On Writing Poetry

With one hand behind my back
I slash and stalk
With deft steps and careful tack
I counter and block

I slash and stalk
My foe
I counter and block
Searching for the final blow

My foe
Offers no complaint to
Searching for the final blow
And bares its throat on cue

Offers no complaint to
An ending soon to come
And bares its throat on cue
To put an end to this scrum

An ending soon to come
I counter and block
To put an end to this scrum
I slash and stalk

Madness Lives Here

Welcome Honored Guest
In here
they use special jackets
to hug us tight

in here
they help us eat
and make sure
our friends play fair

but Honored Guest
we remember
how to play
with no rules

so we wait
for the time
when a friend will let us free
out into the night

they think us mad
but there is one
out in the night
cloaked in fear

one who would not hug us
one who would not play fair
one who would hurt us
for having a laugh or a joke

Christmas Quintain 2022

Tis that season yet again
When the world did receive
A person free from sin
A babe sent not to deceive
But take us as we are into relieve

When the world seeks slumber
And the long darkness does descend
Into that still night, we lumber
Bearing the fire of hope without end
And the joy of life to all a dear friend

So come together this season
And celebrate the true gift given
A soul without treason
A sacrifice driven
To ensure all are forgiven

Beyond Reach

She was there
a dream often
glimpsed
for a moment
just upon the brink
of waking

She was there
a moment
where the light
and waves
dance then
fall away

She was there
a love made real
a hope made manifest
a wish come true
then gone
beyond reach

Christmas Gift

Christmas time has come
And all under the sun
Rise to give thanks for the gift given
A savior straight from heaven

But the savior walks nowhere
Among the proud and fair
He brings hope and mirth
To the unloved with no hearth

Tis not for you
That this season comes due
But for the forgotten
And fates made rotten
