Dear Corona, From Class of 2020

Tassels are turned, and caps are in the air,
High school ends just like that with a handshake.
This is a day we’ve been waiting to share
But now, everybody’s health is at stake.
With no parties, no way to celebrate,
How do we mark our great accomplishments?
Maybe by summer, we’ll see our classmates,
But then it’s on to college assignments.

Pack up, move out, now your life’s in a dorm.
Usually there are some hugs and tears.
First day of class is not the high school norm,
But we quickly find friends among new peers.
Corona, you’ve seized prom, graduation...
Please don’t touch our college education.

From Scratch

Pie in the oven!
The flaky crust is browning,
Sugar crystallized.
Apple filling, juicy sweet,
I’ll eat it all by myself.

Love That Never Was

My "heart" was wrapped up in him,
In his "beautiful" mystery.
I never quite knew his thoughts,
And I think he liked it that way.
There was always something hiding
Behind those "green" eyes,
Something I desperately wanted to uncover.
His love was all play, and I fell for the game.

He’d play with my "hair",
Letting the long strands flow through his fingers.
Each like a "thread" of gold, he’d say...
He always knew what to say.
His eyes were sparks behind "dark" eyelashes,
And I always wanted them on me.

I had a "fathomless" fascination with him,
One I could never satisfy.
That’s how it goes with your first love.
My heart pounded at the sight of him,
A thousand "birds",
Flapping their wings in my chest.
My heart still pounds like that sometimes,
Leaving me "breathless" in the "silence" of the night,
When I think about how much I once loved him.

Dinner Time

Fried chicken
Crispy, Crunchy
Frying, Cooling, Eating
The best way to make it
Fried chicken

In the Early Hours

Morning’s slow embrace...
Showing her soft face,
Blushed and painted and blended.
Silks pulled ‘cross the sky,
Pastel ripples fly,
Hushed and rushed and splendid.

Opposite the world,
Sun is sinking down,
Quietly and sleepily.
The moon is pulled high,
Her blue smile wide,
Lovely, friendly, but lonely.

(This is an Alouette poem)

Atlantic

Cool gray
Warm tones
Damp sand and speckled stones
Sleepy sky
Lazy haze
Falling into ocean’s gaze
Thunderous roll
A whisper still
Endless water’s blurring thrill
Choppy wind
Cooling skin
Soothing self from within.

Free Verse On Love

I can’t wait for the day
When I can tease you
And compliment you,
To see the shy smile on your face
just a few feet away.
To look into your eyes
Before reaching for your hand,
Planting a kiss on your cheek
From the tips of my toes.
