Elisha Hymon-Kilpatrick Poem
Embrace The Morning
Thank you, God, for waking me up this morning
Thank you, God, for sending me on my way
Thank you, God, for being generous enough
To let me live another day
Thank you, God, for welcoming me
With open arms
Thank you, God, for being my security
And protecting me from harm
Thank you, God, for walking with me
In every step I take
Thank you, God, for forgiving me
For all the sins I've made
Thank you, God, for giving to me
The respect and dignity that I now own
Thank you, God, for giving me such wonderful parents
Who would put my needs before their own
Thank you, God, for giving me such remarkable brothers
Who love me no matter what
Thank you, God, for giving me such caring friends
Who I can also trust
Thank you, God, for making me realize
For making me see
That even though I haven't found him yet
There's someone out there for me

Elisha Hymon-Kilpatrick Poem
Quest For Life
I‘m on the road to Hell
Yet Heaven is just a glimpse away
I'm fighting a battle to win
Yet I'm losing everyday
God, I'm looking for direction
A safe haven from the storm
A man, a woman, with outstretched arms
To embrace me and keep me warm
I'm looking for a way out
A place I can run away to
When my problems and the world’s get to be too much
And my chances for survival is few
I'm looking for a love
I can't live without
Someone I wouldn’t mind spending the rest of my life with
Someone I could write a book about
I'm looking for a life
With limitless boundaries
I want to look into the eyes of the Devil
And let him see the Hell I see
I’m looking for time
For it goes so fast
I'm looking for that perfect moment
That lives forever in the present and past
I'm looking for words
That won't cut as deep as a knife
I'm looking for completeness
I'm looking for my quest for life

Elisha Hymon-Kilpatrick Poem
The Idiot
You think I’m insecure
With all my rings, and all those things
But what you don’t see
Is a girl who's trying to be herself
I'm just trying to be me
You open up your eyes to a world
Where nothing is what it seems
But what you don’t see
Is nobody’s perfect, we’re only human beings
You look at me like I’m some trash
That in this world, I just don’t belong
But what you don’t see is
The more hypocritical you are,
The more you become wrong
Baby, you’re only making me strong
In a world full of hate and prejudice
I know how to hold my head up high
But can you? Ms. Conceited
Or do you hide behind a mask and live in a lie?
What the hell is wrong with you?
Nobody's superhuman and neither are you
Don’t you know you can’t just go around talking about people?
Honey, you’re not bullet proof!
Say the wrong thing to the wrong person
Who's not up to taking your crap
You keep on opening your big mouth like that
You might find yourself having a mishap
What you getting an attitude for?
I’m telling this to you straight
Better now than later down the road
When it’ll really be too late
But you know what? I don’t care what you do with your life
You go ahead and have your little fun
But don’t come back in my face talking all that nonsense
Cause, baby, I’m not the one!

Elisha Hymon-Kilpatrick Poem
Coward
Talk about people behind their backs
Instead of in front of their faces
Spend all your time in a lonely place
Searching for hiding places
Too scared to stand up for yourself
Too proud to depend on others
Too bold to stand beside other people
Too independent to even claim your own brothers
Smile in their face, but laugh behind their backs
Is the way you go on living
Mad if people don’t forgive you with the quickness
Knowing you yourself isn't the least bit forgiving
Too narrow-minded to consider other people's feelings
Too stubborn to admit when you take things too far
Too stupid to think you’re God’s gift to the world
When a coward is what you really are

Elisha Hymon-Kilpatrick Poem
Sometimes
Sometimes, it’s what you don’t say
That makes you outspoken
What you don’t do
That makes you outdone
What you don’t despise
That makes you strong
What you don’t fear
That makes you weak
What you don’t create
That makes you creative
What you don’t ignore
That makes you compatible
And sometimes, it’s not your opinion
That makes all the difference in the world

Elisha Hymon-Kilpatrick Poem
He says he loves her
She says he doesn’t
He says he’ll always be there for her
She says he won’t
He adores her
She despises him
He sees his future in her eyes
She sees the Devil in disguise
He tells her he loves her
She tells him “diddo”
He says shes nothing less than beautiful
She says “yes, I know”
He tries his best to keep her secure
She tries her best to push him away
He tries his best to prove that she’s special
She tries her best to show she doesn’t care
He tries his best to love her like no other
She tries her best to love him like a brother
He loves her and doesn’t care who knows it
She loves him but just don’t know how to show it
He’s never been in a relationship
She’s never been in one this deep
He’s not afraid to show his feelings
She's too afraid to speak her mind
He wants to spend the rest of his life with her
She wants to make it last this time

Elisha Hymon-Kilpatrick Poem
When will it rain?
Rush to the river
Igloos forming
Throughout summer
Enter the main stage
Remain there and reminisce

Elisha Hymon-Kilpatrick Poem
The glory of the day
Was in her face
The glory of the night
Shone in her eyes
Night and day
Was the same to her
All around her were devastating cries
She couldn't escape them
She didn't know how
She couldn't forsake them
She didn't know why
Maybe it was because
Out of all the depression
She too heard her own cries
