If Only I Could Go Back In Time

It was pouring, late one night
I got up and went outside
Thought about you and I
How we were, once upon a time
Years ago, we were free
We were fearless and loved easily
But thinking back, time stood still
Once we felt the clock ticking, everything fell
I was yours, you were mine
If only we could go back in time
I remember, years ago
Laughing with you, it healed my soul
Now you're gone, love turned hard
I still think about you as I lay in the dark
Thinking about you and I
If only I could go back in time

How Can I Say

How can I say this without freezing,
forgetting my words,
skin turning red from the heat.
How can I say this without fear,
hopelessly looking,
scared of what you might say.
How can I say this without tears coming,
flashbacks flying,
pushing the words to form sentences.
How can I say this without knowing,
will you feel the same,
scared that I will lose you all together.
How can I say that I love you,
without saying it at all.

Boys Will Be Boys

They always say, "boys will be boys," and leave it at that.
No one will try to fix the situation because boys will be boys.
They let him be stupid, abusive, and sexual because boys will be boys.
And I can't fix that.
I can't fix that because I'm a girl and we should learn to accept that boys will be boys.
We should learn that when they do stuff like that it's because boys will be boys.
We learn that no one cares because boys will be boys.
We learn to keep our problems to ourselves because boys will be boys.
We learn that it is okay to be verbally, physically, and sexually abused by a guy because boys will be boys.
So, what's the point in trying when you know you are going to fail over and over again?
What's the point if we are the ones getting lessons on how to act when they are the ones who need them?
What's the point in teaching us how not to get raped if boys will be boys and do what they feel like anyways?
This should not be about what we wear of how we act or if we said no, this should be about how boys will be boys.
They are the ones who need to be taught that just because boys will be boys that doesn't mean that girls will be toys.

I Wish I Could Go Back To the Time

I wish I could go back to the time where all I had to worry about were scraped knees from playing around in the streets and having fun.
Because now, I have to worry about what I wear when I'm out in the streets because people can be hard to trust.
I wish I could go back to the time where all I had to worry about was breaking a crayon or losing sleep to watch the sunrise.
Because now, I have to worry about broken hearts and losing friends, sitting in the bathroom crying my eyes out and trying to figure out what I did wrong.
I wish I could go back to the time where I would dance in the rain and sing in the shower.
Because now, I cry in the rain and cut my skin with a blade in the shower.

Trust

The last time I trusted someone,
I thought of him as this hero.
To my younger self,
He was like something no one could touch.
As I got older, things started to change.
I realized that hero,
The one from the comics and fairy tales,
Was just that, something made up.
So when I started to trust again,
When I started to trust you,
I was scared you were going to be all made up too.

Tell Me You Love Me

Momma told me
When I was young
Loving someone
Would be a lot of fun
But now I'm older
Loving you is like skipping stones
No one told me
How alone I'd feel
When you're gone
Loving you is like watching the rain
Thunder, lightning, and all the pain
These memories won't leave me
Tell me you love me
Months go by, without a word
Sitting, praying, tying to be heard
You look right past me
I start crumbling
Loving you is like sunset goodbyes
Watching the sky turn into night
Wishing on a
Shooting star
Loving you is like parting the sea
This love is clear to see
One day, when the time is right
I will be yours, and you will be mine
Tell me you love me

Lies

At first
The realized
My smile
was fake
But eventually
I got good
Because now
When they see
My smile
They believe
I am happy
They believe
The lies
I show
With my lips

Her Smile

Her smile, it's bright and happy
But that's only with friends
When she's alone
Her smile, it falters
And is forced back on
When the friends show up again

Sunflower

Yellow rays of sun shining through the red of day,
petals on petals of gaining the courage once lost.
She's made it through the harshest of times,
broken, brushed aside, left alone in a sea of thorns.

Being a sunflower amongst roses, yellow in the red,
she is a beauty like no other, scars and all.
Healed and healthy, thriving when no one believed,
she is you, and you are her, stand tall and proud.

When the reds fade during dusk, yellows still remain,
go forth my little sunflower and thrive forevermore.
That be the name of the heavens pouring out,
screaming hallelujah, everything becomes new.
