Two Cats On a Windowsill

Two Cats On A Windowsill

"Hey, Enya."
"Yes, Tammy."
"Do you see what I see?"
"What do you see Tammy?"
"Things in the air, swirling and looking like they're having so much fun!"
"Oh yes, Tammy, you are watching the dancing of the dead."
"Dead, Enya?"
"Yes, Tammy. The leaves are dead."
"I hope when I'm dead I have that much fun, Enya."
"I hope so too Tammy."

How Do You Mend A Broken Heart

How Do You Mend A Broken Heart
*
I stand by your grave
Hands clasped before me
My breathing shallow
My legs unsteady
I summon every
Ounce of strength
To keep from falling
*
All the days to come
Without you
All the nights to come
Without you
How will my heart
Endure your loss
*
In hospice
We reminisced
You were comforted
By the memories
Of our time together
You were proud of our
Rip-roaring compatibility
And our never going
To bed angry
*
You held my hand
And said
Fall in love again
*
My smile was faint
I said
No woman is interested
In a man with a broken heart
*
With a mischievous smile
You said
She is
When she knows
She is the one
Who can mend it.

An Assault On All That Is Sacred And Beautiful

An Assault On All That Is Sacred And Beautiful
Standing by the canyon rim
The couple embrace
“How beautiful, still”
Are their last words
*
Two old men
With tears in their eyes
Look out over the canyon
Kicking the dirt hard
*
A boy holds tight
His father's hand
As they watch
The flight of an eagle
*
A girl with
Arm around
Her mother's waist
Reads the posted sign
*
The Department of Interior is no more
We apologize on behalf
Of all that was once
Sacred and Beautiful in our World

We Will Tell Each Other Everything

We Will Tell Each Other Everything
*
We will not keep anything from each other
We will not have secrets
We will not lie to each other
We want our friendship to take flight
and soar like an Eagle
*
Hey girl
What boy
Wanna go to the big cities
Ye...aah boy
Wanna go with me girl
Of course silly boy
Cool girl
Hey boy we will go to museums see musical shows
And walk in the park
Yea I'm with you girl
And ball games too boy
Cool girl I'm in the stands with you
*
We will not be afraid to ask questions of each other
We can talk about anything
The sky's the limit
We will have a friendship that is
Keen and heartfelt
*
Hey girl
What boy
I can run the bases faster than you girl
Of course boy you got longer legs
You can start at first base girl
Okay boy now my legs are a little longer...go
*
Wherever we go
We will take photos
The photos will help us
When we travel Memory Lane
*
Let's climb that tree boy
I'm with you girl
I have a bird's eye view boy
Birds have the life girl
*
Hey boy I like to go high on the swings
I'm with ya girl
Hey girl I'm leaning back and looking up
Cool boy I'll do the same
*
We understand the fear and dread
When our world is empty of compassion and love
With every fiber of our being
We want to help others
*
Hey boy you can't keep me up here forever
Oh no girl and what are you going to do about it
Spit I will spit on you boy
Hey girl seesaws are supposed to be fun
*
Our spirited conversations
Will follow college lectures on literature
An admired Directors new film
Attending the new play in town
*
Hey boy do you want me to
Buy you an ice cream soda
Girl is Babe Ruth the greatest
That is a yes boy
*
At the end of the day we are in each other's arms
We yearn to hold on forever and never let go
We will sit and talk about the Cosmos
And making the world a better place
*
Boy you are blowing into the straw
I like making bubbles girl
You are crazy boy
Crazy about you girl
*

War To End All Wars

War To End All Wars
It will be the war
On corporate polluters
The corporate polluters
Who deprive Our Children
Of clean air, clean water and clean food
These corporate polluters
Driven by ego and greed
Are relentless
In their pursuit of profits
To sustain their avaricious
Narcissistic lifestyles
*
Parents and their Children
Will be armed with Love, Courage
And Determination to
Dismantle the laws and policies
Allowing rampant pollution
To harm so many of us
Demand for corporate accountability
Will be heard from 'Sea to Shining Sea'
*
We are on the Edge of Existence
We and Our Children
Will not be pushed
Over the cliff
*
The Love we have for
Our Children
And their future
Will engender
A massive push-back
And a fierce stare-down
Of corporate giants
*
Governments will understand
A Mother's
Intense
Ferocious
Passion
To Save
Protect
Their
Children
The
Future
They
Deserve
*

We Can Be a Light

We Can Be A Light
Sal was sixteen when he committed suicide.
A loving son and brother.
You could count on Sal when you needed to talk and know it was confidential.
Sal was always there with a smile and a vote of confidence in any endeavor you might pursue.
Sal's sense of humor and love for life was contagious and treasured by his family.
Then something happened...
He drowned wearing a cloak of self-loathing.
Sal's dignity and self-worth suffered the slurs of homophobic zealots.
"Guilty of sin. A sin against God and nature.”, they hollered.
Societal prejudice and loathing usurped the love of Sal's family.
Too many bodies are washed ashore from the violent seas of hate.
It doesn't have to be.
The enlightened hearts and minds of each generation must hold sacred the need to establish and maintain Lighthouses of Love and Respect.
So that...
When a lonely, frightened Child of God sees the beam of light he or she will know, that they are not alone and that Compassion and Empathy will be waiting for them on the shore.

Toddlers Storm The Capitol

Toddlers Storm The Capitol
*
Sitting on the beach
I watch and listen
To the ocean waves
Caress the shore
*
The Beauty of Nature
Keeps me steadfast in my
Fervent Prayer for Redemption
*
I beseech You
To touch the
Hearts and Souls
Of the burgeoning leaders
In commerce and government
*
Enlighten them to a world
Where greed will destroy
All we treasure
*
Let the toddlers of our world
Keeping their legs wide apart
Hesitant between each step
Jerking from side to side
Walk to the capitals
And stage a massive sit-down
Where no one moves
Where we all watch
*
As the toddler sit-down
Gloriously demonstrates
Our innate desire and will to keep
The future healthy and viable
*

Leave It All Behind II

Leave It All Behind II
Humans are Apes
Looking a bit different
(A lot of character)
From the way we look now
*
Are to go through
So many changes
Physical Cognitive Emotional
*
So many challenges
Language Social Interactions
Maintaining of Traditions
Being of the Nomadic Persuasion
(Mom Dad we have to move again Gee Whiz)
*
Coping with Seasonal Weather
Water Depletion Crop Failure
*
Contending with Human and Animal Predators
*
We also have immense Curiosity
Which liven things up

Love Letter

Love Letter
This is my love letter
To a beautiful woman
I hardly know
I do know from observing
Her interaction with others
She is smart and compassionate
She has chosen a profession
Helping folks on the edge of darkness
Extremely vulnerable
Her empathy helps us feel comfortable
Talking about
Our hallucinations
Our delusions
Voices inside our head
When I first met her
I talked about my illness
The impact it was having
On my life
Being scared
She assured me
I was getting the best care
The staff will do everything
Possible to allay my fears
She suggested I keep a journal
Subsequent visits were spent
Going over what I had written
I became more self-aware
Her questions filled me with insight
Her eye-contact
Made me feel
Important
I am Somebody
I admire her diligence and fortitude
In asking tough questions
Her intuition is graced
With glorious spirit.
Every time I see her,
Every time I think of her,
My heart breaks.
When the medications
Are at their full efficacy
I consider making overtures
I consider flirting with you
In my daydreams
I make love to you
I am in heaven
I love your perfume
I think of our going on a date
We talk about our childhoods
I ask you to tell me
Your favorite things
I tell her mine.
I ask her if
Sometimes
She gets really scared
She will tell me
We all get scared
For different reasons
She will tell me
Life is rich
With simplicity and complexity.
She will tell me
Humor is there
When we need it
She will tell me
To hold on to my secrets
To save them
For the right person
She will instruct me
In the intricacies of our minds
And tell me
Only trusting conversations can
Unravel the mind's beauty
I imagine where our love
Can take us
I am full of joy
Hikes in the wilderness with the
Occasional sightings of wildlife
Canoeing on the lake
While the Sunsets
Amusement park rides
Having us screaming and laughing
The carousel where we sit
In the carriage my arm is
Around your shoulder
Spring walks in the park
The sweet fragrance
Of flowers
Days and nights visiting museums
Attending operas
Enjoying classical music concerts
Going to the theater for plays or musicals
Many a night dinner and a movie
Every fiber of my being
Wants us to be a couple
And so I dream.
I dream of our being in bed
Talking about the great afternoon
In the park where we threw bits of bread
To the ducks gliding along the lake water
I dream of waking up
To the delicious smell of coffee
And hear you in the kitchen
Getting breakfast ready
I dream of planning our day
Leaving so much to serendipity
Every day one of us says something
We go from there
Reincarnation
Finding each other
The After Life
You just can't get over those Pearly Gates
Aliens
Do they prefer
“Close Encounters of the Third Kind”
Or “E.T.”.
This letter is my beacon of light
Hoping the beam will catch your spirit
I will never forget the day we met
I saw you for the angel you are

Leave It All Behind I

Leave It All Behind I
I am telling everyone reading this,
Especially the children
I love them
I am worried
I am alone
I am afraid
I do not want to give up
I do not want any of us to give up
Our home is to be defended
I would like you to
Understand why I am afraid
*
Many of us believe
Evolution gave Life
We and our fellow Species
Fauna and Flora Evolved
How amazing to learn
Of the Origin
Of Life On Earth
More than 3 billion years ago
The progression of
One stage succeeding another
Evolving, diverging through time
And then, after a long while,
We Are
*
Now one can say
The Dawn of Humans
315,000 years ago was a
Revolution of Evolution
(to be continued)
