Angles

When two rays intersect at a point
It is called an angle
It is found in many a shape
Like square and rectangle
So let’s journey through the realm of insanity
And meet their war-torn, weird family.

The youngest of the lot
Is called acute angle
Baby Acute is a cute angle
But dissatisfied with his allotted space
He fights with Right and Complete, you see
Always crossing the LoC.

The angle formed by a two sides of a square
Is known as right angle.
Everyone seeks out his counsel
For being Right, he is always right.

There is an angle called obtuse
It’s always very confused
Swinging like a pendulum
Undecided between right and straight.
He is also very sad
‘Cuz he’s never right

The one which lies down poker-stiff
Is the straight angle.
The victim of the two pendulums
Obtuse and reflex
Thank God, he is peaceful
Never hits his vicious bullies
He is always injured
For he is stiff.

The next angle is reflex
It is just like obtuse
Always, always confused.
Only it’s a bigger pendulum.
Never knows where to go
Towards right, or towards straight
Always at war with Complete and Straight
Wanting more space for himself.

Last of all, comes the complete angle
The mediator for the general public
The Mahatma Gandhi of the Angle family,
Granddad Complete is always stopping riots
Wearing the orange dress of a monk
Ensuring the peaceful norms.

After the Hurricane

I lay broken in the sand, wind swirled around me
Waves lashed against the shore, I heard the storm’s roar
My friends washed ashore in the early morn
After the hurricane, everything was gone.

I lost my ship, I lost my friends
I lost everything worth living for
I was all alone near the coral reef
I had to live with my grief.

Yet I couldn’t sink into my thoughts
For soon a tiger charged at me
Strength and anger coursed through my veins
And I kicked higher than Bruce Lee

I dragged its carcass to the beach
My mind miraculously clear by now
I made a hut, I grabbed a fruit
Now for my old life, I did not root.

Years later, the hurricane struck
But this time, I wasn’t afraid
I walked out with a smile on my face
To see my dear old friends again.

One Deadly Pathogen

Cars were humming
People were bustling around
These things happened
All year round.

We lived in blissful ignorance
Of the deadly pathogen
But when it roared to life
'twas chaos all around.

The world shut down
No one moved around anymore
Except for one pathogen
You guessed it right - Covid-19.

While we were in our houses
Cowering in fear
This malicious spirit prowled the land
Covered the sky, spread in the sea.
It travelled around the world with glee
Now, normal our life was not to be.

Somehow, it found many of us
Dug into our skin
Didn't spare our mind
Nor our life.

It is unwilling to end this strife
It is unwilling to give us respite
It wants the whole world to itself
Which shows us its selfish self.

But it is evil and we are good
We can do anything if we are in the mood
So a vaccine will be knocking soon
With a smile as bright as the shining moon.

Water

Elixir of Life
Paramount to living souls.
Sans it, endless strife.

Land

The terra firma
A domain which teems with life.
Sans it, landbound die.

Gifts of God

Elixir of life
Paramount to living souls.
Sans it, endless strife.

The terra firma
A domain which teems with life.
Sans it, landbound die.

Air, the gentle breeze
A clot of gas we hold dear.
Sans it, woe betide.

Water, land, air
Gifts of god precious art they
Need them be destroyed?

Mother Earth

Every passing day
There is a cry of ‘Help!’
But the humans ignore it
And sing and dance with mirth.
The Mother Earth has shed her leaves
But a deaf ear turn they to her pleas.

Indeed it is the Mother Earth
Crying out to those whom she gave birth
Indeed it is the Mother Earth
Pleading with those who bring down her hearth.

On and on it goes
The Mother Earth’s woes
Angry at her children
In the end, to Death she bows
Oh, the Mother Earth’s woes
Her very children become her foes.

Indeed it is the Mother Earth
Crying out to those whom she gave birth
Indeed it is the Mother Earth
Pleading with those who destroy her hearth.

She sends waves and waves of blue after them
She cracks their foundation, the ground.
From overhead, she releases a torrent of winds
From the cracked peaks, she unleashes that molten orange.
Yet they refuse to put a stop
On sweeping nature with that deadly mop.

Indeed it is the Mother Earth
Crying out to those whom she gave birth
Indeed it is the Mother Earth
Pleading with those who destroy her hearth.

They shield themselves with wood and mud
Get cozy in those houses of theirs
Don’t give a thought to Mother Earth
Don’t care if she loses her life
They engineered this deadly strife
They left their mother to wither and die.

Indeed it is the Mother Earth
Crying out to those whom she gave birth
Indeed it is the Mother Earth
Pleading with those who destroy her hearth.

She gave birth to them, hoping they would be kind
But they brought her down; to the damage they were blind.
Throwing plastic into ponds
Spilling oil into seas
The poor fish noticed it
And felt their hearts freeze.

Indeed it is the Mother Earth
Crying out to those whom she gave birth
Indeed it is the Mother Earth
Pleading with those who ruin her hearth.

Soon, water shall cost a million gold
As the Earth grows old and old
Nature itself will cease to exist
Should the Earth vanish into the mist.

Indeed it is the Mother Earth
Crying out to those whom she gave birth
Indeed it is the Mother Earth
Pleading with those who wreck her hearth.

But fear not, still,
It isn’t too late
Patiently will the Mother Earth wait
For her kin to save her from her dreadful fate.
She will wait, she will wait
And with her kin, peace will she make.

Indeed it is the Mother Earth
Crying out to those whom she gave birth
Indeed it is the Mother Earth
Pleading with those who damage her hearth.

A Kingdom Torn Apart

When formed the Earth and fostered life
I blossomed into being and watched
With wonder a youthful world
Blooming with life in green and blue

I made my way through snowy caps
Passed by pastures green galore
Then reached my glorious kingdom
But something was amiss –

My ears popped, such was the noise
Ere I saw subjects lifeless
Piles of toxin seeped in
I choked and gasped for breath

The dagger of loss pierced my heart
Silent in grief, lying in the reef
I stumbled and gazed yonder
To where my glorious kingdom once lay
Clouded the ruins heavy mist grey
