Augie Latorre Poem
(For steph) I believe in love...
I believe in love
I believe in sitting motionless, staring up at the wide expanse of Stars in the eternal glow of the crescent moon,
A rose pettle succumbing to gravity as it drifts away from its imperfect bloom.
I believe in footprints cast in the morning dew
I believe in the first shafts of light of the imposing dawn;
The first raindrops of an impending storm, falling innocently from
charcoal skies above.
I believe in love.
I believe in holding hands
as blue ocean waves crash on the pink shores and the power of the tides shift the rippled sands.
I believe in love.
I believe in the earth shattering power of a KISS
I believe in soul wrenching longing ,brought on by distance ,
and your image haunting me in my dreams.
I curse myself for the realization of what Ive missed.
I believe in that lone tear streaking down your fragile face.
I believe in the sound of your name resonating in my heart,
making it pound, stop and start ,
swell and race.
I believe that love can vault the chasms of Time.
I believe I will hear your sweet voice echoing , as the soft late summer breezes caress the wind chimes.
I believe in your gentle touch ;
and it’s power to send me to the center of the sun.
I believe love will get us through
I believe......... in you.....

Augie Latorre Poem
Avalanche
The thunderous force of love, unsuspecting and sudden,
Ripped through me with the force of an avalanche.
Sending me reeling and buried in its icy aftermath.
Pinned to the ground with labored breath,
The weight of the world pressing on me in both scope and breadth.
I am lost under the blinding white weight of this emotional morass.
A small part of me Hoping that reason will soon come to pass
But I close my eyes and I see your face
And a smile warms me and grows as the chill fades without a trace.
I am transported back in time; The familiar scent, familiar touch, and familiar taste.
And love explodes within and lays the ice to waste.
In the soft dim evening shades of that quiet street,I collapsed under the unexpected force of our emotional embrace.
The three words came rushing out.
I had not planned it then but I saw your cascading black curls framing your beautiful face.
Did you feel it too? Years of insecurity gave me doubt.
I couldn’t be sure. How could it be now in this time and in this place?
How could hours slip by so fast?
Why couldn’t I make it last?
What treachery the fates bestow;
A victim of time and love lost and senseless emotional baggage in tow.
And here I lay cold and alone, buried in emotion,
Powerless under the weight.
My mind trained on a single thought,
a simple silhouette on a dim street , a decades old familiar laugh,
a sweet voice from a distant past, an unrequited love that never left,
a soul mate for the ages that was always known , forever there but never placed, the greatest love a man can have
But here I lay ,love bereft.

Augie Latorre Poem
I’m not one to boast
But this morning I was able to look up from the abyss
My mind clear and sharp
The wave subsided
The overwhelming rush of love and regret abated.
And for the first time in weeks
I didn’t burn the toast.
Looking ahead toward dinner
I may take some root vegetables,
Parsley , rosemary and olive oil
Preheat the oven to 400
Cut out my tortured heart, add it to the root vegetables
And let them roast.

Augie Latorre Poem
Cobblestone heart
She treads lightly on my cobblestone heart;
As scarlet ,yellow and crimson flowers drip;
from trellises on ancient stone walls,
And beams of sunlight shine on towers of old,
And clouds cast shadows on tables with wine, With glasses filled half way as thirsty patrons savor each sip.
Her sundress waves in the gentle breeze,
As she clutches her basket of vegetables and sundries.
Her raven locks are pulled back,
as she inspects her bounty from the marketplace,
She feels the warmth of the Mediterranean sun and with a contented smile she looks toward it to warm her face.
I slowly approach and take her hand
And place a gentle kiss upon her lips.
She offers the basket for me to inspect,
But I’m mesmerized by her visage and almost let it slip.
We smile in relief as i secure the grip
I place the basket down on my cobblestone heart;
and take her in my arms in a loving embrace.
Intoxicated by her love, by her beauty, by her grace,
We stand entwined, enchanted by what we found in this magical place.
The smell of baking bread and fresh cut herbs fill the bustling square ,
We float in silence , hand in hand above my cobblestone heart .
We ascend the stairs and open the door;
And Display todays prizes from our morning chore.
I look into her eyes and catch my breath ,
as my heart beats out of my rising chest,
A thousand years have come and gone
And I tell her I’ve loved her from the start!

Augie Latorre Poem
The tanned brown leather is stretched impossibly taut atop the battle drums.
A thousand sinewed warriors beat their war cries as one.
The thunderous pounding echoes across the African plain
That’s my heart when I hear your name.
An expanse of wildflowers as far as the eye can see,
Hues of purple, red ,orange and green.
Silver Waters cascade into pools of aquamarine.
I am lost , spellbound in that ethereal place,
Every time I see your face.
The winds gather and the gales blow hard,
The lightening strikes illuminate the dark,
The Sea has no mercy as the maelstrom rips,
Tossed about, the seas flood the ships,
That’s how I feel when I kiss your lips.

Augie Latorre Poem
You’re like a red silken scarf caught in the deep thorny brambles of my mind.
One that I let slip through my fingers And set Adrift for years on zephyrs of quantum time.
And miraculously you lightly floated back with flashes of crimson and black
As it got embroiled, torn and flailing ,
Forever more caught in this emotional bind.
Cold forces tear at the fabric as you wave in winds of uncertainty,
But I will never let you go.
You’re trapped in the prism of my mind
Your light bending and refracting, illuminating my darkness and filling my heart with grace.
I understand that the gales will always blow and all I have is memory so cruel so kind,
And I will never let you go
I love you so
And I will cling to you
Like the silken scarf caught in the brambles of my mind.
