Did They Find My Shoe

He came out of nowhere
He did not stop
He did not yield
He did not care
He must of gotten his drivers license from bat out of hell driving school
He drove like a fool
Ran right into me
Right as I was crossing the street
I guess pedestrians do not have the right of way
Not on that day
The day he took my freedom away
He did not even stop
Hit me and dragged me sixty feet
I could have died and bled to death in the street
The Most High worked a lot of miracles that day
I lived, survived and thrived
Broke so many bones but not my spirit
Lost some of my memory but not my zest for life or my will to live
One question that I still have to this day
That kind of bothers me in a way
When my shoes flew off they found one
Did they ever find the other one?

Notre Dame Is Burning

I watched Norte Dame cathedral burning
People outside in the streets crying, singing and praying
So sad that this icon was burning
Norte Dame, Norte Dame, Norte Dame
Please do not burn away
Please do not take away our place of worship
Norte Dame, Norte Dame, Norte Dame
You are a symbol of class, grace and culture
Culture for generations of true believers
Norte Dame, Norte Dame, Norte Dame
I hope that the three churches in Louisiana get the same
The same rush to help and to rebuild
The same out pouring of love
The same out pouring of justice
Note Dame, Norte Dame, Norte Dame
Norte Dame is burning and everyone cares
Three churches burned down in Louisiana and I don't see any people in the streets
No crying, No singing, no praying
Louisiana burns and nobody cares or notices
Norte Dame, Norte Dame, Norte Dame
Louisiana churches are burning just like New York was burning with Aids and hatred in the 1980s
The fire still rages but all the attention goes to Paris and Norte Dame
Norte Dame, Norte Dame, Norte Dame
As much as time changes most things stay the same
The only thing that changes is the date on the calendar
What a shame
Most High please stop the Louisiana church burnings and hatred of all kinds
Bless us with cures for these modern day plagues and stop the cathedral from being destroyed
Norte Dame, Norte Dame, Norte Dame

Tanzanite

Born in Africa
Lovely and rare
Few others can compare
To the depths of beauty and of light
To the colors of her moods
Sometimes blue like Billie Holiday
Sometimes the color purple like Celie or even queen Nefertiti
She constantly amazes and changes
Never the same
Like an African woman
In Africa or in the diaspora
No one can destroy her
She grows, survives and thrives
She is a jewel infinitely bright
Her name is tanzanite

Job-Just Over Broke

Get a job, Get a job, Get a job
Well, I have two and need a third
Went to college and got the same jobs that I could of gotten out of high school
Student loan shark wants his money
Rent man wants his money
Grocery man wants his money
If I pay student loan shark , my rent and food will suffer
So, try to dodge student loan shark awhile longer
$7.25 minimum wage.
This meat in the store is over $7.25 a pound
Guess Ramon noodles will be my dinner companion
Work, work, work
Working has kept me just over broke

The Walk

He wanted her for life
Slowly he walked to her
Her hair looked like clouds
Clouds of peace and joy
Joy to touch and hold
Hold on to for comfort
Comfort just like her smile
Smile white like a dream
Dream come true as woman
Woman as his lovely wife

I Can

I can see so many things
The outfit that you have on
The clothes on your bed
The pink headband on your head
I can see the smile on your face
But also the pain in your grace
Pain from not knowing your true beauty
You look at me everyday
I show you your beauty but you don't acknowledge it, you look away
I cannot tell you that your beautiful because I have no voice
So, I have no choice but to stay silent
A mirror can only show you the truth but never speak it out loud
You should be proud
I can only hope that one day
That you find a way
To speak love, joy and victory into your life
No more strife
Even a mirror can want you to be free
Once you free yourself from your pain
Can you do me a favor?
Can you free me from this frame?
Then we both can be free
