An Equal

He's gone
And life goes on,

Hungover from the excitement
of getting to know someone new
Someone who is now in clear view,

A kind and honest soul
Who is never without a bowl,

Of Bran Flakes
AM and PM,

Fueled by every fiber
of his being so respectful,

An equal

Now to focus on me
And where I need to be,

The life admin I have neglected
Piling higher than expected,

Patience is a virtue they say
No one mentions the struggle of the day to day,

Adjusting to a life without constant affection
Only slow internet connection,

But I have a good feeling about this one
And what we could become,

Until now it seemed impossible to find an equal
Someone who makes me feel whole,

I guess I have to wait for the sequel
With this boy and his bowl.

Life's Remote Control

It's Saturday eve
we're drinking in town
Only joking, I wish.
We're still in lockdown.

Any inkling of romance
on pause until further notice.
Making plans for the future
feels utterly hopeless.

We were all on fast forward
and the world blew a fuse.
Burying our heads in the sand,
disregarding the news.

Forced to stop
and re-evaluate life.
Beneficial for all
though the stress has been rife.

With no option to rewind
all we have is hindsight.
But we're sick of these rules
our patience is finite.

For now, we press play
and take joy in what we can.
I just really hope they lift
the bar and restaurant ban.

Knowing I Can

I have constructed a plan
it feels like the one,

Although usually once we say this
something comes undone,

To do this on my own
feels like a herculean task,

But the good things in life
don't come easily nor fast.

I know I will succeed
and the road ahead is bumpy,

The rise and fall of every hill
makes the ride a little jumpy.

Where is the fun in a perfectly laid out path?
With everything in plain sight,

We need those hidden monsters
so we can learn how to fight.

I would hate to spend my life thinking
'Oh what if I could?'

Instead I will live it knowing I can
Working for the greater good.

Overcrowded

My stress levels they rise Surprise I despise Out of nowhere it comes Little crumbs I am numb To the positives Only negatives come to me My vision clouded Overcrowded with thoughts aching to be freed
