The Conduit to Compliancy

I slip into a figment of imagination,
I find desire.
A place where I seek validation,
I become a Liar.
Our new human salvation,
I embellish the fire.
Social media: the place we all admire.

So Here We Are

So here we are…
Brought into a world of discrimination and disarray
We are not the keystone but the voussoir
Simply a pebble on the pathway

Because hopefully our kids can figure it out
At least that is how we got here
“Oh, I'm sure someone will come about to resolve our extestential drought”
Unfortunately for us, the path is not clear

But does anyone apart from us understand that?
That the pressure put on us at such a young age
Can actually combat
The very thing they want to assuage.

Maybe no one understands it.
Maybe there’s nothing we can do but acquit.

Call Me Marionette

Call Me Marionette:

Today I exist. I exist for no one, for nothing; I exist. I am not held to or defined by a devotion of any. My allegiances, however strong, have no contract to bear me. I dream of a day when my ambition aligns with the desires and necessities of the world. When my head and heart finally join in a magnificent eclipse. For then, I am a scholar, a student, a teacher, a lover. At my fingertips, the world will sit. Where I am the puppeteer, and the world is my marionette. I have the power to change, innovate, and create. I will make a difference. I will grab the sun and spin it on its axis so that no one will carry the burden of wondering if the sun will rise. I will wake at dawn every morning and push the ocean so the tide and the moon can harmonize. There are no bounds to this desire. Though there is no satisfaction in a world like mine. 7.6 billion people live on earth, and I am one. A grain of sand on the beach where I push the ocean. A single molecule on the sun that I carry. I find that I am not strong enough to carry the sun or to push the ocean. I recall a dream I once had, a dream of greatness in a world of inequality and disarray. A foolish thought to have, for I am inconsequential. I am not held to or defined by a devotion of any. I exist for no one, for nothing; I exist. Today I exist.

I Wish Someone Told Me

I wish someone told me
That the world was worse off than I thought
That things are worse than what you can see

I wish that someone said this is how it is going to be:
Making it in this world is a longshot
And you will likely come up empty

I wish that someone told me
That there are many who are distraught
And many who do not know what it means to be truly free

I wish that someone said this is how it is going to be:
They expect you to fix problems they forgot
Though the things to fix, you cannot see

I wish that someone told me
That there are some things that cannot be taught
And those things define your reality

But how do we sort through this debris?
How do we face this onslaught?
“Well, it’s your job to find the key.”

Error 404

I tell you the truth
I know you want to hear.
You take my youth
But always seem to disappear.

Angles of the Eyes

If I were on my hands and knees
I would see kindness
I would see love
I would see peace

When I am on my feet
I see animosity
I see hatred
I see greed

A Glass of Water

I pour a glass of water.
Then another.
The glasses turn into the Ocean.
Yet you remain, one glass in hand.
And as I jump into the icy water
You remain, one glass in hand.

Greed

Those who wish for everything, discover nothing.
Those who seek the most find the least.
Those who desire recognition learn ignorance.

Those who pursue solidarity obtain peace.

The City of Palms

I am hurt.
Not by you,
by what you didn't do.
I am mad.
Not because of you,
Because of how I felt when I was with you.
I am sad.
Not because I lost you,
Because I lost my dreams with you.
I love you
But I love the idea of you more.

The Giver

When you are constantly giving
And someone is constantly taking
You have to ask yourself
How much do you give before it takes from you?
