Ashley Kifworo Poem
I woke up bright and early today
Everything will be okay
First, I ate breakfast
and hoped that I didn’t choke
Next, I took a soothing shower
hoping that we’d have stable power
After wearing my best outfit
I hoped my neighbour wouldn’t throw a fit
I took my keys from the table and my hands began to shake
Were my clothes suitable for the weather?
My resolve started to break
I walked to the door
But began to pace in front of it
When I couldn’t take it anymore
I curled up into a ball
I finally calmed but the sun was down
I stood up and walked to bed
Maybe next time I’ll have more luck

Ashley Kifworo Poem
Only the unlucky know him
They’ve heard his knock
been blinded by his warm smile
He asks for a dance
no one has ever missed the chance
As they move life is but a fleeting thought
Some are happy,
most are afraid,
but all will follow him

Ashley Kifworo Poem
Some nights I dream of an empty home
Nothing from how it was before has changed
I know to expect monsters
so I board up the windows and lock the doors
I find a place to hide
Though I have the tools to fight
Every time I've tried more appear
Then there's the anticipation
A fear that I'll be found and devoured

Ashley Kifworo Poem
Sometimes I fear that this is all my life will be
That I'll always be alone because I don't believe anyone would choose me
My only friends are the words I love so much
and the dreams that feel real enough to touch
But no matter how much I don't want to wake
All my dreams will come to an end

Ashley Kifworo Poem
My world moves parallel to yours
Try as I might I cannot reach you
I may understand from a vantage point
But I’ll forever wonder
Try as you might you’ll never reach me
You may only imagine
But you’ll try to help anyway
And that may be enough

Ashley Kifworo Poem
I've always loved to read
I picked it up to drown everything out
I let my mind wander to new lands
while they revelled in my silence
I've always longed to be a part of something
when I learnt that I was the odd one out
I planned what I would say
once they could finally see me
Now I fear to hold on to the hope
that my world is only temporary
that I'll be perceived
that I am real

Ashley Kifworo Poem
I haven’t left my house in days
With everything else I’ve tried the anxiety still lingers
My dreams wound me and my nightmares mock me
Was it never meant to be?
My friends stopped asking for me when I disappeared for months on end
It’s too late now
My supplies are running out
I’ll need to face the sun
