The Peacemaker

The Peacemaker

Your innocent eyes
Mask the wisdom behind them
Sweet tenderness
Layered by bricks
You never falter

Your longing heart
Contends with a bridled spirit
Innocent dreams
Thickened by fog
You never know freedom

Your never-ending patience
Shields the frustration within
Calm acceptance
Surrounded by thorns
You never judge

Your unfailing kindness
Cascades over rocks and stones
Pure loyalty
Encompassed by bitter truth
You never forsake us

Piano Player

Play me softly,
I am the music of your soul,
a voice that moves you,
notes of inspiration
on an island of tranquility.

Play me roughly,
loud with passion,
a voice that must be heard
yearning for freedom,
escaping through your hands,
removing all of my fears...

The Simple Man

He walked a mile,
and came back empty-handed,
but in his heart was freedom,
for he was never branded.

He lost battles,
and put the many to rest,
but in his heart was justice
for he fought amongst the best.

He bravely sailed,
amongst the waves was beaten,
but in his heart was meekness,
for he was never taken.

He reigned thus high,
and was always needing more,
but in his heart contentment,
for he walked aside the poor.

He ran the race,
with a torch, he felt the burn,
but within his heart is love,
for he really lived his turn.

Clay Project

I look in the mirror
at the lines on my forehead,
the crow’s-feet developing around my eyes,
imprints of yesteryear.
Experiences.

The woman staring back at me
remembers being molded in this fashion,
shaping herself around the physical.
Worries of yesteryear…
now trivial.

Amidst the pains of a troubled world,
the physical attributes seem silly now,
in a life so temporal.
Mixed with a bit of dust and water,
I am nothing but a clay project.

When Life Turns Gray

When Life Turns Gray

Remember when we laughed all day
the beach was full of sun
the warmth upon our faces
when all we knew was fun

Remember when we lived the moments
and life was void of fear
we danced a tune of freedom
that only we could hear

Remember when we traveled abroad
when limits didn't exist
a fresh new adventure awaited us
with ignorance and bliss

Remember when you moved away
yet somehow we survived
a phone call kept us busy
and let us feel revived

Remember when your thoughts turned gray
yet subtle it seemed at first
a saddness in your eyes appeared
for a never ending thirst

Remember when we discovered you
your secrets could hide no more
the world grew dark and dim that day
as your richness turned to poor

Remember when we shouted
but in the end I cried
because I could not help you
and eventually... you died

Pieces of Me

A part of me was lost today.
Misplaced.
Burned by the embers from the fire
I grieve with angst anew
from the bowels deep within.

My world stopped spinning today.
Abruptly.
Skidding to a halt, leaving tire-tracks in my soul
I am submerged in the misery
that resides as an unwelcomed guest.

There is no sun today.
Concealed.
Blocked away, and incomplete
I am forever chained to the burden of this truth
Deep within, I’m mourning.

A part of me died today.
Forever.
Stirring quietly in the autumn wind
Ashes of hope spread over the sea
as pieces of me are buried.

The Lost Son

The Lost Son

Troubled Child, tell me of your past,
tell me what's in your head,
tell me of your fears,
and I will put them at ease.

Afflicted Soul, tell me of your heartache,
tell me of your pain,
tell me of your sorrows,
and I will listen to you.

Precious Jewel, show me your treasures,
show me the value within,
show me your priceless stones,
and I won't take them away.

Restless Warrior, show me your battle ground,
show me the stains of blood,
show me your scars,
and I won't look away.

Subtle Player, give me your secrets,
give me the knowledge you have,
give me an honest answer,
and I will give you my trust.

Master of disguise, give me the character you don't play
give me truth,
give me all your masks,
and I will give you acceptance.

Beautiful Artist, let me listen to you,
let me hear your song,
let me see the paintings in your mind,
and I will not close my eyes.

Profound Prisoner, let me set you free,
let me make you smile,
let me take your hand and run with you,
and I will hold on forever.

Swindler Serenade

Oh cheaters near and far,
stop being what you are!
Our love should not be tested
because it’s well invested.
You expect us to believe,
but your actions do deceive.
Your mistakes are justified
hoping we’ll be pacified
Now mix it with some science,
resisting our defiance.
We measure with precision
while pending our decision.
Our love you like to squander
departing we do ponder.
Oh cheaters near and far,
stop being what you are...

In Her Eyes

Sad Eyes, you’re lonely now,
nursing a pain that tears your heart;
but this too shall pass,
and a new life you will start.

Twinkle Eyes, you’re blushing now,
uneasy with your date;
but this too shall pass,
and you’ll find your perfect mate.

Glowing Eyes, you’re wedding now,
excited for this day;
but this too shall pass,
and you’ll be on your way.

Bright Eyes, you’re happy now,
living a fairytale come true;
but this too shall pass,
as the moments always do.

Sad Eyes, you’re lonely now,
nursing a grief that fills your soul;
but this too shall pass,
and your heart will remain whole.

Blank Eyes, you’re empty now,
staring back at me no more;
but this too shall pass,
and I will shut this open door.

Rise

Rise

Tremble to the echoes
Of yesterday's song
This voice that knows
The notes were wrong

Shadowed from the brilliance
Of the morning light
To some it would appear
You've lost the fight

Rise from this slumber
Out of the dark
Step outside
And make your mark

Clinging to the memory
That never sits still
Captured by a moment
That never seems real

Hidden by the reasoning
That seems to make sense
Awakened by the truth
That shatters all pretense

Pull from the shadows
Into the sun
Stretch out your hand
Be ready to run
