Jettisoning Cargo

The sea rose up to kiss the sky

crashed down upon the ship

then tossed it high

like some baby with a new toy.

The slaves emerged blinking

in the harsh light on deck

Their chains for ever linking

their ultimate fate.

Suddenly the chain pulled tight

and sliding and screaming

The slaves without a fight

slipped into their watery grave .

So who is to blame

for this merciless deed?

Just a false insurance claim

paid for those lost at sea!

Based upon the true story of slave traders drowning their slaves. In order to claim the
insurance that could only be paid out for those lost at sea. As dramatised in Turner's
painting of a slave ship.

Red Light District

Curbside romance

Picture in a magazine
Leering at a beauty queen
Short shirts and dirty mack’s
Waiting for red light perhaps
A furtive glance
Curbside romance

Fake smiles through
Red violent lips
Faded faces worn
By times constant grip

High heeled whores
Strut like flamingos
On their way
To another nights work

Woman in a window
Peering down the street and
Meat in a butchers shop
Waiting to be eaten

Internal musing

Requiem For the 20th Century

Fist thrust aagainst straight arm

As hammer and bayonet clash

above the crying child

Once a Small Boy

Once a small boy

Stood listening

On a Bridge to an island

To a bird in a tree

With a song in its head

Now I stand

Staring at

A bordered up Bridge to

A bare button island

And a bird that's just dead

with a stone in its head.

Talking of Selsey

Selsey, a glistening jewel by the sea speak to me!
Tell me of the treasures, buried in your beaches
talk of the fishing boats, bolstered by the sea.
Whisper of the stony multitude rimming your waters

wail fruitless against the incessant wind
at all the lost fisherfolk picked from life's tree
shout loudly over the waves, beating on the shore
to try and make a mark against nature's sins

Now speak softly of the balmy sunny days
with wheeling children playing on the sands
speak no more of your turbulent past
forget the heart break and move on

My Life

MY LIFE

My life is regimented by the constant unnerving beat

Of the angel on my back.

She is my constant companion.

Her neck, intertwined with mine.

If she falters

I will die

We are intimately attached.

However, far from in love

It is indeed a love hate relationship

I listen to her every breath.

While she totally ignores me

I try every move to remove her

But like a limpet for life

She claws desperately on to my soul!

The Onset of Madness

The Onset of madness

What demons lurk in waiting
beyond my hope of knowing
Why is my TV talking
Whispering slyly to me
As my anxiety carries on growing.

I surface from nightmares sweating
then plunge back into stunned confusion.
Angry lights flickering in my eyes
That only I can see
in life' s ever shifting illusion

I grasp in vain for reality
 but instead claw only darkness.
strain to hear the constant voices
plotting my downfall next door
O God! My head is a mess!

Will I ever escape the tentacles
squirming over my face
silence the voices and TV' s opinions
snuff out the lights , illuminate darkness
and rejoin the human race.

Afghanistan Fourth Time Lucky?

Afghanistan - fourth time lucky !?
Every day on the news.
(Just before the funny bit)
Soldiers names are scrawled on the grim roll call

Yet in centuries past
Every day in the paper.
Strangely familiar names were recalled.

When will we learn history' s lesson
and stop seeing young lives.
Rubbed out by remote control.

How can we carry on up the Khyber pass.
Fight again, Warriors who live for war.
To killing, then hiding, then killing anew.

Why can’t we learn
The Russian’s lesson
And stop banging our heads on the wall !

Internal Ramblings

Internal musing

Who knows in the end things may become better
. In a gradual, two steps forward and
one sep back kind of way life for humans may get better
but then again by the time that
happens we may well be on our own

A Light In the Darkness

A light in the darkness

How hard it is

To strive

For the unreachable peak

To stay calm

And let the words flow.

To hold steady

In the face of critics storm

And deliver

From the depths

That one eruption

That changes the world.
