If I weren't afraid, I'd become a rainbow mule,
and run through the field and eat all the sunflowers
If I weren't afraid, I'd go chase all the bees out too
and make them leave my forget-me-nots alone
If I weren't afraid, I'd find the monster in underwater
who dwells in the black and white cave
If I weren't afraid, I'd touch him and hear his roar
and hear it push my hair past my face
If I weren't afraid, I'd take those butterflies in my stomach
and cast them into the ground
so they can stay there in a hole
and never be found

That walk around town
that light heat in the air
when the sun goes down
cars pass by and stare
Water balloons exploding on the trampoline
climbing the pine tree, covered in sap
soaring high, and jumping off the swings
laying in the soft grass, taking a nap
Rehearsing while the sun still sits outside
and after, going out for ice cream
seeing your smile and pride
this is summer it seems

If I were a penny and you were a pound
I'd prove myself to you
I'd pick tons of me up off of the ground
Until I was a pound too
If you were a paper and I was a pen
I'd write until you were filled
I'd write down some secrets now and then
I'd let the stories be spilled
If you were the sun and I was the moon
I'd fly around the Earth
I'd go around Every Afternoon
Until you knew your worth

The summer brought the flower blossoms
shiny, bright, and new
and shows what happens when the sunshine
meets the ocean blue
but soon the summer turned to fall
and colors changed their light
the beauty that would shine by day
and stars that shined by night
but soon the fall just had to leave
and winter dropped its snow
and while I still had time to grieve
I praised the winter's glow
And just like fall the cold had gone
it left just the same
and soon along with spring's new dawn
the spring flowers came

I want to go to the black cave down there
but there is no light to guide me through dark
and it would bring me harm, my life to spare
and so right here is where my feet are parked
It is quite an end that one can travel to
but I go through the cave to find the end
I want to go to find my way to you
and right there with you, I will start to mend
Love can cause those to make quite the bold choice
they risk them, their life, and who knows what else
just to see their love, hear their love, their voice
it seems love has the best stories one tells
and so the cave stands there and waits for me
Love is the one, to go past what I see

I've seen you at least twice
you come in here for breakfast
I've served other celebrities
but you're not like the rest
I have served another man
but he just kept his head down
I supposed he was tired of getting recognized
so I didn't blame him when he frowned
When I served you at your table
I was nervous and shy
but as I set the plates down
you said thank you and smiled
What I admired about you most
when you'd sit with your wife
and talk and enjoy each other's company
It seemed like you both lived a happy life
