Lightkeeper

Spent too much time mourning dead dreams of mine,
Look you in the eye with my wistful stare.
Withdrawn for so long, you won't find me there,
A melancholy hell of my design.

Please hold my hand tight and tell me I'm fine.
Squeezing grim feelings eases my despair.
If God did this, who uttered the prayer?
What did I do wrong? Please, give me a sign!

Through my shroud of depression, you should know,
What being my lighthouse means when I'm lost.
Gloomy aggression seems all I can show.
Loneliness comes at a terrible cost.
I always feel like you want me to go,
Quietly hold me until I exhaust.

Path of Friends

Like a finger drawing on foggy glass,
You peak sneakily through clouds as you pass,
High above me as I lay on the grass.
I could fall into you – will your dark side want to?
You show me something new – I will howl at the view.
But before you sneak off out of my sight,
Rest with me here in the fading daylight.
Confess to me what you have seen at night.
The waves would wash you clean – More forgiving than mean
Closer then you have been – spin and be truly seen.
Like you, I try and weather pain with class.
I wonder where I would be without you.
In our darkest, I know we’ll be alright,
Although I know the space is vast between.

Blushing Blossoms

Your memory sprinkles in my mind,
In the dusting of the springtime.
It's hard not to smile I find,
When I am lost in thoughts sublime.

The blushing blossoms rustle thoughts
Of touching, falling, getting lost
Until the sky is silver dots.
We talk until we both exhaust.

I wish I could go back each spring,
And recall the sweet smell of your
Hair in my face, makes my heart sing.
It's always been you I adore.

Thank you for not going away,
Sweet, scented thoughts of yesterday.

Foolish Fisherman

Wading water, my foot falters
This freezing feeling is seeping, stealing
Healthy heat from foolish feet
Now sliding, slipping and trip, tipping
Swimming swift so legs lift
Scared stiff in the water wishing
That fish found this folly fitting.

Life Sentence

Holding my head in my hands for two years.
Fooled me so often, don’t know him in mirrors.
He’s crude and forgotten and fattened with fear.
Surely, I’m better than what I see here.

Is there a place where disgrace is best faced?
Chased family and friends in case they embrace
Me, erasing escaping in the first place just tames.

See what sins begin spilling willingly,
When filling with the chilling possibility,
that I’m admitting living miserably.
Killing more fitting than forgiving me.

My Spirit Tree

In the gloom, I awoke as an oak tree.
So relieving to have been left alone.
Moonlight purifies broken canopies,
Highlighting every feeling that I’ve grown.

It saves time being good without trying,
And they rely on me, crying they seek,
My deep-rooted bones, safely supplying,
Boughs they can rely on when they feel weak.

I know where I begin and end out here.
Helps me find balance when strong winds arrive.
The older I get, seems less I hold dear,
Mind me for missing in all of your lives.

If you find it hard to sleep sound tonight,
Pretend that it’s me out in the moonlight.

Needing To Forgive Myself

There’s an easy fix I threaten
Every morning and it’s getting
Boring, guess I let it set in

Adorned and splayed for all to see
My life, displaced because of me
Ashamed of who I’ve come to be

I need to try more than ever
In my mind, for something lesser
Seen it in her eyes forever.

I just need to find the bottom
Stand up straight, above the water
Breathe until it’s all forgotten.
