Lary Houston Poem
With my heart wide open
I wait for you to appear.
I'm tired of being all alone
as I face another year.
I have a lot of love to give
I've stored up through the years.
Waiting for you to find me
and dry up all these tears.
I know somewhere there has to be
a heart with feelings like mine.
A heart that's crying out for love
the good, old fashioned kind.

Lary Houston Poem
My feet are so weary
from this long and rough road.
My back's bent and aching
from carrying this load.
But I'm almost home now
and my spirits are singing.
Not too much longer
welcome bells will be ringing.
Friends will come gather
to welcome me there.
and my Dear, Sweet, Savior
will show me to my chair.
I'll place my last burden
on the ground at His feet.
My tears will be flowing,
but, Oh, they'll be sweet.
Then I'll see all my old friends
who have gone on before
and together we'll gather
to wait for some more.

Lary Houston Poem
As Peter and Andrew were called to fish
in the lake of souls of men.
So too are we called to cast the net
just the same as it was back then.
Will your life be a beacon to guide someone
to a home in the sweet by and by;
or will you be the one to drag someone down
cause a spirit to wither and die?
Someone is watching whatever you do
you are never entirely alone.
Will you be rewarded for showing the way;
or condemned at the Great Judgment Throne?

Lary Houston Poem
Show me thy way, Lord
Direct my every step.
Guide me each day, Lord.
I am nothing without your help.
Keep my paths straight, Lord.
That I may never stray.
Hold tight to my hand, Lord.
By night and by day.
Let nothing I say, Lord,
ever disgrace your name.
Let nothing I do, Lord,
ever make you ashamed.
For without your love, Lord,
I'd be buried in sin.
You paid the price, Lord,
so satan can't win..

Lary Houston Poem
I see your face and my heart thunders
pulse quickening, tongue tied
should I speak? tell how I feel?
but you would just laugh
i know you would laugh
and i would feel even more foolish
hurt more than now
should i chance it?
better not.

Lary Houston Poem
(song poem set to the music of "Long Haired Country Boy", by Charlie Daniels)
Some people say I'm fanatical
just howling at the moon,
'cause I praise God in the morning
worship Him in the afternoon.
Kind of like the old Apostle Paul
I love to go around giving praise.
I may not have much material wealth,
but I know that my soul is saved.
and I'm not asking this world for nothing,
just praising God up on His throne.
If you don't know what I'm saying
you need to fall on your knees and make my God your own.
There's the preacher man talking on t.v.
he don't say nothing about the cross,
but he wants me to send a donation
because money is his boss.
Tells me to just be a good man
and support his ministry,
guess he forgot about Jesus
and how He died for you and me.
and I'm not asking this world for nothing
just praising God up on His throne.
and if you still don't know what I'm saying,
you better fall on your knees and make my God your own.
Someday Jesus is coming back
and then where will you stand?
Will He tell you come on in
or say you're the devil's man?
You better get yourself together
and make your choice today.
You can either follow Jesus
or throw your life away.
One way leads to heaven
and eternal life up above.
The other leads to destruction
if you reject God's love.
and I'm not asking this world for nothing.
Just praising God up on His throne.
And if you still don't know what I'm saying
you need to fall on your knees and make my God your own.

Lary Houston Poem
I know you're out there somewhere.
I pray someday we'll meet.
Maybe down some country lane
or a busy city street.
I'm not looking for a servant.
I can take care of myself.
I'm not looking for a barbie doll
to place upon a shelf.
I don't need someone to lead me
or to follow far behind.
I need someone to walk beside me,
someone who longs to find...
...the perfect combination
of love, of life, of dreams.
and walk the twisting path of life
like a smoothly flowing stream.

Lary Houston Poem
In my idea of heaven
there would be rolling open plain;
with rich luxurious grasses
kissed by a gentle rain.
The perfect campsite every evening
with water cool and sweet
and a nice soft pair of moccasins
to soothe my tired old feet.
And sunrise every morning
would be so bright and fair;
I'd linger over morning coffee
just breathing in the air.
I'd saddle up my faithful horse
and he'd be eager to go.
Why, I wouldn't need to reign him
'cause he'd already know.
The trail would be familiar
for I'd ridden it many times
while reading in the Good Book
laid out plainly on each line.
For once I crossed those far blue mountains
I'd finally be coming home;
where my Savior waits to greet me
beneath God's Great White Throne.

Lary Houston Poem
i awake to yet another day
why am i here
the sun rises
through a dark glass
i see strange shapes
twisting, gone
what madness this is.

Lary Houston Poem
Now I live out in the country
and thought I'd heard everything,
but there ain't nothing half as pretty
as Allison when she sings.
Allison Kraus is a pretty little thing
and right pleasing to the eye,
but when she cuts loose a singing
the angels listen and sigh.
Her voice is like a gentle breeze
through the pines on a summer night;
soothing all your cares away
and making everything alright.
Someday when I reach heaven
I'm quite sure she'll be there, too
"cause I know God loves her singing
just the same as me and you.
