Ellen Mecca Poem
Ear splitting silence
Everything stops with a halt
The rattle and hum cease
I lay there
Listening to the blood rushing through my ears and veins
I live on the edge of a farm field
Pitch black
No wind to blow
Without the din
How am I to sleep

Ellen Mecca Poem
The golden light of four o' clock comes fast
Country comfort and camera in hand
Orange, yellow, red, brown, pumpkins all around
The hues, the colors, a feast for the eyes
Hot coffee, creamy and smooth, warm to the bones
The golden light of four o' clock comes fast
Apple picking, pumpkin pie, eating snacks
Trick or treat candy galore in my sack
Cornstalks, corn mazes, hot apple cider
A cornucopia of many things
The golden light of four o' clock comes fast
Sharing your bounty, a time to give thanks
Thanksgiving harvest, gratitude abounds
Sweaters, scarves, flannel shirts, warm cozy socks
Crocheting blankets and hats and mittens
The golden light of four o' clock comes fast

I see blindly life
Unfolding before my eyes
In brilliant color

Ellen Mecca Poem
In a badger trap
Found with peanut butter
Contented to be nursed back to health
And sleep on the chair
Next to the dog

If you're retired
Stop wasting my gosh darn time
And get off the road!

Ellen Mecca Poem
Sunray
Sunbeam
Shining light of limitless love
You are a glowing beacon on a cold, dark night
Bright one
Torch of kindness, empathy and creativity
You have the strength of medieval times
Full of courage, fortitude and power
St. Elmo's fire burns within
Luminous electricity
Emitting from every pore
Sometimes blinding light
Thus are you
A lamp to guide my way
Never eclipsed by storms or weather
Radiating, dazzling, glimmering, twinkling
Sparkling from head to toe

Ellen Mecca Poem
Absolutely
Unfettered
Goodness
Undaunted by the eventual arrival of fall
Scrappy summer month hanging on
Thank you August

Ellen Mecca Poem
You were a pain in the ass in life
You are a pain in the ass in death
I still resent you for causing so much pain to the people I love
Yet how to be mad at someone with mental illness?
No one wants to talk about it
