Spring

Torrential downpours batter the awning
Above my bedroom during early spring
Tip, tap the water collects and drains from
The downspout to the black, impervious road;
Far in the distance are ominous skies;
Thunder crashes loudly and lightning strikes,
Hurling concise bolts through the hazy gloom;
The wailing wind fires volleys of pure hell,
Gusting and swirling and uprooting trees;
I wish the rain away like the rhyme says,
But chaos reigns and lingers in this place;
I yearn for the pleasant, penetrating
Rays of the golden sun to appear now;
Alas! It has forsaken us today,
But there is always hope for tomorrow!

My Old Friend

I sit, gazing at my bountiful fields;
Cattle graze and meander upon the grass;
Flapping, a shadowy figure soars near;
He perches on the railing of my porch,
still saturated from the morning dew;
"Hello, my old friend," I say with a sigh;
He wears blackened fur and sports darkened wings;
“What brings you here to visit me today?”;
His masked bill stirs with curiosity,
Balancing himself on the old, cracked wood;
Through a gurgled croak, the bright outlook transforms;
Dark clouds emerge above dangerous peaks;
Pockets of pure salmon sky are swallowed;
Green fields decay to a hostile landscape;
Pestilence ravages the strong cattle;
Their corpses fester where maggots mingle;
Shaking, I try to clear what my eyes see;
The thumping of my heart intensifies;
My lungs seek oxygen but there is none;
Bleakness encumbers my soul, my being;
My only release sits on a table
Beside me in a cloudy container;
I grasp the bottle and clutch the white pill
With a strong gulp its powdery flesh makes
Its way deep into my troubled system;
I close my eyes and suck for air again;
Minutes pass, and the malignant world mends;
I open my eyes to the greenery
And perpetual beauty undisturbed;
My old friend departs into the blue sky;
I wave him goodbye but I know he will
Return tomorrow with an avalanche

You and I

You indulged me with your filthy deceits
You anointed me with a coronal of false assurances
You took me by the hand and guided me to a land of falsehoods
And I was a complete fool for you

I swear by the sun and the moon,
And each of the stars scorching and fading in galaxies far away,
That I will never illustrate my palpable love for you again
I will not yearn for you, for you have forgotten me

The love in my heart is extinguished
Though my it beats relentlessly like a war drum
The gardens you tended in my mind
Now wither and choke from poisonous ash flung
From the den of shadows that is my soul

I will not call for you
I will torch every bridge you have ever stepped foot on
I will tear the pages that invoke your name from my book of life
I will erase any lingering nostalgia of your adoration
I will unmoor my soul from the shores of your callous considerations
I will inter my longing for you in a grave soon encumbered by the weeds of time

Should I conjure your ghost one day
I will promptly snuff that redolent manifestation
For I have torn out my anguished heart
And sown it in fertile, healing soils
