Julie Onoh Poem
I drink in her fresh powdery scent
Scent peculiar only to a baby
Baby cuddles up to me with trust
Trust in eyes that stare back adoringly
Adoringly I smile back with joy
Joy almost bursting seams of my heart
Heart now nudged by fingers of fear
Fear of twisted devils and degenerates
Degenerates who prey on innocence
Innocence in my angel, I'll protect
Protect with hawk eyes against suspects
Suspects to peck at like a Mother Hen
Hen like pledge I solemnly make
Make no ill come close or wrongly trust
Trust not even hubby, none at all
All afflictions that assailed mom will never
Never arise a secone time

Julie Onoh Poem
"The LORD giveth and HE taketh," they say
No one said that your space will be left to decay
None can fill it
Some are too short or too small
Very docile or just too tall
They did not say that you would hover
around the stain of your lipstick on my drawer
It's earned its place
Like a badge of honor
on a dead hero's dirt stained door
They did not say that you would remain
To lace our sweet memories with plain pain
I stare at your photo
Swimming in moments of your quirky smile
and hilarious mishmash of colors called "style"
You may not be part of the living
But you are thriving, sometimes watching
Behind that invisible veil
Of course, they will not say that
