The Time Stops

Time froze for a second,
But life didn't come to an end.
People just stopped at their places,
Capturing their moments was me
Before time races.

Mom stopped with a sudden jerk,
Who could not continue with her unending household work.
Dad was surrounded by a bunch of papers,
Who had witnessed all of life's flavours and favours.

My little brother held his toy over his head,
For whom life was an untangled thread.
The dog ceased its bark,
And was looking cluelessly in the dark.

The poor got a break from their worries,
As time was in no hurry.
The rich still had an expression of displeasure,
Who had jewels to no measure,
But still lacked "The happiness treasure".

The clocked ticked back,
Everybody were back on their track.
The picture had its own place in my brain,
Of people sitting in life's train.

Destiny's Play

In a three -storey building, with great walls,
Lived a girl who spent her day with dolls.
One day, her family happened to leave in a car crash,
Leaving her alone with their Ash.
In their three- storey building.

Near lived a shoemaker of great skill,
Accompanied by self- satisfaction and a great will.
And a family of three to feed,
But not a three-storey building to reside.

The girl has everything, but happiness is on leave,
The shoemaker still has more memories to weave.
All was the plan of destiny,
To make the girl struggle at a tender age,
Or to keep the man happy without any penny.

I Asked Life, Why

Date: 04/26/2022
Contest name: An original terzanelle poetry contest
Sponsored by:L MILTON HANKINS

I asked Life, 'Why are you so unfair?',
With sadness and suffering shouting out loud,
Happiness is an expensive gem possessed by rare.

Dissatisfaction and desperation surrounding the crowd,
Not making way for contentment in the heart,
With sadness and suffering shouting out loud.

Dear Life, We are sitting hopelessly in your cart,
Why are you taking us through the paths of despair?
Not making way for contentment in the heart.

Why is confidence at every stage shattered beyond repair?
We have become like ants who are stepped on every second.
Why are you taking us through the paths of despair.

I beg you to provide us ways to mend,
The broken pieces of love, respect and strength.
We have become like ants who are stepped on every second.

When will our sorrows come to an end?
I beg you to provide us ways to mend.
But Life, ' Why are you so unfair?'
Happiness is an expensive gem possessed by rare.

Only You

I am sorry, I didn't tell you,
What my heart said long ago.
It said it loved beating for you.
It said its emotions were long due
To be spoken out to you.

I am sorry, I didn't tell you,
That my brain couldn't hault,
Caricaturing your pictures
Hallucinating your images,
Mistaking it as a fault.

I am sorry, I didn't tell you,
My eyes couldn't see
A life without you.
I ignored it's voice ,
Thinking let it be.

I am sorry, I didn't tell you,
My tears talked about you
My happiness spoke words of you.
My ears whispered too,
But, I didn't know what to do.

I am sorry, I didn't tell you,
I couldn't imagine,
Me without you.

Half My Heart

Half the heart was mine,
But whole was yours,
You ignored my endeavours,
Everything was still fine.

You stopped to hear,
What I had to say, my dear.
You resigned without saying,
But, I still wanted to hear.

You paid no attention,
To my unending efforts of interaction.
You just kept quiet,
Better would have been an endearing fight.

I will still wait for you to come back,
Till my heart cracks,
And breaks into two,
Stil, half is me and whole will be you.

The Beginning of Togetherness

Two days ago, I started to dance,
But my neighbour, from his house, caught a glance.
I saw his smiling face,
But his exact expressions were tough to trace.
I smiled at him back.

Next day I saw him walking down the stairs,
I passed by him, without any care.
But he turned back and greeted with a smile,
I was pushed into an unknown space for a while.
After sometime, I got back on track.

Few months hence, I met him on the train at noon,
Then fell upon me from the Abode of God , a boon.
There was something his eyes wanted to tell,
Suddenly,he spoke " You dance really well".
I was taken aback.

I was so immersed in his essence,
What I desired for was only his presence.
I wanted to be his forever,
As I could part with him never.
Unaware, It was destiny's best hack.

Now, we are together since years,
My happiness is his and mine are his tears.
We have embarked on a journey of togetherness,
All that matters to me is his happiness.
Every moment is a bundle of joy that we stack.

Back To School

I remember,
Waking up by the alarm clock,
Hearing the sound of the door's knock,
To get up and gather courage,
Of shattering my comfortable cage.

I remember,
Reaching the school's gate at seven,
Still remembering my home like heaven,
In a dismal and disappointed state of mind,
Stability and happiness difficult to find.

I remember,
School teachers finding out students,
As they had to vent
The frustration of their lives
On innocent children, who were naive.

I remember,
Staying quiet the entire day,
As words could never find a way.
Crying out loudly in my heart
Looking at the destruction of my effort.

I remember,
Being bullied by my classmates,
Who hold a large space of hate,
In my heart which always learned to love
But, could never be at peace like a dove.

I remember,
Being laughed at by silly beings,
Not able to confront them for their wrongdoings,
Breaking and shattering a million times,
Still not forgetting to put a smile.

I remember,
Returning home like a warrior,
But, the one who had lost all his conquests.
Only if life would have been fairer
And God would have heeded to my requests.

I remember... everything.

Father To Daughter

When I saw you for the first time,
You became all of mine.
You were this tiny little ball,
Looking like a doll.

You opened a big bag of dreams,
Which were coming true by all means.
My eyes had better words,
Than the world had ever heard.

You were a small box of joy,
Now, I had a life to enjoy.
Tears fell as I looked at you,
It was the most enchanting view.

You were my forgiveness,
For all my evilness.
All my wrongdoings faded away,
As soon as you made your way.

You made me fall in love,
Again and again and forever.
You came as a blessing from above,
As the prettiest person ever.

Cheated

Why did you cheat on me?
Where did I go wrong?
Wasn't I trying to improve?
Wasn't I learning to live?
Wasn't I working to achieve my dreams?
Where was I at fault?
That you brought me to a sudden hault.
Why are you making me sad?
Enough of pain I have had.
I wanted to live my dreams,
No, not now, was your scream.
I waited, I stopped for day and nights,
Still I lost most of the battles and fights.
I cried for hours,
And waited for relief showers.
You did not pay heed,
You did not care for my need.
Why are you so cruel everytime?
I cannot disagree that you are mine.
Dear life, please help me.
Come on let's patch up,
Please help me to get up.

Extra Extraordinary

Dear Mom and Dad,
I tried my best,
To get out of this world of average,
And rest my feet on extraordinary,
But I failed.

Dear Mom and Dad,
I worked hard day in and day out,
In silence without crying out loud.
Still couldn't get through,
The competition that is a little too.

Dear Mom and dad,
I gave in all my energy and effort,
All with all my heart,
Still God couldn't be merciful,
To provide strength a spoonful.

My Dear teachers,
I struggled to cope with your humiliation,
And state of no satisfaction.
I tried to ignore your heartbreaking words,
Which were difficult to be heard.

I know that you don't understand now,
As now I bow low,
To tell all of you a words few,
That respect was not meant for you.

My talent has no place,
In this amazing hierarchical society of yours,
That only the deemed to be extraordinary adores.

Dear God,
I tried my best to stand out of the rest,
But, even you couldn't be merciful.
You could be the color of my dull world,
But, chose to take only trials and test.

How do we learn to be average
In this world of extraordinary,
Because the saying has been reversed,
Extraordinary are many,
But averages too deserve a place.
