Stream-ing in the Time of Covid-19
we are in mandated private isolation
my preoccupied muse and I
even though I plead and threaten her
not a single poem will she try
she is silent and stubborn, my arrogant muse
refusing to allow my dormant poetry to bloom
I walk 100 meters each day begging as I pace
back and forth from my bed to the living room
there is no alternative in our seclusion but to stream
so many selections from which to choose
perhaps a courtroom drama or romantic comedy
I long ago gave up on understanding the news
streaming has become my chosen therapy
endless broadcasts distract me from my fears
Outlander, NCIS, Doc Martin, Star Trek Picard
I could continue streaming for years
wait…. words are whispering in my brain
my muse is awakening as if from a dream
she is ready to divulge her masterpiece
and she is using the prompt word…stream

Clouds Hanging Over Me
dark clouds, ominous
feelings of dread swamping
me with foreboding
unable to get my breath
anxiety leading to yet another
panic attack to
disarm me
detach me from myself
alone and afraid I am
losing my mind
certain it has happened in
the past
confident no one notices
that there are clouds of
madness hanging over me
