To the Lost Love

History runs deep, and it’s too late to rewrite
We were gasoline soul mates — friction ignites.
With persistent anger that destroys my virtue
Sharpened tongue, time-thickened skin, it’s too hard to get through.

Here she comes — it’s the devil in my throat again
Out bubble hateful thoughts I wish I didn’t mean.
My words flow like a faucet and they’re all in vain,
it’s useless to think on how we both felt overseen.

A third of our lives — was it futile or cherished?
Time and tears wasted on a love set to perish
A lover, a friend, and my worst enemy
All the plans, all the goals — they’re left in history

But to the eternal sunshine of my spotless mind,
I look forward to a day when I can leave you behind

Missed Connection

I had a little thought today
I wondered how you were
And then a sadness passed me by
It’s better like this, sure

I could say “Oh god, I miss you”
But I don’t think that’s fair
I could stop by and see what you’re up to
But really, I just still care

Some say that in time wounds are healed
But me, I have my doubts,
We both know that it’s not our time
True passion’s fire; doused
