What Love Means To Me

What love means to me is beyond definition
when you fall in love, it's a big transition
being in love is a very nice feeling
to stay in love, you and I have to be giving

What love means to me is like a sunray
love is something we have day by day
love means holding hands, walking in the park
love means hearing sounds of a lark

What love means to me, is a free expression
how you fall in love is your discretion
love is not, being takened for granted
but love is, that you've landed

What love means to me is choosing my mate
love is being able to communicate
love is taking romantic walks on the beach
this is what love means to me

Team of Champions Enduring

TEAM OF CHAMPIONS ENDURING

"When faced with obstacles, failure is imminent, seek opportunities to succeed" - Floyd Neal

Team of Champions Enduring
we started with differing perspectives,
anticipating a perceived failure,
accepting the opportunity to excel.
Teamwork makes the dream work,
the team focused on its responsibilities,
with an assurance that the workload wasn't a liability
some days were tough,
but the team never surrendered to the challenge
Moving Forward Together, we shared the success
collaborative achievements were recognized with finess

Team of Champions Enduring
faced with obstacles and shortfalls,
when the odds are against you, don't
throw in the towel, use your creative mind.
When life serves you lemons, make lemonade
which accentuated our ability to succeed,
endurance is the key to longevity
inner reflection is the answer

Team of Champions Enduring
we refused to be defeated,
never giving up, yet continuing to strive for completeness.
Commitment is a foundational anchor
working for the common good
being a part of something larger than ourselves
the team rose to the occasion
Team of Champions Enduring, we are family

The Good Shepherd

THE GOOD SHEPHERD

There once was a flock that was lost and afraid
It wandered around without direction for days
But the Lord looked down with compassion from above
And sent a good Shepherd to lead them with love

The Shepherd was kind, loving and wise
And He cherished his whole flock, no matter the color or the size
Though the Shepherd was quiet, humble and meek
Every ear listened whenever He would speak

He showed them the way to walk in the light
And He prayed every day for God to give them true sight
He taught them about the blood of the Lamb
And about the Creator, the great I AM

They flourished and they grew through the knowledge they gained
About the Saviour from above who lived without blemish or stain
The flock was so thankful to the Lord up above
For sending a wise leader who was so full of love

He lead them with a strong and gentle good hand
And took the whole flock safely into God's Promise Land

Understanding Our Past, Living Today, Creating Our Future

Only when lions have historians
will hunters cease being heroes
we are one nation, one family, indivisible
for us, divorce or separation are not options

Though blacks first stepped foot in the Americas, in 1518
racial barriers broken, time passes, but love endures
racial rifts, tearing at the heart of America
clean your house of racism, America

Racism is a sickness that may never go away
there's no color in love
the ship has whethered every rack, the prize we sought is won
the port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting

African American history; the record of a race
of indomitable people surviving the diaspora
where do we go from here!
we move united intothe future

Letter of Inner Re-Evaluation

"LETTER OF INNER RE-EVALUATION"

As I think about the future moving forward, it seems that I miscalculated the opportunity laid before me. In this moment of strife and turmoil, should I act, without taking a full examination into what use to be, or at least I thought it was real.

Before acting to hastily, again, should I take a deep dive into my inner most thoughts to determine what went wrong, if anything. Jealous people has always been a pet peeve of mine, because I have forever harbored the understanding that the concept is tantamount to control and selfishness.

I have been down this road before and I know all to well, the damage caused by such a shallow mindset. Mental insecurities are nothing more than a non-belief in your own self character. What do I mean exactly, simply that, taking on victim hood, with the belief that you have been short changed in life, because you always have to be right, not compromising, never meeting in the middle of understanding and agreement.

When your life has been in a certain stratosphere for more than a decade, and suddenly there's a disruption of complete chaos and confusion, what do you do? Interesting, you ask, because the initial response would be, that the level of comfort, trust and understanding that you had placed in and with another person, had been in a moments notice, out of the blue, got turned on its head.

In this instance, I guess the old adage holds some truth, you can live with another person for a lifetime and really never know them. When people say, I got your back, I have your best interests at heart, what are they really saying and what do they really mean. The true test of these words will always present itself in the form of a crisis or some other situation, that may only require communication.

An example of marriage longevity is 30, 40, 50, 60 years. How did they get there, not by, tucking tail and running at the least little rocking of the apple cart. Life teaches us that every day isn't a bed of roses. Life has challenges, we accept them, offer a resolution, not to be second guessed by those we confess to love.

Anger is an emotion antithetical to our physical construct, that will always lead one down a path of self destruction, because anger is never portrayed in a positive light, nor is it expressed with a positive impact, the attitude is forever negative. Even though people have the right to express whatever emotion they feel, but they don't have the right to selfishly bestow that anger upon another person or their unsuspecting better half.

Shock and trepidation are weapons of degradation and humiliation, that can work as annihilators of the soul, which is the spiritual foundation of human existence. If people are going to get along and thrive together, there must be a balanced equilibrium of shared responsibility to succeed.

As, I contemplate my next move in the golden years of my life, decisions are difficult at worst and thoughtful at best. However, I ponder the tribulations, as to why I am forced into such traumatic circumstances in the peaceful and comforting years of my life.

In the meantime as I travel on this journey of indecisiveness, pondering the echoes of past memories, good and bad, where did I miss the mark of clear vision. People are a maze of imperfections, strangeness, weirdness and oddities, never to be fully understood or dissected. It's simply sad when you dedicate your heart to another person, overwhelming, and you receive massive grief for the dedication. Just something to think about, how life really works, in the real world for some of us.

Devastation of World Hunger

I'm appalled and devastated about world hunger
A crisis that can't be overlooked
Signs are so rampant and wide spread
People are starving here in our nation

World governments won't take action
Red Cross and Peace Corps can only do so much
Children are dying, a fact so shameful
A global problem, a dormant issue

My hope is that, public officials elected
Explore other avenues to resolve the problem
We need an honest effort and time
The wealthiest won't donate a dime

Politicians help countries start wars
But won't jepordize world resources
What a selfish motive, not to help
This is the devastation of world hunger

You Are Not Forgotten

You are not forgotten loved one
Nor will you ever be
As long as life and memory last
We will remember thee

We miss you now, our hearts are sore
As time goes by, we'll miss you more
Your loving smile, your gentle face
No one can fill your vacant place

Dedicated to my Mother and Father

African Americans Celebrating Juneteenth

"AFRICAN AMERICANS CELEBRATING JUNETEENTH"

Juneteenth, Juneteenth, Juneteenth
What does it really mean?
Slavery ending news, delivered two years late
155 years to date, black people still have to wait

African American celebration of freed slaves
Home of the free and land of the brave
We've suffered such brutality
Equal rights, still not a reality

From whence we came, some improvement
That has produced the least movement
The country's problem, is our color
Constantly being labeled the other

A perceived freedom, what have we learned
Still being denied, what we've rightfully earned
Ending slavery, an alleged act of liberation
Is it really a celebration?

They love our culture, but they don't love us
This optional choice, has stymied our trust
Over time, as a race, we've made some gains
But our mental psychic, is a lasting source of pain

For the pittance and crumbs left on the backdoor step
We should've been grateful and appreciative, before we wept
Reminiscing on the storied history
Unlocking the chains of a hidden mystery

Juneteenth, Juneteenth, Juneteenth
What does it really mean?

Katrina Unleashed

A time in history, August 30, 2005
Katrina unleashed her fury
Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama lost lives
Days pass, no help in sight, people become weary

Scenes of tragedy, despair, and suffering
Chaos abounds in the midst of the storm
People struggling for survival, the government buffering
States, cities, communities, neighborhoods torn

Katrina unleashed a colissal fear
With an amazing speed and power
Leaving death in its path, far and near
Swift rescues critical with each passing ghour

Quarter million people abruptly displaced
Multi billion dollar cleanup to be faced
Economies and jobs were lost
Katrina unleashed, what a cost

Dedicated to the people in New Orleans that lost the most

Perspective of An Invisible People

"Perspective of an Invisible People"

Struggling for over four hundred years
Drowning in rivers of tears
Throughout the country's history
Accepting black people, still a mystery
Since the country's discovery, we've been abused
Standing with strength, will prevent us from being misused
Visualizing the country's brutal truth
Unable to get pass the sleuth
I dare you ask for our credentials
Having proven already, our potential
Creating a kerfuffle with the Supreme Court nominee
It's not a surprise who they want it to be
Hell bent on dumbing us down
Because the uneducated continue to frown
Continuing with this sordid past
Wondering how long the abuse will last
The country's demographics are diverse
Yet the blended family is not the worst
Giving misinformation about race
Slamming those untruths in our face
Trying to rewrite history, by banning books
Common criminals, they're all crooks
Never allow your life to be stagnated
Let your successes be celebrated
Don't allow yourself to be a pity party
Focus on the positive result, as hearty
Don't throw crumbs to patronize us
Black people stay strong, as we must
Rise up from the foot stool
Be strong, resilient, with our rules
This two party system should be about democracy
But daily is being made a mockery
The Constitution is not a document of healing
But rather a play on our feelings
Self-evident, is all of the hatred
As we are still being degraded
We are constantly seen as a threat
There really is a difference, I bet
We are not just others, we are brothers
Relying on the convictions of our mothers
Family is all we got
Embrace it or not
The resolve for black people is God
Answered prayers gives a nod
Dam if we do, Dam if we don't
Think about what you want
Black people, continue to be you
We can only progress with what we do
Continue to be intentional and selfless
Whatever your truth, be willing to confess
We are unique and complex
Don't allow yourselves to be vexed
Two Americas, separate and not so equal
Realizing we are living in a sequel
In spite of progress made
It seems we have nothing to trade
We see vividly, white privilege portrayed
It's still clear we are being betrayed
Will there come a time, when black people get a foot hold
Maybe being intentional and bold
Social ills and police brutality
A true construct in reality
Politics is just a game
The more things change, the more they stay the same
I've never understood their reasoning
It's like a gourmet meal without seasoning
Your dislike is because of the color of our skin
With such a separatist view, we can't win
Unbalanced equity in the law
Forces us to use a claw
Our children are the future
Don't allow the doctor to miss a suture
Think about the many possibilities
They continue to shirk their responsibilities
No protection for babies unborn
After birth, they are left torn
Constantly preaching, you must not abort
Yet they offer policies to remove support
Healthcare is critical for survival
But Politicians are so unreliable
Crime is an ill of society
Comes in illegal variety
Jealousy, wide spread within our ranks
We don't have collateral for the banks
We will never receive earned reparations
Our options to stay afloat, are inspirations
They're laser focused on suppressing our vote
We shouldn't overlook this action, but take note
Determined commitment for authoritarian rules
They must think that Black people are fools
The more black people gain
Still permanent scars of pain
Moving in modern day slavery
Strengthens our resolve and bravery
This country owes us nothing
Simply seeking an opportunity for something
Through it all, God has us covered
Shielding a people from being smothered
