Life

Love isn’t love if you don’t fight for it
But pain isn’t pain if you ain’t hurting
Life isn’t life unless you live it
Understand and heed my words
Light isn’t light if it doesn’t blind you
Fear isn’t fear if it doesn’t scare you
A heart isn’t a heart if it doesn’t beat
Understand and heed my words
Stars aren’t stars if they don’t burn
Sores aren’t sores if they don’t bleed
You will understand you will heed my words
Because knowledge is a gift
Imperfection and insecurities
They all bind us together
Love and hate, life and death
That what makes it forever
Only time can ever tell
Tell us to believe
Understand my words
My words you shall heed
Breath isn’t breath without air
Lungs aren’t lungs without breath
A body isn’t a body without organs
And a life isn’t a life without everything in between
Cupid can’t be Cupid without wings
And a duck can’t be a duck without a beak
Your body can’t have posture without a spine
You can’t learn without a brain
Stars aren’t stars if they don’t burn
Sores aren’t sores if they don’t bleed
You will understand you will heed my words
Because knowledge is a gift
Imperfection and insecurities
They all bind us together
Love and hate, life and death
That what makes it forever
Only time can ever tell
Tell us to believe
Understand my words
My words you shall heed
Understand and heed my words
This world you shall believe

in love with a ghost

Can you really love someone you can’t see?
A brush of wind that flows throughout your hair.
Can you really see something that’s not there?
The fiddle of the strings hanging off an old shirt.
Can you really love without getting hurt?
The sounds of music that drifts through the breeze.
The speckle of light that sits on the seas.
Do you really think of me as more than a host?
So, I hate to admit, I think I’m in love with a ghost…

Lost

You’re just a ghost
I can’t listen to your voice
But where did you go
No, I can’t hear a noise
These words in my head screaming out your name
Why did you go and leave me burdened by your name?
Even if you have gone away
I still carry the burden of your name
It’s heavy on my chest
Slowing me down as I try to run
The weight is hurting my head
Spinning and throbbing like know tomorrow
As the little voices in my head scream out your name
Wait…

Scattered Eyes

Her eyes wandered across the room
She was looking for him
But she couldn’t see him
Where was he?
Did he walk away again?
Leaving her to cry into her own shoulder
To drive herself home
To sleep with her face in her pillow, not his

I can’t let this happen
Not again
I will fall apart
The single cup of dried coffee in my sink will turn into a thousand more to wash up
The plates in the rack will multiply and the task will grow harder
I will procrastinate the thought of showering
I will cancel plans with my very few friends
I will want it all to end
Under the light of the star in the sky
Under the pressure of scattered eyes

The Bus

The bus, the bus was waiting for me
Waiting, and yet I still didn’t want it to come
The steps were too steep, and the kids were always screaming or laughing
The wheels were always covered in mud, but how?
They never ventured off the road to school and home again
Why, why are the windows tinted so much
That only outwards you can see, can tell if they are staring
I always try to sit alone, but the seats are always taken eventually
They always whisper behind me, and I always listen as best as is good
The seats always embody a scar or stain, never to fade
The walkways are always full of bags, you have to trek carefully
I don’t like the bus, and I don’t think it likes me

Growing Pains

It felt like yesterday that we were riding our bikes down our empty street
The streets we ruled, the streets we got to keep
As if tomorrow was never going to come
The sun would grow old above us as we watched on for the start of our lives
The temperature rising at ever heave of your chest
The willows dancing before us, putting on their best show
The sounds of the birds echoing our names, a calling
A warning that no matter what to happen, the promise would be kept
You promised to love me in depth, and never leave me
To hold my hand when I was cold in the august months
And you promised to talk to my dad and explain to him why I was sad
And to never complain about our troubles to each other, because we knew how we felt
We could feel the energy exploding from our skin
We knew not to speak, but only hear the sounds, the silence from our lips
But the birds warning did not help you
Because today is the third day you haven’t showed up to our special spot when we are feeling down
I thought you could feel it, feel that my mum died, feel the sadness
I thought you would know I needed you to hear, hear the silence as my sobs filled the air
I thought you cared about me, I thought you could feel my tense emotions
I thought… I thought you loved me
But now I am left to grow old with the daily sun
To watch the willows put on a show, without someone to share my popcorn with
To listen to the birds, slow down their warnings, moving on to the next problem
They no longer call your name, you no longer listen to their warnings
You left me alone in a spot I thought I could call home
I’m living in vain
I listen to the birds, calling in the rain
But you left, and that’s all a part of growing pains

This Love

This love.
What is with this love?
What is love?
Why is love?

Love is pain.
Love is growth.
Love is like coming how from a long day and getting the greatest surprise of your life.
It’s like rain for a farmer.
Like food to a hungry child.
Like a home.

Love is for the blessed.
Love is for the worthy.
Love is because.
Because of hope.
Because of strength
Because of life.
Without love, what must we believe in?

This love.
What is this love?
This love is a war.
Why?
Because he doesn’t care.
He doesn’t love me.
He doesn’t even know what love is.
Why?
I don’t know.
This love

You held the knife

You held the knife.
All along I thought it was fine because you held the knife
But apparently everything was wrong
I was wrong
Wrong about you and all that I thought you could be
I thought I could trust you.
But no.
You held the knife facing me
Waiting for your chance
Holding the handle with all you might
As it sits in my back
It was always her
Why couldn’t it be me?
Am I that bad? Tell me
Why am I always 2nd place?
At least I made 2nd place with you…

Church Pew Stories

Yesterday, I was talking to the church pews.
Asking them about the stories they hold
They told far and wide they heard thing.
That just can’t be told.

They told me the depths.
The truths that they hear.
The day that had to come
They say is almost here.

The church pews told me,
No matter what they say.
I have to carry on.
To continue on my way

Even as the night falls
The sky is always bright.
The church pew stories.
Stay safe with me tonight.
