spot in every ocean
where the sun always looks its best.

Her beauty seemed radiant
it brightened my darkest room
now it lives only in my memories
she left me far too soon.

I placed an urn on the mantle
the room seemed to fade to black
I wept into my only thought
you are never coming back.

I took her off the mantle
then just before the day was done
I let her drift with a westward wind
now she tags along with the sun.

She's found now a couple places
mornings rising, evenings as it rests
that spot in every ocean
she was always meant to look her best.

Autumn Leaves

As I watch autumn leaves fall
all I can do is wonder.....

why have I waited so long
to recognize such beauty,
have I been caught in my own self-deception
achieving meaningless things yesterday?

As I stand and stare speechless,

today has become a true spectacle,
I'm reminded of beautiful memories
of friendship now in the air.

I have come to recognize
something missing deep in my soul,
from the cascade of colors
that autumn's kaleidoscope brings.

As I stare across a meadow,
at the orange, browns, reds, and yellows,
caught in God's breeze,
like the leaves gently I begin to fly....

 Before autumn leaves
it's nice to see before winter's delivered,
that I've come realize
it's time to place my memories in my heart.

Ghost Ship

Like a ship that's been weathered and worn
her heart didn't survive the turmoil or storm,
all her dreams lay wrecked, shattered, and torn
her love like a ghost that finds itself reborn.

Now sad and alone she sails the silent sea
lost in a dream that's become her immortality,
sailing lost to all she sails on hopelessly
breathing in the thinnest of air internally.

She sails now on a lonely deep blue sea
between the moon and yesterday's reality,
drifting endless in a world of in between
she searches the horizon for a lost dream.

Under the cover of dark clouds at night
she reaches for a shore to add some light,
to free her from her stage of fright
to finally find the love of her life.

On the water under the starry skies
almost silent she whispers a soft sigh,
like a lost angel singing a sad lullaby,
still her dream of love never realized.

Since love's death she waits for its rebirth
aimlessly sailing the seas of her sad earth,
but she only sees another vision of love is gone
again she raises her anchor it's time to move on.
