Empty Pews

EMPTY PEWS
These seats have stories and if they could talk
You would hear of the lives that many people walk
The church filled on each weekly Sunday morn
With families and neighbors and hearts that are torn
They will show up today maybe hear
Some good news
As they forced themselves to fill empty pews
The pastor is new or maybe been round the block
Dressed real nice does he really walk the walk
His wife is quiet what goes on in the home?
Does she have his back or is her heart on the roam?
His suit well pressed and perfectly shined shoes
But does he really care for those in the pews
If they come at all the men in that town
From working all week and from being beat down
Full of guilt and grief and worry and sorrow
They’ve no time for shallowness dealing with tomorrow
Last night they got hammered from drinking the booze
And reluctantly strolled in hungover to rest in these pews
Mother sits down after dropping off kids
She needs a break from cleaning up babies bibs
The bills the laundry and the groceries are low
But on Sunday for a moment a bit time will slow
Tomorrow morning will come there will be no hitting the snooze
She’s thinking of all she’s to do
Sitting there in the pews
Here comes a single man internally shamed
Unable to find a wife but his eyes lust in flame
Unable to get a grip he is labored and worn
Won’t share at all that he’s addicted to porn
Trying to fit in and find his way but extremely confused
Maybe there is wisdom found down the isle of these pews
A young woman not modest but with a figure and pretty
And she is well acquainted with that forbidden city
Will she be met with grace or blatantly refused
She has heard of the self righteous who sit in those pews
The elderly still come with hair full of gray
Waiting patiently to meet there maker any a day
Weaker now but heaven is in their full view
Praying to see him siting here in these cold wooden pews
The congregation is a mix whites blacks and Asian
Mexican, educated, rich, poor and gender persuasion
Some come for comfort and mercy others for fire and brimstone
But I guarantee that each person suffers individually alone
Everyone wakes on Sunday with a conscious that’s bruised
But deep down inside they want to be healed by the pews
The devil and his demons love and serve to wreck havoc
They run interference in your mind with much traffic
To deter you and beat you with incredible abuse
But you can and you must endure like these old worn out pews

Do Not Follow Me

DO NOT FOLLOW ME

Me, myself and I
Get the likes you try
Addicted to self and my
Inflate yourself a lie.

Do not follow me
I don’t pretend to be
Nothing, a nobody
Human not a diety.

Social media making scars
You are not who you say you are
Trapped inside it, deep and far
Its your prison without the bars.

Connect with friends and family
But you’re vending and selling me
Posting obscenity
Pedantic and worldly.

I don’t use a special tool
You’re feeding on pop cultures pull
That school of thought is very cruel
Drink from it and play the fool.

Impurity, profanity, popularity, celebrity
Narcissistic, pessimistic, materialistic, atrocity.
Egotistic, antagonistic, unethical, skeptical
Idolatrous, preposterous, scandalous, unbiblical.

Do not follow me, you will see
He must become greater, trust me
I must become less, are the words the
Baptist John said most fervently.

Facebook and Instagram trying to reform
Your way of thinking and to deform
Your character and integrity as they inform
You that sexual immorality is the norm, do not conform.

It’s infecting your brain, strangles like a collar
Research for yourself, use Google scholar
Morally decaying, daily your mind
Trying to fill the void in your soul online.
Moral fabric slowly disappears
Continued neglect of wisdom all the years
It’s a fact, that is true, as I shout
Rest assured your sin will find you out.

I know what your say’n
Brian? Who do you think you are?
You’re some kind of bible banger now?
No, just trying to heal my scars.

I’m on the Internet and media as well
Trying to use it for good as I tell
And relate my life with its ups and downs
To point others to fresh water and where its found.

I’ve have always loved rap and poetry
Using my rhymes to spread the Gospel openly
Title of this poem is DO NOT FOLLOW ME
Be a fisher of men, Jesus said, “Come and follow me.”

You wont read this though
You’ll need Godly sorrow
Take it to heart, do not fight
HIS burden is easy, HIS yoke is light.

He said, “Take up your cross and follow me.”
That’s the cost of discipleship. See?
Deny yourself and removing the “me”.
Leads to life and with HIM eternally.

I am not perfect and I have sin
The difference is I have been for-giv-en.
Received the Spirit at my bap-t-is-m
Forgiveness is the Good news, you list-en-‘n.

Iron sharpens iron and
“I know the plans I have for you.”
These are some of the scriptures that help me
I hope they also strengthen you

Cpr

CPR

Not again call the code
Again in life saving mode
Grab the patient from the dark abode
This is a burden and heavy load

My heart is hard and callous
Working for years in the medicine palace
No criticizing you’ve your own malice
You’re not ready to drink from my chalice

Get on the chest, push hard and fast
How much longer will this last
Push the epi again they’ve not passed
Someone do compressions I’m gassed

You feel a pulse? NO! begin CPR
Eyelids open, pupils dilated, bizarre!
Cracked ribs, circulate the drugs intravascular
Hang another liter to the 18g catheter

This isn’t good the lips are blue
Running the code we aren’t through
Good bag mask ventilation through the tube
The bowel evacuates diarrhea, pew.

Still no pulse felt at all
Continue CPR in for a long haul
Did we update family give them a call
They’re in for a huge curve ball

We got a rhythm that is shockable
Charging 360J, stand clear, loud and audible
Hope this works anything is possible
Feel a pulse? YES! Phenomenal

Post-resuscitative effort in full effect
Titrate the Dopa and Levo for affect
Secure the ETT make it perfect
Debrief the H’s and T’s lets inspect

Order chest x-ray and head CT
Get an ABG, H&H and blood chemistry
Start hypothermia and begin the freeze
Lets clean up the patient provide dignity

Another patient kept out of the grave
The team members supported and gave
Staving off death and being brave
That’s what we do, for the patients we save

The Attitudes

From the heart these words are sown
Borrowed from the word and on loan
Follow along as you will read
In turn these rhymes your soul they’ll feed

In an attempt to pen like Cowper and Knox
And share these thoughts from a bag of rocks
And type them in line perfect and straight
About the Beatitudes for now here’s eight.

The first on the list as we seek and dive
Starting in Matthew and in chapter five
Regarding the nature of poor in spirit
Is about serving others if you can hear it

Secondly lives have been shattered and torn
Our sins hurt others and we neglect to mourn
We fail to extend a recompense
As we rationalize our odious offense

Next is the call and nature of the meek
But do not confuse it does not mean weak
It suggest to be gently, courteous and kind
But the world disregards and put it behind

Where are those who hunger and thirst
To bring about justice for those dispersed
In what ways can we help those in need
And help the poor and those who bleed

Mercy it appears to not even exist
Men wage war with a hard clenched fist
Grace is grounded in total forgiveness
Without it our souls die in darkest sickness

And out of the heart the mouth dost speak
But the pure in heart and those who seek
With the motives of the mind brought to light
Are those who shine like stars burning bright

Fortunate are the peacemakers in the land
That make amends and lower their hands
It is never ever wise for us to take delight
In those who would prefer to start a fight

Finally these attitudes come with a twist
Expect to be persecuted but don’t resist
Challenge the world and the system
This lyric came from the Kings true wisdom

Spur

SPUR

Fed up when I get up already rested up
I am sped up tear this tread up to shred up
I’m choking you still smoking
cigarettes, And vaping you joking
Laughing at me as I am being all I can be
Was not in the Army just getting warmed
Up systematically
Forget about physical appearances
‘tis a Lifestyle adherences
grab my vitamins on Clearances
training insurance it is
Release me from the cage
only a number Is my age
shoot this rhyme like a 12 gage
Flip the page
are you engaged?
I left T.C. to be all I can be
in the U.S.M.C.
The infantry
they taught me
how to train
How to shoot embrace the pain
Endure Hardship resilience in the brain for gain
With deep desire I am for hire
to light The flame under your seat on fire
Hear is what you need to do
your way is Not working and its through
No more staying up to late
or binge drinking
For crying sake and give thought to caloric intake
You are older now more mature
Past your forties now that’s for sure
Like it or not physical training is the cure
How can you make it to your eighties?
If you’re currently frail, weak and lazy?
Daily activity adaptive creativity
Infuse positivity no more negativity
Little by little resolve as you whittle
That frame to strength gyrate from brittle and
You will delay entering the hospital.
Discharge this instruction you begin the construction
Fortify strength through production
End of discussion

Conversion

CONVERSION

1
Everyday is a test, no rest, a contest, put up my best, I confess
Hardwired and tired, flawed with mud and mire, no liar but on fire
I will connect, will not fret but you can bet I will not let
Down, pound for pound, round after round, will win the crown, all smiles no frown
Wound tight but upright into the fight with all my might I will ignite as I write
These flames will burn in the rain I subtract the profane in his name my game
Is on, no more be gone, all along my poem is a song, turn right from wrong
And to the end I’ll be a friend and will defend and make amends will be no end
I have the cure that is for sure not insecure I will endure sip this tincture
Cut like a knife get rid of strife from your life this is real life

2
Bush said, “Read my lips” but take these tips big gulps no sips and do not resist
I am on a journey like a defense attorney save you from the gurney
Continue to strive as I come alive I will revive your spirit and drive you to change You must rearrange your thinking this is strange permit me to exchange
Two sides of a coin my belief I will conjoin and inspire you to join on this
Program like Abraham I will introduce you to the Lamb this is my jam
Maybe you’ve never heard about the word your vision is blurred that is absurd
Aint no religion but I am a Christian no more being a pigeon I am not a politician
You’ve got to be a disciple, you’ve got to read your bible, He is the final archetypal it
Is critical and vital leave your old sinful cycle

3
But just how do you do it, there aint nothing to it, you must grow through it nothing To pay or prove it, get up and move it
You need another faithful brother, or faithful sister or mother, and study with one Another as you both read and discover and uncover the message
You got to hear and lets be clear not about being sincere the word is to be feared
As you come to a faith, listen to what I sayeth this is how I will pray as you come to a Belief and start to see salvation and eternity
I wont relent until I see you repent you must hear and believe he was sent
You cannot be content with how your life has been he
Came to seek and save the lost he died for us at his cost

4
Because we all are lost, he wore thorns upon a cross for you and me
Don’t you see that we can be followers of him eventually?
You must be baptized; this message is supersized no time for false and lies
Born again of the water, this poem is getting hotter we the clay he is the potter
Let me begin and talk about our sin and when it is forgiven in
The waters of baptism I say again “Be born again” and its when we really start living
He said go to “all the nations” that was his proclamation and “make disciples”
His started the New Testament revival and “baptize them in the name”
This would be the new game “father, son and holy spirit” listen up can you hear it?
And don’t you know that as you go about to and fro he is with us to the

5
End of days this is what the bible says and will come back for us
In that we can trust it is a must please put up no more fuss
I have come to shed some light, turn that darkness from dark to bright
Read these words again as I write that they may give you strength and sight!
I am peeling back the layers; this is my utmost fervent prayer
If you have ears to listen please pay more close attention
And if you have eyes to see, open them up more fully
Like the original disciples in early Christianity we must listen
And obey most faithfully!
Most faithfully!

Move On

MOVE ON

Pick at it and open the wound
Poor on the salt with a big spoon
Can’t just let things go and be
Stirring the heart more angrily
The history we had is long since gone
I made mistakes and tried righting the wrongs
But this is the end of the line
Healing will occur over some time
Thankful for the time that we shared
Relationship was good I promise I swear
But I departed and left the fold
Out in the world to journey was bold
Wearing a uniform in line to conform
Growing up fast with others reformed
They yelled at me and gave me guns
When liberty came we shared some fun
Drove big trucks deployed on ships overseas
Round the globe twice in many countries
Very much training and more to train
Grew up quick and maturity was gained
Back to civilian life and started a new
Now what? Where do I go? What to do?
I know lets protect and serve that’s the ticket
Got rejected for colorblindness so I dismissed it
Earning a living at a health food store
Dating a girl, how can I provide for?
She was on track and smart and clever
I would marry her now and forever
She would graduate and become a teacher
But first we would vow in front of the preacher
Working as a manager at $14 per hour
Or a degree in allied health I would not cower
Accepted some help along the way
That which I am grateful for to this day
I’ve had my fair share of miscalculations
Made hasty decisions with no hesitation
Financial errors where to work and live
Undue stress on loved ones please forgive
Life is a teacher and I’ve learned up to now
Like a farmer keep your hand to the plow
Blows and punches will sure come your way
Take the highs with the lows its not all doomsday
I can tell you that family is at the center
Having my wife at my side with kids to mentor
Happiness is an illusion finding meaning is the key
If you have a “Why?”, enduring the “How?” is easy

Broken Disciple

Broken Disciple

My pilgrims journey started out strong
9 years and a decade later my story and song
Have turned into a heartless cycle
May I share about a broken disciple?

Took up my yoke and followed thee
‘Twas an easy burden initially
The path lo I’ll finish what I begin
A lifelong journey repenting of sin

A regenerate soul forgiven in water
But as life goes on the testing gets hotter
I have no privilege not even a title
But I travel as a broken disciple

Try to keep up with the church's demands
The passage shaves narrow with quickening sand
Who can keep up with the legality?
Of those who exercise a Pharisee mentality?

Some Christians appear to be cut out for this
While making the pilgrimage into a bus-in-ness
Adding upon rules like a golden idol
To discourage the faith of shattered disciples

Some have sought prestige and fame
looking down on others with disgust and shame
But some give an effort as unfertilized seed
And will never be amongst those who lead

We strive and tarry just for survival
Surrounded by the elite Professional Disciple
With those who strut proud as they stifle
And think high of themselves; to crush fragmented disciples

Some gossip that we have “fallen away”
But maybe like others we’ve gone astray
Never forgetting the message that we heard
In the presence of others it was inferred

Yes my good confession was just this
That Jesus is Lord and it still exists
What would the shepherd do just to keep?
Would he not go out and look for his sheep?

I observed with fainting discipline to follow and obey
But eventually I would learn the lesson of “betrayed”
Immature in my walk and debilitated I fall
Did not consider my exam would come within church walls

My vision obstructed to see it coming
Unfolding as it would and becoming
The worst kind of hurt and intense trial
But God had plans for this wounded gentile

The lesson I learned was to forgive
The hurts from other’s selfishly give’d
Those with motives unclean and impure
To inflict deep wounds on a believer for sure

I am not without my own to blame
I do not pretend to be righteously acclaimed
Unable to settle disputes in the matter
I grapple with anger and internal chatter

No resolution came about and a sorry not said
But was left to wonder to feel spiritually dead
To bear the brunt and recover with no love
And to search a little deeper for comfort above

An act of benevolence and charity on my part
Turned into a relationship destroyed at the heart
The most very good intentions I could not hide
Led to the increase and arrogance in another’s pride

Community in the Kingdom will be challenged
To overlook an offense is the continued balance
Do not come to the alter for your weekly revival
If you harbor bitterness with another disciple

But if the Gospel shall not as it is be followed
7 x 70 forgiveness practiced and swallowed
And no hint of the love as evidenced in the Bible
Can you honestly say that another is a disciple?

So if you have been so wounded and tempted
And done what you can to live worldly resisted
Remember the church is full of sickness and rival
And that you were baptized in Jesus name
As his broken disciple!

Honestly

I got many rivals
I’m always hiding in shadows
Searching for scripture to read
And meditate from my bible

I have a diagnosis
Your thinking a poor prognosis
But that is ok I know the one
Who can fix my psychosis

I don’t claim a victory
But I do have some liberty
With the faith in the son
Who overcame deaths misery

People make fun of me
Which feeds insecurity
I put up a front
Deep down inside I am lonely

I want your acceptance
But I get your rejections
So I turn to the Father
Who gives me protection

I work with a den of wolves
Their bellies are never full
Tearing me down with those
Insults its terrible

You say I am a loser
But I am not a drug user
I’m trying to win souls
But they keep acting like boozers

Many times I have faltered
Feel like quitting I’m altered
Pick myself up once again
On my knees at the altar

I got no excuses
Devils says I am useless
But I will still follow the Lord
Keep up with and choose it

Not trying to be right yo
Just enduring the fight though
Peaks and valleys part of
Life must go on to the end so

We all got a history
But the cross is the mystery
He took all the sin so
That we could go freely

So don’t listen to users
They’re wicked abusers
They follow their master and
His name is Accuser!

I’ll keep slaying these idols
And give back God his title
And keep reading the stories
He gave in the Bible

My emotions don’t own me
Depression and anxiety
I turn it over in prayer
And I live life joyfully

My emotions don’t own me
Fear and anger and sadness
I send up those prayers
And give him the madness

My emotions don’t own me..
My emotions don’t own me..

In the Ring

IN THE RING

Up against the ropes again
Bloody nose and eyes
Never cheated in my life
But still they spread those lies

Your shaken up and rattled
Where has your spirit gone
In the raging battle
Beat down but not for long

Resilience earned with the attacks
Of those who cut and run
Those who never had your back
They used you then were done

Your shaken up and rattled
But you keep that chin up
In the raging battle
You can never ever give up

Lessons learned in the game
Have proven useful now
Of course you had to humble out
You’ll get through some how

Your shaken up and rattled
Remember the trial at hand
In the raging battle
With new brothers in your band

Can’t do this task by yourself
Teamwork is the key
But you got to seek from higher
And get down on your knees

Your shaken up and rattled
You’re a warrior so prepare
In the raging battle
Training for cruel warfare

So get ready for action
Soon you will get the call
You’ll lead others with passion
And see your enemies fall.

Your shaken up and rattled
The past has built you strong
In the raging battle
Determined to right the wrongs

Book: Reflection on the Important Things
