Lasting Treasure

Lasting Treasure (2/11/23)

Lord, in this Bread
I see Thy Face
Bread that’s not bread
Sight of which, the only trace

O Jesus, Your countenance
With radiance shines
Garment of white
This beauty, Thine

Highest Priest, adorned in glory
Red stole, Your mercy reminds us of
Your Body and Blood always given
On Your altars from Above

Your peace streams forth
From Your welcoming smile
Pulling us to You to
Love You and stay a while

Your heart of gold
Your perfect will
Draws me further in
To be closer still

O loving Host
Christ, not bread
Keep hold of me
That on my final bed

This time spent aching
For You eternally
Be granted to Your servant
Lowly though I be

Each moment I crave more
Though treasure these moments, I do
Break my chains of sin
My lasting Treasure be You

From the Couch

From the Couch (3/7/23)

From the couch
I see all
When they stand
And when they fall

I lean back
On the couch
Change to chill
From a grouch

From the couch
I give orders
School, food intake
Govern borders

Is my voice
Heard from couch?
Does it carry
As I slouch?

From the couch
I’m no queen
Life carries on
Chaos unseen

They guide their day
While on couch
I do not move
I but crouch

From the couch
Fights continue
Despite my calls
Disorder ensues

Tiredness prevents me
Leave the couch
Ask my creatures
They can vouch

To the couch
I seem tall
As queen so stands
So queen falls

My Reason To Believe

What but as bread, This appears to be
Is You, Lord, it’s truly Thee
It is You, Lord, I now receive
This is true, not just because I believe

My belief cannot create
Can’t sew a seed, give man a mate
Can’t fashion out of dust
One who knows You, merciful and just

Alone, I am capable of but sin
Despite this belief I hold within
No, my belief doth not make You to be
Nor do You exist because You, I see

To You alone this glory belongs
To be praised in all earthly songs
It is You Who instills this Faith in me
You, Who inspires my will to believe

Rain

Rain envelops tree
As seasons change, so do leaves
Root remains the same

Honored Bread

Honored Bread (3/6/23)

O honored bread
‘Pon table, blessed
To become the Christ
Who withstood our test
In moment’s word
Our Lord, confessed
Priest’s own hand
Holds belov’d Guest

Once but mere bread
From earthen tomb
Hail we, our King
From Heaven’s womb
O Bread of Life
Our dear Groom
You cause our hearts
To make You room

Once but mere bread
Which God has blessed
You’re now the Christ
Underwent our test
In moment’s word
Who we confessed
By High Priest’s will
Become beloved Guest

This Be Faith

This Be Faith (2/11/23)

When I feel nothing
Yet know He’s there
This be faith
To not despair

To see the Bread
Which be Him now
To turn to Him
This faith is how

I receive Him, then
And feel no change
To not expect it
Or think it strange

To remember
In silent trust
With His grace
Endure, I must

Til the end
When all’s revealed
And yearning soul
Be filled and healed

This be Faith
Can’t claim my own
This gift of Christ
And His alone

This, not feeling,
But trust and love
THIS be faith
In God Above

My Flesh and Blood

“I AM life’s Bread,”
The Lord, Jesus, said
He never faltered
Words ne’er altered
“I AM the Way.”
They turned away
Couldn’t bear the thought
Of what He taught
“Eat My Flesh, drink My Blood.”
Yet no one could
It was the law
There was no flaw
This new teaching
Seemed to be breaching
What they always knew
Obeyed as a Jew
They couldn’t see
This was He
Who gave this Word
They’d always heard
Who made the change
That seemed so strange
“Eat My Flesh, drink My Blood.”
They couldn’t see this was good
New Covenant to bring them to
The very same God, Who
Willed from the beginning
Despite our sinning
For all to come to be
With Him eternally
That He gave His Flesh and Blood
On that holy wood
By His death on the Cross
We gained from His loss
The very Life of His
In the Holy Eucharist
His Flesh for me to eat
For it is just and meet
His Precious Blood outpoured
To be worshipped and adored
For only by the merits of He
Could we enjoy Heaven’s eternity
Since by our grievous fault
We closed the Heav’nly vault
He made for us a new way
By life-giving words He did say
“This is My Body, this is my Blood”
Take and eat, take and drink as you should
